A group of young Muslims in the Philippines envisioned a network of young Muslim professionals that promote volunteerism, use their own resources, talents, education & training, and work collectively or even individually to help other Muslims in unfortunate circumstances.
In August 2000, they formally launched the Young Moro Professionals (YMP) in a group-sponsored dinner-for-a-cause.
The proceeds of the dinner went to help the victims of Estrada Administration’s All-Out War Policy in Mindanao at that time. In November 2000 YMP launched its website: the website (http://www.bangsamoro.com) which became the medium by which the YMP members communicate with each other, and the world.
Politics was consciously never made an issue. However, the YMPN took part in EDSA 2, ushering a new hope in the form of a renewed faith in a new administration. Year 2001 saw a more placid YMPN. By year 2002, YMPN renewed its commitment:
* Re-launched Bangsamoro.com as an alternative media.
* Focus on the promotion of educational scholarship and employment opportunities among others.
In May 2003, the Young Moro Professionals Network (YMPN) was incorporated and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
YMPN members are active participants in various conferences and forum on peace, education, conflict studies, and development.
