I need some help. My computer got a virus and had to be taken away to be sorted out. Unfortunately I forgot to save my work to disc before it went so I have lost everything I had on it. I did have a beta reader, and I'm fairly sure that I sent a Kavanagh/Ronon story to them, probably along with a few other things I've written. If you are that beta reader, could you please send anything I sent you back to me, as I don't have any other copies.
Hope someone out there can help me.

Hello!

As I've said in the subject line, I am new to this group and looking
for a beta reader. I've just posted a character piece on wraithbait
and I am hoping for someone to take a peek at it.
I'm using a crappy word processor, so the best I have is a spell
checker, and no grammar. Unfortunately it has no "in-character"
function as well. Or any other useful little tools that many an author
would kill to have ^.^

So, I am looking for someone to give it an overall check up, but also
let me know what else you think. I'm not very confident in my
characterisation.

If you are interested, please give me a shout at: baconbits@...

Thanks in advance ^.^

It wasn't me, but so sorry to hear!! Though had a thought if you sent
to your beta via email does your server save sent mail, you might
already have a copy there? Yahoo/Gmail both save no matter the computer
I use. Just a thought, hope things get better soon!!

This is my favorite type of relationship on the writing side, so I would be willing to give it a go with you. Warning, I am not always the fastest beta around. (As Kyn knows right now!) Unfortunately I run my own company and I am not online or available during the day. At night, though, I can make time for you on IM if necessary, or email back/forth and beta fiction, but not necessarily every day. (2 year old, too!) I'm looking for someone to do my fic, as well, but for some reason I've never gotten a bite. I guess I'll have to post the first few 'unbeta'd' and hope that triggers someone's interest!!

If you can deal with the time terms,

Hello,

I'm in need of a beta reader for a Ronon/OC story I'm just writing.
Since I'm from Germany and I'm translating this story into English I
need someone who is patient enough to correct all the wrong spelling
and grammar.

I'm looking for someone who ist willing to work with me for some time
since the story isn't finished yet and I don't know how it will be in
the end. The first small chapter is already translated. Two more are
waiting for translation, the rest until now only exists in my head. ;-)

The rating probably will be up to R.

Who's willing to help?

Greetings

Evita

I’ve done my own edit to the text, I just need someone to go through it a pick out any errors, pick at the grammar and generally hold my hand for my first story with *ACTUAL* sex.

I have a few unbeta'd fics that needs your services. I write Gen, H/C
fics with an ocasional angst. Mostly short stories that were posted on
my Livejournal, but I also have at least one multi-chapter. Need
mostly spelling, punctuantion and grammar and I'm not a native English
speaker, and even teaching English as a second language, my grasp of
the language is still far from being the same as the talented betas

It is mostly a Rodney-figures-himself-out fic, but one of the things he figures out includes Sheppard. :) Rated PG I would say, more for idea than action. I need basic grammar and sentence structure poking, plus someone who thinks they 'feel' Rodney well would help, too, since this is all about him.

Hello all,

OK I have FINALLY got my butt in gear and go back to some of my old
stories. This is the first one I have got a full chapter on so I need
it done so I can post it while working on the last part.

It is part 6 of a 7 part series set just after season 2s ep "The
Tower". I had it on many list a year ago when I was still working on
it but it's been a while now. (EEEK 15 months)

You may need to read the other parts to keep continuity but that's up
to you I guess. They are on fanfiction.net. It's all about how the
team rescues Rodney from underground after they kill the ZPM.

Thanks,
Laheara

I have been having the same problem for my stories. I would like to know from some other betas if they are just uber-busy or if, as I suspect, quite a number of them have long-standing mutual relationships with an author and they have gotten into the habit of only beta-reading their stuff. (experience from other fandoms)

I have recently helped someone, and I am available, there are just some limitations, as always. :) I don't have time for huge stories if you are on a deadline and I don't want to beta anything like non-con, bdsm or mpreg for continuity and characterization. I will beta:

Anything under 15,000 words (if it borders, talk to me)
All slash pairings (including F/F)
Gen/Team fics
I can beta het, I just don't generally *read* it
Anything rated G-NC/17 in those catagories
I do have a family business, so I am not available during the day, except on rare occasions. (Make an 'appt' with me, lol)
I have Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, AIM, etc if you want to chat about stuff (I am in Eastern Time Zone)
I use MS Word with the Track Changes option the most to beta

Any other available betas might want to send a similar email to this list with the above info as it pertains to you. Let's see who's really out there!!

Hi all,

I just finished working on all of the stories in my queue and wanted to toss my hat into the fire once again.  When I started as a beta, it was recommended that we post a description of our strengths or beta-review habits, so I'll do that again.

For those who are interested, I can perform three types of beta-review.
Grammar and Punctuation.
Grammar and punctuation aren't my greatest strengths, but I've bought more than a few grammer books in the last couple of years, so if I don't know the answer I can look it up. :)

Simple Analysis.
These are the fast-turnaround, I-just-need-another-set-of-eyes type of requests. Did I like the story? Was there anything glaringly wrong with the plot? Are the characters out-of-character?  For these requests, I will read the story once or twice and give a simple critique of it's strengths and weaknesses. I won't perform any in-depth analysis, and I don't expect the author to re-write the story based on this feedback.

Story lengths for this type of request should not exceed 15,000 words, please, because it's not possible to keep my analytic muse in-check for stories longer than that. :)

Constructive Analysis.
This is my strength - I'm a beta-muse with emphasis in character and plot development.

I take the beta-process seriously, and for this request, I will perform several reads of the author's story in an attempt to give the author the most constructive feedback possible. On the initial read I will try to identify with the reader and add comments where the reader could get confused, and note areas that rely heavily on knowledge of previous episodes which may detract from the story if the reader has not already seen those episodes.  During subsequent reads, I will try to identify with the author - since I now know what the author is trying to accomplish via plot and character development - and can supply suggestions on how to get there more effectively.

I adore story sequels, so many of my suggestions lead to longer, more involved storylines. I can be a harsh critic, but I always try to be constructive, because I *want* to read good stories.  I do ask that authors be willing to perform at least one, possibly two, re-writes after receiving this level of feedback - which is not to imply that the author needs to incorporate the suggestions but rather to point out that there's no real point to my doing a character development and plot analysis if the story is already "finished."  :)
Story Preferences:
1 - Stories should be at least 3000 words, though longer is better.
2 - Stories longer than 30,000 words should come with a basic plot outline.
3 - Teamfic, friendship, hurt/comfort, angst, slash, and just about any male/male pairings are okay.
4 - Male/female pairings are not okay, simply because I can't get my head around those pairings and would be unable to give the author a fair appraisal of his or her work.
5 - Darkfic is okay, but will be negotiated on a case by case read.

One last note, because I do take the process seriously - and because my job is extremely time intensive between January and June - I cannot guarantee an overnight turn-around though I will try to turn the stories around quickly.  Please expect at least 3 days for a review.

Feel free to contact me directly at aleirian@... if you have a story that I can assist with.

Laryn

I am in need of a beta for a Rodney-centric fic.

I'm in need of someone who can give me plot and characterization analysis
and not grammar and
punctuation (although, if such errors are found, it's always appreciated if
they're pointed out).

Length-wise, the story I'm writing is going to be in the ballpark of 25000
words, with 40
parts - each about 6250 words.

It's going to be set post-"Tao of Rodney", though some mention of "Sunday"
will be made in
regards to Carson's character. (And "The Game" *might* be mentioned, but in an
off-hand, general
conversation sort of way.) The pairings are going to be Rodney/John (in a
just-starting-to-get-into-a-relationship way), Rodney/OFC, Rodney/Chuck/Lorne
and John/Carson.
The rating will be NC-17.

The basic idea of the story is that Rodney is stranded on another planet
and goes native.
The majority of the first half of the fic deals with this (with a few parts
focusing on the
"Meanwhile, back in Atlantis...") He ends up staying there for about 3 & 1/3
years and makes a
new life for himself there before people from Atlantis are able to make it back,
with help from a
mutual trade relation. Once back, Rodney has trouble reacclimating himself to
Atlantis and feels
himself stuck between two worlds. Then, he gets a plea for help from his
adopted world and feels
compelled to go back and help them, taking back-up with him (as well as a means
to get home this
time).

If anyone's interested, I can give more in-depth information.

And I'm planning on having the first part done by the end of next
Wednesday.

Thanks,
Adrian

Hi

This forum is a wonderful idea to link writers to betas.

I’m new to Stargate Atlantis fiction but have been writing in other fandoms for a while – long enough to know that I desperately need a beta reader to tell me when I’m being an idiot. Sad to say that happens a lot. Commas are my mortal enemy. I swear they just keep inserting and deleting themselves from my stuff when I’m off in the kitchen brewing coffee. I never know where the little beggars are going to end up.

I’m writing McKay/Sheppard fics and have three in progress with two very close to completion. I am a little Sheppardly when I write. I can’t seem to help but blow things up causing massive property and character damage in my stories. I usually put the characters back together again tho. The first story to be completed is pretty rough at times with un-sexy non-con and graphic torture scenes. It’s also UA… in fact all three of the fics underway are AU.

I need someone who is deeply in love with their virtual red edit pen but I need to warn any potential beta that I am a control freak in that my story stays my story. I’m very open to suggestions and will listen and often make the suggested change but I don’t like it when betas just over write my words with their own.  I’d really appreciate the help and I am far from the type that gets offended at even the harshest beta. I love writing, it’s one of my top drugs of choice but more than just putting words to paper I want to write well. I try to get better with every fic.

Please let me know if you think you’d like to help me.

Mapu

Hiya,

I've been MIA for a while and went to post a fic on Wraithbait, only
to find that the standards have been raised while I was gone. This
makes me happy, since it means that everything I read there is a cut
above, but it also brings to light the fact that my writing toolbox
has a few things missing. I need help correcting the dialog
punctuation of a [currently] seven chapter story. It could probably
use a grammer over-haul as well, just to be on the safe side. ^__^
Hell, at this point, I'll take advice on everything but the underlying
plot structure!

I'm a low maintenance writer. I've just had my uber-self-confidence
shaken, but I'm not fragile and I won't take offense to criticism. I'm
just looking to be a better writer.

I am looking for a beta for a Highlander: the Raven (HLTR) crossover
with SGA. If you are familiar with the Highlander universe but haven't
seen HL:TR, that's OK, I can bring you up to speed on the character in
question.

What I'm looking for in a beta: someone who can help keep me from
having impossibly long sentences; check my grammar, punctuation, and
spelling; help me keep my plot from wandering off aimlessly and offer
constructive suggestions for cohesion if necessary, and who can turn
around a story in a week or less, barring any unforeseen life events.
Right now, the story I'm writing is nearly finished and is about 40
pages in Word. This will be my first SGA story, but it's not the first
fanfic I've ever written.

What I will give my beta in return and notes about me: beta credit of
course, prompt replies to suggested comments/corrections, reasons why
I might disagree or agree with you on something, and virtual
chocolate. I will also make myself available, if asked, to have an
interactive session via ICQ or AIM, keeping in mind that I'm on the
West Coast of the USA, time-wise. My grammar and punctuation style is
American, so please take that into account.

Rating and warnings of the story in question: slash and some violence.
Main focus in terms of SGA characters is Ronon, John, with appearances
by Teyla, Sam, and Major Lorne. One OFC.

Please let me know if you're interested, preferably directly at
wenchita at gmail dot com.

Looking forward to whoever responds!

really, any constructive criticism would be given virtual baked goods.)
Thanks so much!

Hello, I can give you a hand if you would like. I am up to date with
anything SGA and all characters. As this is how I spend my free time.
Please contact me if you wish to have me look over your work.

Thanks

Hi! I'm new to writing SGA- though I have been writing fanfic for
other fandoms for a while now- and I'm writing my first SGA fic of any
length and I need someone's help with the Czech for Radek. I've got
some simple phrases, swears, endearments, and one small little speech
thing. If you can help with any of that I would be eternally grateful!

I'm also looking for someone to proof-read the story for me. It will
end up an NC-17, slash threesome (Radek/John/Rodney), some where
between 10,000-15,000 words. I try to avoid science as much as
possible because I don't know enough of it, but it is a plot heavy
story and therefore has some science in the beginning- genetics- if
anyone can help with that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
