I don't like speaking to my computer. Just not ham radio if no
antenna is there. I used a node. To those w/o a mic, here is what I
did when I first tryed echolink on the computer-
I just took a electret element from a answering machine that got
zapped by lightning, took a bent piece of 1/2" copper pipe about 1',
and made a nice wood base for it with a router. I attached the pipe
to the base, and then ran a wire from my free RS Cue Cat (remember
those :) ) up the pipe, and soldered it to the element. I then put
some electric tape around the outside of the element, so it was a snug
fit. I put a plug on the end, and it worked like a charm. I may be
able to find pieces of it, but I took parts off it a while ago. But,
worked good for free. But, it did not look too good.

Thank you all for checking into the first YAEN. The trivia game tonight was won by KC0SAM in finals against KG4OVD. Next week.. I'm not sure what the middle part will be next week. Not trivia though. Invite your friends, 3rd party ops, etc
yeah.. I was going to link up through my club's IRLP repeater tonight
but then I realized.. it doesn't have echolink anymore! I would
connect on the computer, but I'll have to invest in a mic sometime.

If you're sending this message over the internet, can't you download
echolink and connect from the computer?

Turns out it was an error on my part. Sorry. But, still, if you
heard the ID'er for it, it is going down May 1, 05. I am not happy
with that, since there are no other echolink nodes.

The net was awsome! I figured out that on my dad's rig, the WIRES was
turned on and it was sending a dtmf tone in front of everything else.
I got out the manual and cleared that up. But, that was awsome! You
got my 12 yr old brother to check in! Do you know what kind of
accomplishment that is??!?!?! He saw me sitting in the truck, so he
came out and listened, he loved that trivia, and with some slight
persueding, he checked in. He had a blast. He now knows why I love
nets so much. But, I can't beleive you got him to check in! He got
his ticket a while ago, but never really gets on the air. He checked
into a net a few times last summer, but that was to win an antenna if
he checked in 4 times and was the newest licensed. But, this was on
his own will (almost). ;) I am so happy. Thank you all!
The local node in my area has been conveniently taken down, so won't
be able to join the net unless I can find another repeater or node
within about 30 Mi. of my QTH. Just using an FT-8800r with a small
NMO mount on the toolbox of my dad's truck.
If your repeater is open for use, just dial the node number 6154. If
it has an access code to get on echolink, contact the link owner for
the code. Once you have dialed the code , then dial 6154.

Well the node number is 6154. If you know the numbers before that, you
should be able to connect.

I will use the nodes with a rig, though. I think I will attempt to check in
tonight. If you can tell me exactly how (don't remember) to connect to the
conference server through a node, that would be great.

Sense you are typing this message I asume you have a computer. Why not
connect via a computer with echolink?? No need for a radio.

Hello everyone,
I hope to see you all on the net tomorrow. I spoke with WB3GXW, the
owner of the WASH_DC conference server, today and everything is set.
Bring a friend, and I will have some good stuff for the middle part of
the net.
73 and hope to see you there
Michael K3LNT, net control
I have the net script in the files section that the net control will read,
but I don't think that's what you mean. You may just want to say something
like KG4OVD connecting to node 6154 for the Young Amateur Echolink Net, all
are welcome to check in.

Is there a specific preamble that you would like me to read before
connecting the repeater to the echolink node? I've gotten permission to
connect one of the area repeaters, so hopefully I can spark some
interest in the net.

It is so awesome! I love it! I gotta pull out the free copy of
Photoshop that came with my dad's laptop and make something cool for
the WWYN! You have inspired me.
Very good..

The net is geared toward younger hams, like 21 and younger or so. However,
we welcome people of all ages to check in. Friday's net will feature a
trivia game..type.. thing. It should be fun. Hope to see everyone

Wish I could join in on the net but for the moment I'll just have to
offer my virtual support... I'm teaching a class on the night that the
net meets.
One thing I would suggest is to give a definition of the net - "Young
Amateur" is good but are you defining age ranges or simply mean "Young
at Heart" hams? Also, what kinds of programs or information do you
plan to cover during the net?
I wish you all the best luck with the net! Post logs here and numbers
