Dear friends,
Many of you are very concerned about the development of the libel case caused by the article in the Ottawa Citizen and the book 'Nest of Spies' in which Canada ALPHA, BC ALPHA & Toronto ALPHA, and the key volunteers in the organizations were defamed. Since credibility is the most important value of our organizations, we felt we had no option but to defend our names and integrity with the most vigor we could mobilize. With all the evidence and facts gathered and presented to the lawyers of the defendants, we are pleased to inform you that 2 parties out of the three have requested and reached out-of-court settlements satisfactory to us, including extraction of the offending articles, full apology, and financial compensation of a sum we were requested (by Canwest ) to keep confidential.
The apology appeared in Ottawa Citizen on Page A2 on November 14, and in the websites of Canwest which carried the offending article for 2 weeks and 3 months respectively. Please see the attached and here are the links:

Harper Collins' lawyer informed our lawyer a few days ago that the book Nest of Spies is being withdrawn from sale and the impugned pages removed and that HarperCollins undertakes not to re-publish the impugned passage from Nest of Spies prior to the trial. They have expressed intention of pursuing a settlement with us as well.
I shall keep all of you informed of further development in the case. Once again, thank you for your support and concern.
