Sean,
Good to know. I'll file that away.
I have two different Mighty Mite engines which I will show.. One with brass engine frame, brass tender frame and the other with cast frames.
This is why I have trouble with pre war / post war for certain items. Perhaps there is someone who has knowledge of this beside what certain catalogs state, especially citing years for whatever engine, what material when and how many different runs. I'm talking about the 2-6-0 Mogul, 4-4-0 Belle of the 80's. 0-4-0 Little B (Busy Bee to me), 0-4-0 Mighty Mite and the 0-4-0 Lil Goat. I'd sure like to have a better idea.

Hi Jim,Not sure if you were aware, but there was a earlier version of an all brass chassis. I fo not believe it came with a boiler, cab or tender. It is the Mogul chassis however. I have one with what appears to be a boiler and cab someone made. The 1940 atalog shows this chassis as well.Sean

HH, All,Here are pictures of another early vintage Mantua engine. This is the cast & brass 2-6-0 Mogul kit that was made in 1940 till ?. I assume it's pre war since we didn't enter the war till 1941 and the kit had brass. The tender on this is not original but a later Mantua plastic tender with the Mantua trucks. This engine, like many, came to me in need of some repairs but not in bad shape. It already had some extra detail added to the boiler which I left alone. I painted and decaled the engine and tender, which I added a little detail to, but stopped when it still needed the final dull coat to hide the decal edges and never got back to it. This engine painted (with a spray can) 30-35 years ago.Jim H
