75 MM motors are significantly less expensive than the 98mm motors.

Take a look at Ellis Mountian Rocket works page

http://members.aol.com/RLT2K/reloads.html

They look similar in performance to the Aerotech 75mm but Aerotech has yet
to establish a price. I would imagine the price from AT being similar.
All things being equal I think I will fly the AT propellant. I like the
way AT assembles screws closed as opposed to snap rings.

Maybe after you and I (Mark too if he can keep up....;-)

Get Level 3 then we can have a club project and build a large rocket
together. Personally I am thinking of a scale up of the R2-D2 Kit!!!
But will entertain other ideas... like a really big sputnik, or perhaps
just a really big rocket!

Mat, Did you see the 2-Jerks. As you could see, there was some real
strange dudes there.

I am going to use the Bull Dog for Level 2 only. I think level 2 goes up
tp "K". That's a big motor. I don't think I can afford Level 3.
If I do, maybe it will be a full scale AMRAAM. 7.5"-Dia X 12' long.

Do you know how much the 75mm cases will be ?

I ordered some extra length of 6" tube so I can stretch the DOG a bit and
build an electronics bay. I would like to use my altimerter in it. I am
going to give the paint job some serious thought cause I want to come up
with something neat. I may glass it but that does add weight. I allways
use glass cloth and glass the fins into the body anyway.
This way the fins can bend quite a bit without cracking in the joint.

At the last minute of ordering the DOG, I almost changed it to the
Pteradactyl. I didn't see any Dogs flying at the launch so I went ahead
and went with that.

I really liked the launch and was glad you were there. I can't wait for
the next one.
The Hobby Shop will be gone at the end of next month and I'm not sure how
much money I will have left after making payments on what I owe there.
Today is my divorce hearing and I should know what I will have to pay in
child support and anything else. I really pondered over ordering the Dog
because I have other things which needed the money more. I just sold three
models on EBAY for $300.00 so I used that to buy it. I did it now while I
had the money.

Once I get the hobby shop payed for, I will be able to build a ship to the
moon if I want.

Dustin kept saying that he wished he had brought some of his rockets but I
didn't know that they would be launching so many little ones.
I told Mark that one neat thing about the launch was that they treated the
launch of the little ones with the same respect as the big ones.

Ole well, I guess I don't have anything to do. I call this mumbling.
I wasn't sure that I would get to go but thanks to Mark and his car I did.

When I get on my feet I would like to get a van so we can haul rockets and
several of use go together.

OK, enough mumbling.......See you later.........Don

Why don't you get PML to give you a 75 or 98MM mount for the Bull Pup.
The you could use it for Level 3 too.

Does anyone else check Rocketry Online?  www.rocketryonline.com  Timeless Hobbies has a pre-release deal for the Estes Saturn V to be released in December at only $49.99.
Just thought someone might be interested.

Congatulations to Mark and Don for achieving a new level.  I hope they don't forget us little(r) people.

However, in my case, to paraphrase a certain President:  (it's not only the size), It's the ECONOMY,stu...!!!  I can't afford those big dogs.

A few of us stalwarts went to Bob's on a really hot, sunny day and attempted to scare some cows, horses, and, not to forget, diners.  The day was excellent, with one or two exceptions (details later).  Mark Mason, Father Frank Milanese, and your humble reporter fogged the farmland with balck powder for about 5 hours on Saturday.  Father Frank brought his sons, Christopher and Matthew, and I had Linda and my daughter, Alyssa.  The children did great work as retrieval crew and launchers ( so Father Frank and I could take some photos).  We had quite a number of spectators because there was some sort of walking event that day, there were numerous cars going to the shelter, and just plain curious people from Bob's.

The best part of everything is that there was not one single lawndart!!  On the downside, my rebuilt V-2 ejected the RMS case somewhere over the north forty.  I managed to check about 10 acres before I had to go home.  Maybe next time.  Father Frank exceeded the speed of whatever adhesive he was using to hold the motor in his SR-71.  His Bullpup also suffered blackpowder decomposition around the tailcone.  Both models are still flyable/ repairable.  My own rockets suffered mostly landing damage.  A little CA and we're back in the air again.  Mark seemed to be holding back.  SMURF anticipation, maybe?  There at Bob's for about four hours and only one launch.  His Shadow should be back in the air after shredding a fin on ejection.

There was a lone RC'er who thought he had things to himself.  Somehow, after Father Frank's Sidewinder lifted off, he stayed over his runway.

I know none of this can compete with SMURF (perhaps Don outdid the NS total just with one rocket), however, a good time was had despite our limited horsepower.  Some Details:

31 flights    Smallest motor - 1/2A3-4T (Don says "Do they still make them that small?")

Biggest motor - F25-4W  (Don says "Do they still make them that small?")

Most Flown motor - D12-5 (D12's most flown overall)  (Don says "Do they still make them that small?")

Grand Total - 570 NS (Don says "Do they still make them that small?")

    Until next time:

    Mike

OK then.....Funny you should ask.........I will......

As you saw in the other e-mail that I sent....Mark and I are now Level 1.
We took the Level 2 test and passed.

Guess what this means ? It means I have been inspired and now truely see
the light. I mean the fire. It means regaurdless of what you have been
told all your life, It is in the size. Bigger is better and more fun to
play with.

It means that there is a big mean dog in my life and the only thing it eats
is money.
Stranded in the streets of the Bronx, NY with a flat tire and at 3:28 AM
cannot compare to the nervous excitment of watching your high power rocket
set on pad 26. You pace in the hot sun waiting for the launcher to call up
your pad. Your sweat runs down your face and in your eyes as you try to
retrace all the steps you did to get it prepped. You try to think as fast
as you can before they call your name.

Did I put the parachte in ?
Did I put the O-rings in the motor correct ?
Did I pack the chute to tight ?
Did I get the motor friction fit good enough. I told the guy at the
check-in table I did......But did I ?
Is the nose cone on to tight ?
Is it to loose and will come off at burn-out ?
Is it leaning on the pad to much ?
Will it staighten up and go straight up ?

OK, I'm sure it's ready..........

I can't stand it any more. Launch the darn thing. Give me my Nitro
tablets.

Oh No........Stop.....Don't Launch......I forgot to arm the
timer.....Stop.....Hold on pad
26...........................................

Although I want to see it go, It's almost to easy to Yell, STOP..I CHANGED
MY MIND...I WANT IT BACK..TAKE IT OFF THE PAD...

First I must say, as you can see I am at work with nothing on my mind but
SPEED, POWER, NOISE.........................................

Firts it was the C's, Then the D's, Then the G's, Now it's H's &
I's.....Gee, they seem so small.......I want K's and M's...............

Give me mooooooooore POWER SCOTTY....

OK, Now back to the dog....
I am going to put in an order with PML on Tuesday. I got to have a BULL
DOG. The heck with the PUPS......
I may order a length of Tube to stretch it a bit.......You know......Weenie
Dog.
If any body wwants something from PML, please let me know.
I have to meet a $250.00 Min.
This situation warrants an emergency so I have to put the order
in................WOW, BULL DOG (STRETCHED)

Sure will...

It may not be until the last weekend in September. Any word on
the availability of the Bob Evans Farm Field or size of the new field near
Leon?

The field we use can handle up to an altitude of about 2000 feet..
maybe a less. Depends on the way the wind is blowing.

I take it from your message that you have a field at least big enough
for E's. Let me know a couple of days in advance next time. If you're in

On Saturday me, my wife, Andy and several members from the local
college held a small launch.
My main focus of the launch was the testing of the altimeter
deployment system by Adept Electronics. It worked! Drogue chute was
deployed at apogee while the main came out at about 300 feet.
Andy sucessfully launched his Saturn V on a cluster of 3 C
engines. Hopefully he will fly it again at the next launch. R2-D2 was
fixed after a recent crash so that Andy now owns R2-D12! It flew well.
Chad, a Hocking College student, flew a new Estes rocket. At
apogee the rocket released two gliders that circled and followed the
booster back to earth. Another fine fun flying model.
A few fatalities were recorded. My Estes Shadow's second flight
ended with a loud smack and crunch as the delay on an AT e15-7 proved a
little two long. Lisa's Mean Machine also had a similar problem but the
culprit was a delay that did not fire...D12-5.. Becareful if you are
using that engine.... that is the first one that had definate probles but
Andy and I suspect that poor delays contributed to the crash of his Saturn
1B at the last Bob Evans Launch and another crash of Lisa's Mean
Machine...

Hope you all had a good weekend..As this is Sunday morning and the sun is
brightly shining....perhaps I will return to the field...sending the
rockets climbing skyward..drifting downward...

Matthew

Hey all. I was thinking about gathering more members for the club
and was wondering if you think it a good idea to submit our launch
schedule to the NAR to post on their web page and also include in
Sprocketry. Several clubs also list their meeting dates/times.

So it might be possible for you and I to meet down at BE farms to launch?

Sounds like the beginning of a good plan to me.

Will you be attending the August meeting or does that fall into vacation
time as well?

Don't Worry too much, Don and Mark are sometimes slow about answering their
email.
I wouldn't mind every 2 weeks, but 1 a month fits my expenses better.
Anyway, we're on vacation mid-August, so that's out. The best I could do
would be to throw some stuff in the car and head out. I find I like to have
you other guys there, so going by myself is not fun.

I check my mail every day, so let me know possible schedules. Unlike
the guys in Huntington, I have family in Gallipolis, so it's not a big trip
to me.

well it looks like it is just you and me Mike.

How are the rockets doing?

I have been working on getting my altimeter setup in one of mine. I am
using an older one cause I figure it will work or it will fall from 2000
feet into the earth....

What do you think about having launches every 2 weeks? I know that I
would like to do that.(As long as the money holds out!!)

Matthew
