Yes indeedy! I am now the proud owner of a copy of "Scenting
Hallowed Blood" and can *finally* read the whole trilogy! Hurrah!
(If anyone else is short a copy though - bad news, that was the last
one!)

I was also told that a book of short stories is to be published soon,
but only in the US. Naturally, I put my name down for one of these
:-) I expect you guys will be able to buy it by the outlandish
method of actually walking into a shop ;-)

Nope, don't have that 'un. Yet. <g> What are in those?

Not at all bad :-) Although, as ever, I need a holiday to recover
from the holiday :-p

Greetings Opium & other strangers on the list! ;)

As I wrote around the Holidays, I got the new anthology, 'The
Crow-Shattered Lives & Broken Dreams', in which Storm wrote a story
for. Actually, the story is a 'Wraeththu' story, but has it's place
in the dark world of the Crow mythos. It is a good read, as is the
rest of the book so far (I am not finished yet).

Remember, you can be strange, but don't be a stranger!

Greetings Everyone!

I hope everyone is having happy holidays no matter where you are! ;)

Santa brought me a copy of the new Crow anthology featuring a story by
our very own Storm, as well as many other talented & well-known dark
fantasy authors! Just getting ready to brew a pot of coffee, sit back
by the heater, and start reading/devouring this new book! Hope Santa
was just as good to everyone else this year.

Greetings everyone!

Opium & anyone else interested--you might be able to purchased a back
issue of 'Carpe Noctem' with the wonderful interview with Storm. It's
issue number 13. (Oooo spooky, eh?) Check out www.carpenoctem.com for
more info & good luck! ;)

Curious about Caitlin Kiernan, eh? Yes, she is transgender. The
first time I met her at Dragon*Con, I was a bit shocked, but after I
got to know her, I found her to be a very nice and talented lady! I
really enjoyed when she and a few members of Gothic.net gave a
'reading' one evening. Caitlin read the intro from her own book,
'Silk'...she reads as hypnoticlly as she writes! I am very glad I got
to meet and chat with her and am looking forward to doing so again at
D*C in July'99.

Well, gotta fly for now!

Not that it matters, but my curiousity gets the better of me - I have heard
she is transgendered - anyone know this to be true? Curious.

I have both Love in Vein anthologies and I liked them a lot. Cherry by
Christa Faust is still my very favourite of all the stories. I am not sure
why, but it is. :)

Greetings everyone!

Hey Opium, that's cool you have the issue of 'Carpe Noctem'that my
review is in! ;)

I like Anne Rice's earlier books, like 'Vampire Lestat' & 'Queen of
the Damned'...they're my two faves of hers. Back in August(when my
'puter crashed & I was without it for 40 l-o-n-g days)I read the
complete 'Beauty' trilogy by Rice. I like some BDSM books and really
enjoyed her erotica version. The second book, 'Beauty's Punishment',
was the best of the three, to me.

Christa Faust's 'Control Freak' is a 400 plus page book. I read it
this summer, but it started off fine, had some very real BDSM scenes,
a murder mystery, but I just didn't like the way it ended. The plot
twisted and turned in too many loops and ended leaving me
disappointed. :(

Caitin R. Kiernan is a wonderful woman! I had the pleasure of meeting
her at Dragon*Con in September. Although I haven't read 'Silk', I did
have her autograph my copy. I also purchased from her a copy of her
chapbook, 'Candles for Elizabeth', and she signed it too. 'Candles'
is a dynamite booklet of 3 very dark short stories and I highly
recommend it. ;)

I like anthologies better than full novels sometimes. Tonight I just
purchased 'Love In Vein II' (ed.PZB) and 'In The Shadow Of The
Gargoyle' (ed. N.Kilpatrick & T.Roche). Both have some impressive
authors in them & anthologies let me read a samplette of their work.
Now to find the time to read them! ;)

Well, enough for now!
Until Later!

Ok well, it's nothing exciting. There's a pic of it (some of it) at
http://sinister.com/~opium/pix/tattoo.jpg but regardless, it says Opium
Poppy Fields around my wrist in caligraphic lettering, with a pentagram
between each word. Nice and simple <nod>

Heh. I'm the opposite. I look the type. I have blue hair, 10 piercings (only
the nostril one and 4 earrings are vicible - muaha) and heh, well, I wear
all black usually. I just don't look very "normal" - whatever that means :)

I like Anne Ricee a little. never got too into her stuff. i do love Cry to
Heaven a LOT though. Which surprised me. I didn't think I'd like it, and it
ended up being one of my fave books :) And I have heard about the Crow
anthology. I just think there is too much hype about the Crow. The second
movie was eh, and the series is AWFUL (and I have only seen about 10 minutes
of it - I couldnt stand any more. The only thing ok about it is the lead
actor :>) but Storm should have a damn good take on it <grin>

I have read both. And I just got that new Carpe Noctem. Low and Behold,
there you are :) I really liked Exquisite Corpse - though you can't really
like any of the characters like you do in her other books. Lost Souls still
remains my fave Poppy novel.

For me, my fave authors are Storm (duh), Poppy, and that's about it. I like
Francesca Lia Block a bit. I mainly have favourite books, but not authors.
nancy A. Collins is good, as is Anne Rice, and Caitlin kiernan is good too
:) Christa Faust also rocks, but I have only read her short story "cherry" -
her book "Control Freak" is out now I believe. Must get.
Neil Gaiman (I have Neverwhere but haven't read it yet) is good, but I have
only read his Death comics. Oh, for comics I like Death, Johnny the
Homicidal Maniac and Squee! Those are books, really ;)

Greetings everyone!

Opium! Too cool! Describe your tattoo pleazzze. Mine? It's a
half-moon with bella donna flowers wrapped around it...hence, Bella
Luna. Where is it, you ask? The upper part of my left arm and it's
pretty good size, but a sleeve will cover it from view if need be. My
other is tribal lines with a monarch butterfly in the center
surrounded by multicolored bubbles. This one is on my upper right
arm. I have had them about four years and they still look great.
Thinking about another, but not sure as to what yet. The funny thing
is that I don't look like the 'tattoo-type', or so I have been told. ;)

Flo, you need a tattoo. Whatcha say? What kind of design can we

Fave authors? I like Anne Rice (whose birth name was really Howard

Caitlin R. Kiernan, Chet Williamson, John Shirley, Nancy A. Collins
and more! It was highly promoted at Dragon*Con and some of the
authors appeared at the panel to talk about the book...including
Storm.

Oh! Speaking of Crow leads me to the new Crow book, 'The Lazarus
Heart' by Poppy Z. Brite, which I read and reviewed for 'Carpe Noctem'
magazine. My review can be found in the current issue #14. It is the
only book by PZB I have read, but I did purchase 'Exquisite Corpse'
although I haven't read it...yet. ;)

I am a writer of erotica poetry and short stories. I currently have
an electronic book of poems available at www.dreams-unlimited.com. I
also have a vampire erotic story at the special gallery at

drop by and check it out. Comments are welcomed!

After recommendations from a variety of unconnected sources that PZB
might be My Sort Of Thing, I read her book "Lost Souls" a few weeks
back. I have to say I wasn't all that desperately impressed.
Although all the *elements* of this particular genre were there, I
thought it was a bit of a triumph of image over substance. And she's
certainly not half the writer SC is <g>

Picky picky...... ;-)

Anyway, what the hell *do* I like then?....

Well, staying with things Dank and Gloomy <g>, I have a soft spot
for Tanith Lee. Although some of her books seem to sink under the
weight of their own plot (or lack of it!), I really liked "Personal
Darkness" (and it's predecessor "Dark Dance"). I'm sure anyone who
enjoy's SC's books, as much for their style as their theme, would
find these books a good read.

My favourite author for a long time was Samuel Delaney. He's not the
easiest writer to get into, particularly in his later Fantasy
incarnation, but his book of short stories "Driftglass" (different
title in the US, I think) contains some of the most perfectly formed
little gems ever written. Alas, it may be out of print, as are so
many treasures these days, but a trawl through a second hand bookshop
or seventeen may bring luck :-)

I was recently given a copy of "Angels and Visitations" by Neil
Gaiman, a writer whom I had previously turned up my nose at a little
owing to the fact that many of his books have "pictures" (hey, I
spent a long time learning to read, I don't need pictures any more!
;-). Graphic novels, I believe they're called ;-) Anyway, A&V is a
collection of short stories and "stuff" and I rather enjoyed it.

There are, of course, many, many other author/esses I love, but I
suspect you'd all like to finish reading your e-mail sometime before
the end of the week, no? <g>

PS re "alter egos". You may be shocked to learn that "Flo Mudshark"
is not actually my real name! <gg> The trouble with alter egos is
that you eventually turn into them. Flo followed me into cyberspace,
having pestered me for a number of years beforehand, and try as I
might, I cannot get rid of her! <g> Fortunately, I do not have this
somewhat ridiculous title tattoed anywhere about my body :-)

Indeed yes!  This will be beneficial to the list in two respects;
one, it will allow us to become better acquainted, and two, it might
shut me up for a bit!

Hi Sabrina the Bella Luna! *throws bat confetti* I'm Opium, your friendly

slowly growing. There are 9 people on the list now, including myself.
Doesn't seem it though, no one really posts :(

What's the meaning behind your name? Just curious :)

I haven't starting up on that one yet, am trying to get through "Aleph" - I
have a lot going on in my life right now - am in school etc, so don't have a
lot of time to read, and when I do, I often just want to veg in front of the
television, sleep, or catch up on newsgroups etc. I read when I can!! But
that book awaits me on my shelf, along with the rest.

>Here's my situation, if I want the US versions of the Grigori Trilogy

:o Well, hmm, that price sounds correct I think, though I live in Canada.
Fro Inception I ordered: The Monstrous Regiment, Aleph, the Grigori Trilogy,
some magazines (Incception/An Occational Aloxotl (sp?)) and three limited
edition booklets for 40 pounds. I spent about $110 Canadian (which included
postage). Talk to Vix at Inception and she'll help you out. She gave me a
bit of a deal because I ordered a lot. See what she can arrange for you. And
all my books are signed :D (except the ones I bought in Vancouver - where I
live).

Please other people, post stuff! That is the whole point of this list. DUH :P :P

Yeah I heard about that. Apparently there are a couple more due out soon as
well. "Thin Air" "The Thorn Boy" and "Sea Dragon Heir" along with a book
about Egyptian cat magic (I think).

I have no clue what it's about, but I can imagine it has beautiful boys in
it :D and lots of interesting stuff no one else has thought of.

Dunno if you should put an order in for it. That would be up to you <nod> -
ask Vix at Inception, she can help ya out. She's great.

Greetings everyone & thanx Flo for the welcome!

I can't help you out on the newest SC title cause I am still new to
her works. I am almost through with 'Stalking Tender Prey' and am
reading it s-l-o-w-l-y trying to make this good book last!

Here's my situation, if I want the US versions of the Grigori Trilogy
from Meisha Merlin, I will have to wait until July 1999 and July 2000
or I could order all three UK versions from Inception for $45 American
dollars. I have heard/read somewhere that the US versions are
complete manuscripts of her stories comparied to the UK editions, is
this correct? Any suggestions???

Hi Everyone

I just found out that www.bookshop.co.uk are teasing me with the
offer of a new SC book called "Thin Air" which, they tauntingly
inform me, is to be published in February next year.

Does anyone know what this book is about? And will it be actually,
genuinely and manifestly available in high street bookshops, or
should I get my order in with bookshop.uk thingy now?

PS Hello to Sabrina "Bella Luna" - welcome to the select band of
people with impeccable taste in reading material :-)

Greetings Wraththu members!

I just joined the list and thought I'd send out a brief intro...if you
don't mind. My name's Bella Luna and I am a 32 yr. old married female
from the US.

I became interested in Storm Constantine's writings through an article
in 'Carpe Noctem' magazine and had the pleasure of meeting her at
Dragon*Con in September of this year. I purchased a MeishaMerlin copy
of 'Stalking Tender Prey' and am currently engrossed with this novel!
I am only hoping MeishaMerlin will hurry and published the rest of the
Grigori trilogy soon! ;)

Storm's books are very hard to come by here, I think, but I was
*lucky* last week when I chanced upon a complete volume of 'Wraththtu'
by Orb/Tom Doherty Associates at a local bookstore! I am sooo happy
to find it!

So far I am just hooked on 'Stalking Tender Prey' and find the subject
of the Grigori very interesting. I am also very happy to find a list
for Storm's work and subject matter...thanx to whoever started this
list!!!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone on this list...

Until Later...
Bella Luna :)

Have you read "Burying the Shadow" yet? That's my favourite after
the Wraeththu trilogy (tch! I can never spell that word!! How many
"th's" do you need, for goodness sake?? ;-)

My favourite of the W3 (can that be the official acronym? Please???
:-) is TBOLAH - I love how it takes it's time all through the first
section, and allows you to really.. I don't know... *participate*..
in the characters' lives. There's no sense of the needs of the
"plot" forcing the book along (as is too commonly the case in lesser
books!:-). And there is such a wonderful sense of "place" in the
house - you can almost hear the floorboards creaking!

Anyone else care to nominate a favourite? Or even (perish the
thought!;-) a Least Favourite? :-)

Hi Flo :D I'm Opium aka Lorra and I am glad someone has finally spoken up.
There are only about 6 subscribers now, and hopefully it will grow, because
I know there has to be other big fans out there who have internet access.
But the list is still fairly new. Growing slowly :)

>I am Flo due to circumstances beyond my control <g>, but I am delighted to

That would be me :) *pet* :P

I still have not read teh Grigori trilogy, though it sits waiting upon my
bookshelf. I am now in the middle of Aleph, which is the sequel to the
Montrous Regiment. I am workingmy way through all her books. I am only
missing one, which I can get from amazon.com called Three Heralds of the
Storm. 3 short stories, basically. But I have all the rest! I ordered most
from England, through Inception. Cost me a lot, but made me DAMN happy. I
even have the limited edition booklets :D

> but the problem is that I cannot lay my hands on the middle volume at all,

Hmm, i understand completely. But you could order the second volume from
Inception (along with all the other novels *grin*). Just get in touch with
Vix (who should be subscribed to this list by now *grr*) at Peverel@...

>and that an American edition is soon to be issued in the full,

Apparently so, yes, there will be a US printing sometime in the new yyear. I
believe. Just check Storm's website for details.

Anyway, great to hear from you Flo, now how about all you other slackers who
haven't written yet? :P

P.S. Once Storm is done working crazily upon her new stuff, she may in fact
join the list herself. :D

Hello to everyone!

I am Flo, and I am delighted.

I am Flo due to circumstances beyond my control <g>, but I am delighted to
discover that after many, many months of muttering to myself "..hmmm... wish
there was a Storm Constantine mailing list.." that one has indeed been brought
into being, and may I grovel at the feet of our instigator and moderator for
doing so!

I have read all of Storm's books except the Grigori trilogy. I made a start on
it a while back, but the sheer thickness of the first volume thwarted me.
*Not*, I hasten to add, because I am in anyway intimated by thick volumes as far
as reading goes, but because I dropped the wretched thing in the bath, and it
took a helluva long time to dry out!

As if that wasn't bad enough, I have now been able to buy the third of the
series. "What's bad about that?" I hear you all cry (and I will be having
treatment for those little voices very soon, I assure you!;-), but the problem
is that I cannot lay my hands on the middle volume at all, and despite the
enormous enjoyment I derived from reading the Wraeththu trilogy completely in
the wrong order, I feel at my age I really ought to be be going in a straight
line a bit more!

My hopes of obtaining volume 2 were cruelly dashed by an online bookstore who
promised me one then discovered it was all a computer error! Sob!

However, this may have been a blessing in disguise, since I understand that the
UK editions were viciously pruned due to a shortage of dead trees (eh??), and
that an American edition is soon to be issued in the full, unexpurgated, and
extremely absorbant glory! Can anyone confirm this?

Anyway... what else?... I live in the middle of nowhere, so I have no-one to
talk to <cue sympathy>, so please write back - with very little
provocation I can be called upon to discuss anything and everything at great
length!

Hello! Finally some life :)

I too, love the Wraeththu books the best...though I have not read all of
Storm's books yet. I have all of them, including the booklets and a couple
of anthologies she's written for - I had to order them from England though!
But it was worth it. The only one I am missing is "Three Heralds of the
Storm" which I am going to order though Amazon books. I definately recommend
"Calenture" and I am reading "Aleph" at the moment, and just finished
"Monsterous Regiment" (very good, disturbing near the end!). I have also
read "Hermetech" which started off a bit slow but got very good and
worthwhile to read.
I have talked to Vix at Inception and hopefully she and Storm will join the
list :)
Not sure what "Sea Dragon Heir" is going to be about, but I believe the
first of the trilogy will be out next year some time, along with "the Thorn
Boy" and a book to do with Egyptians and cats with another writer - not sure
of the exact title, though it's on her website.

Anyway, take care.

Opium

P.S. I live in Vancouevr Canada since you all said where from :>

I agree with Carole. The Wraeththu books are my favorite. Even though I
have read all of Storm's books, and liked them all, I love the people in
the Wraththu series. Does anyone know what her _Sea Dragons Heir_ will be
about. I live in the United States, so I have to go elsewhere for books
and news about upcoming books. Well, that's all for now. Thanks!

Hi there,
I just signed up for this list, so I thought I`d send a
quick post to say hi, and introduce myself. My name`s Carole and I live in
Birmingham, in the U.K. The first Wraeththu book was recommended to me ten
years ago, by a friend, who knew Storm. I read "The Enchantments of Flesh
and Spirit" and immediately rushed out to get "The Bewitchments of Love and
Hate" I was absolutely enthralled! I bought "The Fulfilments of Fate and
Desire" as soon as it came out. I`ve read the books several times, although
not for a couple of years, and thinking about them now has whetted my
appetite, so I think I may have to read them again. I`ve read a couple more
of Storm`s books, "Hermetech", and "The Monstrous Regiment", and while I
enjoyed them, the Wraeththu books are definitely my favourites.
Well, I`ll let someone else get a word in,<g>and I look forward to
chatting with you.
               bye for now, Carole

Hi there newcomers. You are the first two to subscribe other than myself :)
Hope fully this list will become a success - please tell others about it.
I'm the moderator, Opium/Lorra. I have talked to someone who runs Inception,
and hopefully she and Storm herself will join! For now, while there isn't
much to get in the way of information, shall we just chat about the books?
Who are your favourite characters? Why?
Which was your favourite of Storm's novels?
Did her stories inspire you at all (to write, etc)

Please contribute :) I am always looking to meet other fans!

Luv,

Opium
