If you still need someone, I'd be glad to help you. I don't know any
German, though, just English.

Hello everyone!

I am in the process of writing my first fanfic, and while I'm
enjoying it immensely, I would love to get some constructive
criticism:

1.) I'm not a professional writer, and only have vague memories of
high school English, so a look at my phrasing, grammar and general
use of language would be good.

2.) I think I have the characterization right, but a second look is
always good.

3.) And finally, is it a good story?? Do you think someone would
actually want to read it? Do I need to shorten chapters, include
more details, remove passages?

To give more details of the story itself, it is quite long. I can
easily see this becoming more of a novella, since I'm using an
original character. It will be slashy, NC-17 stuff in the future,
but not yet. Three chapters in, everyone are still in their canon
relationships, or unpaired. The primary pairing will be John
Sheppard with my original, male character, with the possibilities of
other relationships/tangles.

Currently, this looks to be a long-term project, though I do have a
plot outlined and a definate ending planned. I'm producing roughly
one chapter every three to four days. I use Microsoft Word.

My ultimate goal would be to post this story on Wraithbait, but I'd
love for someone to take a peek at it first. If anyone would like to
volunteer, feel free to respond here, or e-mail me directly.

Thanks for your time!

I am in desperate need of a beta who can (yell/scream/tantrum/threaten)
help me finish two WIPs that are McKay/Sheppard centered. One is a
humor/romance set in the first season that needs a a handful more
chapters before it's finished. The other is an angst story (set after
Trinity) that is in need of one, possibly two more chapters to wrap it
up. My muse has completely and utterly deserted me and I'd really love
to wrap these two WIPs up and get them off my plate.

Any takers?

Sorry for the late reply!  I've been juggling school, an toddler, and packing for a move lately.  Time is disappearing far too fast for me!

I would love to have a beta reader :)  I've been writing and re-writing so much of it, trying to achieve a sense of peace with this story, and I don't think I will until I've heard someone else's opinion.

What formats work better for you?  I use Microsoft Office 2007, but I can downsave to 2003 if need be.

Thank you so much!

I probably should mention that I'm taking this story slightly AU.  While I am following the episodes, I hate the character of Dr. Jennifer Keller with a passion, so I'm making her a very minor character where I can.  My original character is actually taking the position of Chief Medical Officer within Atlantis.

That's okay! I know what it's like to be busy, I'm in a few advanced classes this year, so I can be quite busy occasionally too.

I don't mind reading an AU story at all (in fact I'm used to people who dislike Dr. Keller, my friend is by no means fond of her) so that's no problem for me.

I don't think our computer has Microsoft 2007, but we may still be able to open it. Send it in whatever format you want, and if it doesn't work, we can try the other.

Also, this weekend I will be attending a Stargate convention in NJ so I'll have to start reading Monday if you send it.

My name's Juliana, by the way. Nice to meet you, and I look forward to reading your story!

Hi,

After not writting for a long time I started with a new story. I'm
not a native speaker of English and this will be the second story I
write in this language. Though I have some knowledge on how to write
in English, it may not be good... but I'm sure you'll have no
problems understanding anything.

It's a GEN story. For now, only the prologue is ready, but I'm
almost finishing the first chapter. It starts with the SG 1, but it
will soon be a crossover between SG and SGA. Its an AU.

I need grammatical and spelling correction and of course any other
commentaries will be appreciated. I must warn you, I've only seen
two episodes of the first season and a few of the last of Stargate
SG 1, so the characters may be off character. If anyone knows where
I can watch the serie?

Well, I'm getting off topic now. To sum up, GEN story, crossover
eventually), native Spanish speaker, grammatical and spelling
correction... Did I forget anything? If so please ask.

Let me know if you are interested... I promise not to disapear again
(like I did with my first story. It's just that my muse abandoned
that story to start this one instead)

Kisses,

Magdalena

I would be willing to take a look at it. I'm kinda crazy about characterization, though, just a warning. lol If it's *consistent* then that's ok. I'll live with it.

Now who's rambling? Anyway, far as the episodes, I would try either iTunes if you can afford it (1.99each, I think, US) or I have had luck finding them on usenet. You would have to pay for an account to download, but then you could get so much more besides that (I get music, movies, etc) for around $10 a month.

Some people might have other ideas. I know there were some people in the Buffy fandom who were doing sales of VCR tapes (I got season 2 that way) but that's *so* last century. :)

You can get all of the episodes from www.mininova.com just type in the episode code

Stargate Atlantis S01E01 = Rising Pt.1 etc. and its all free just download the free torrent Azureus, uTorrent or Bitcomet and then open the torrent file. If you have a good connection it should download fairly quickly also stick to trusted sources or you could get fake files from porn uploaders. [eztv] are the most reliable uploaders out there.

You normally send your story offlist, directly to the person who has
offered to beta for you, rather than to the list directly.

I was wondering if someone would mind doing a quick beta on a 500 work ficlet.  This is for the Last Fiction Writer Standing challenge on LJ, so the rules are pretty restrictive.  I need someone to read for content more than spelling, punctuation and such.  Its G and Gen, no offensive material whatsoever.

Thanks,

I was wondering if someone would mind doing a quick beta on a 500 work ficlet.  This is for the Last Fiction Writer Standing challenge on LJ, so the rules are pretty restrictive.  I need someone to read for content more than spelling, punctuation and such.  Its G and Gen, no offensive material whatsoever.

Thanks,

I can read through it if you like.  I'm working today, but then my afternoon is clear.

To sum up, GEN story, crossover
eventually), native Spanish speaker, grammatical and spelling
correction.. . Did I forget anything? If so please ask.

Let me know if you are interested.. . I promise not to disapear again
(like I did with my first story. It's just that my muse abandoned
that story to start this one instead)

Kisses,

Magdalena

Hey I've just begun writing my own fic after becoming addicted to sga
fiction. Ideally I need a beta not just for grammar and spelling but to
offer advice also. Its Sheppard/Lorne slash and there is adult
material so please no one who is not old enough.

Hey there. I've never posted in this fandom before, and I need a beta
to check over my story. First off, no kiddies. It's definitely M
and/or NC-17, and since it's McShep, it's also m/m. The story takes
place in season 4 after Miller's Crossing and before Quarantine. It's
called "The Legend of Kirk" and can be described thusly:

Colonel Sheppard really isn't Captain Kirk, and Rodney knows it, so
why perpetuate the myth?

Story's a little over 5,000 words, and I'd especially like to see if
others think it's in character. I'm definitely open to suggestions and
ideas from whoever's willing to check it out.

Thanks a lot,

Sarah

This is the kind of beta relationship I like to have. :)

If no one has offered yet, could you give me an idea how many (if more than 1) stories you've written, and approximate word count/page count.

Thanks! If you want to send over something for me to see also, that's fine.

Melody

Hi. I am first and foremost on the lookout for a Beta that can help me
with all the basics: spelling, punctuation, grammar and the likes thereof.

I would absolutely love to have a beta that could give me constructive
criticism, their view on my characterization, a bit of help with the
science in the story, the flow of the story and any plot holes that
might arise. As I said, I would love to have all of the above, but I
might just be greedy. :)

Well then, back to the story.

I am currently working on my first Stargate fiction, ever, and I am a
bit nervous that I might botch it up horribly, but here I go:

The story, at this point, involves mpreg, but I might change that part
later if I find that it does not fit with the story further on.

After being trapped with Carson in an ancient machine, Rodney finds
himself pregnant. throughout the story they must learn to cope with
the new life-altering situation they have been put in

The story will move slowly forward, establishing the friendship as a
stable ground before moving on towards any kind of romantic
relationship between the two.

(I am quite sick of the "wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am" stories where they
all jump from friends to lovers in the space of six hundred words or
less.)

There will be much uncertainties and probably some angst and a bit of
morality issues thrown into the mix. I have to say that the angst
level will be kept at a moderate, but since some people have a low
angst-toleration I can't promise if they will find it too much or not.
I am not a big fan of angst, but I write it when the story demands it.

I should probably state the ratings, too. I have plans to write sex in
this story, but not for many chapters to come. It will mostly be at a
PG-13 level, with a few well-placed curses, but the overall rating
will be NC-17.

Pairing is, of course, Beckett/McKay.

Warnings include M-preg, angst, gay sex, cursing, AU (Beckett never
died in 'Sunday'), possible spoilers for whole series (probably just a
mentioning or two).

Number of chapters. No idea. Probably around 10/15. Will change as the
story progresses.

Additional knowledge: I am not a native English-speaker...

Sincerely
Joe
