Hello Charles,
I have some information about your cousin
Robert L. Wasson. He was copilot on the
Joseph P. Willis crew, 838th Bomb Squadron,
and went missing in action on 29 May 1944
after B-24H 42-52577 was hit by flak and
exploded over the Baltic Sea. Navigator Edgar
A. Grabhorn was the only survivor on the crew
that day. Grabhorn's account of the shoot-
down is in "The History of the 487th Bomb
Group" by Ivo de Jong. I have Mr. Grabhorn's
contact information, and spoke to him in
May 2009. Please write to me at:
pwebber@...
I will send you what I have.
Regards,

Robert L. Wasson. I have been researching this flight going on a year or so but
have had little progress lately. As luck would have it, thankfully the sole
survivor (Crabhorn) is living in NH but I have yet to manage to contact him. If
you would like to coordinate on this research, I think it would be a great
project. Contact me at cdjoesten@... and we will go from there. Also, I am
headed to UK for vacation in August and plan to visit Canbridge and Lavenham.

the 487th site. It would be a nice memorial and he'd be in wonderful, proud
company. I recently ordered my Dad and Mom's headstone marker and over my Dad's
name I am having a B-17G with the "P" for the 839th Squadron engraved. Dad
arrived in England on 4 July 1944.

unfortunately there was no available information on my Dad's pilot, Raymond
Dorman. However, a few weeks ago when I started "googling" Ray's name, I finally
found a match on Classmates.com. Raymond was listed as having been a member of
the 839th Bomb Squadron, 487th Bomb Group and stationed at Lavenham, England,
during WWII. Although I still have not received a reply from the author of the
listing, I am and will remain hopeful.

Those of us left behind by our Army Air Force heroes have a printed keepsake of
the lives lived and lost by the gallant members of the Mighty 8th, 487th
BombGroup.
