Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz predicted in 2003 that the cost of
the Iraq war would be covered by Iraqi oil revenue, which would also pay for
reconstruction. The Iraq war has in fact cost the United States more than $900
billion, including more than $145 billion US and Iraqi dollars for rebuilding
and local contracting to support US forces. Six years of reconstruction has been
a failure, with most projects unfinished or so poorly built that they have been
abandoned. Water and electricity has not been restored to the level enjoyed
under Saddam Hussein. Even those inclined to look on the bright side acknowledge
that at least $13 billion has been lost to fraud, theft, and waste. Most would
put the number much higher, possibly as much as $125 billion if one includes
both American and Iraqi money.

�Summary: The thing most associated with America -- freedom -- is precisely what
must be destroyed if this is to be turned into a basically different country to
suit Obama's vision of the country and of himself.

�The serious, and sometimes chilling, provisions of the medical care legislation
that President Obama has been trying to rush through Congress are important
enough for all of us to stop and think, even though his political strategy from
the outset has been to prevent us from having time to stop and think about it.

�What we also should stop to think about is the mindset behind this legislation,
which is very consistent with the mindset behind other policies of this
administration, whether the particular issue is bailing out General Motors,
telling banks who to lend to or appointing "czars" to tell all sorts of people
in many walks of life what they can and cannot do.
�The idea that government officials can play God from Washington is not a new
idea, but it is an idea that is being pushed with new audacity.

�What they are trying to do is to create an America very unlike the America that
has existed for centuries -- the America that people have been attracted to by
the millions from every part of the world, the America that many generations of
Americans have fought and died for.

�This is the America for which Michelle Obama expressed her resentment before it
became politically expedient to keep quiet.

�It is the America that Reverend Jeremiah Wright denounced in his sermons during
the 20 years when Barack Obama was a parishioner, before political expediency
required Obama to withdraw and distance himself.

�The thing most associated with America -- freedom -- is precisely what must be
destroyed if this is to be turned into a fundamentally different country to suit
Obama's vision of the country and of himself. But do not expect a savvy
politician like Barack Obama to express what he is doing in terms of limiting
our freedom.

�He may not even think of it in those terms. He may think of it in terms of
promoting "social justice" or making better decisions than ordinary people are
capable of making for themselves, whether about medical care or housing or many
other things. Throughout history, egalitarians have been among the most arrogant
people.

�Obama has surrounded himself with people who also think it is their job to make
other people's decisions for them. Not just Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, his health care
advisor who complains of Americans' "over-utilization" of medical care, but also
Professor Cass Sunstein, who has written a whole book on how third parties
should use government power to "nudge" people into making better decisions in
general. Then there are a whole array of Obama administration officials who take
it as their job to pick winners and losers in the economy and tell companies how
much they can and cannot pay their executives.
�Just as magicians know that the secret of some of their tricks is to distract
the audience, so politicians know that the secret of many political tricks is to
distract the public with scapegoats.

�No one is more of a political magician than Barack Obama. At the beginning of
2008, no one expected a shrewd and experienced politician like Hillary Clinton
to be beaten for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States by
someone completely new to the national political scene.

�But Obama worked his political magic, with the help of the media, which he
still has.

�Barack Obama's escapes from his own past words, deeds and associations have
been escapes worthy of Houdini.

�Like other magicians, Obama has chosen his distractions well.

�The insurance industry is currently his favorite distraction as scapegoats,
after he has tried to demonize doctors without much success.

�Saints are no more common in the insurance industry than in politics or even
among paragons of virtue like economists. So there will always be horror
stories, even if these are less numerous or less horrible than what is likely to
happen if Obamacare gets passed into law.

�Obama even gets away with saying things like having a system to "keep insurance
companies honest" -- and many people may not see the painful irony in
politicians trying to keep other people honest. Certainly most of the media are
unlikely to point out this irony.

only the illusion of how wonderful his changes would be.

self-aggrandizement are more than they expected. Obama has become a dictator
with his self-appointed Marxist administration, including many with dubious
histories, and no one is stopping them.

We have all witnessed quite a show since Barack Obama became president. Because
the country was facing “crisis” after “crisis,” Obama and his team were
more than happy to inject government into the private operations of banks, the
auto industry, and energy sector.
But, of course, that’s not enough. Now with the latest cybersecurity bill
making its way through Congress, Obama not only will have control over General
Motors but could also have control over the Internet. With the power to “shut

piece of freedom and add it to his growing list of industries and activities

The cynicism and shallowness of politics were abundantly displayed throughout
the debate over the “stimulus” bill.
The Obama administration and its allies in Congress see themselves as champions
of democracy, yet the process by which the bill was rammed through Congress
flouted the democratic spirit. The final bill was nearly 1,100 pages, but
members of Congress had little chance to read it. They were promised 48 hours,
but did not get even that much time. Not one could claim to know all that was in
the bill. Advocates described it as a fundamental restructuring of
government’s approach to the economy. That would seem to require ample time
for debate and deliberation, but it was not to be. President Obama and his
supporters repeatedly urged speedy passage, saying that with the economy tanking
and unemployment rising, the country did not have the luxury of time. Skeptics
wondered what they had to fear from a close examination.

A new bill has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives called the
National Emergency Centers Act or HR 645. This bill if passed into law will
direct the Secretary of Homeland Security to establish national emergency
centers otherwise known as FEMA camp facilities on military installations. This
is an incredibly disturbing piece of legislation considering that the powers
that be have already set in motion an agenda to setup a nationwide marital law
apparatus through U.S. Northern Command and the Department of Homeland Security.
Apparently, the fusion centers, militarized police, surveillance cameras and a
domestic military command is not enough. Even though we already know that
detention facilities are already in place, they now want to legalize the
construction of FEMA camps on military installations using the ever popular
excuse that the facilities are for the purposes of a national emergency. With
the phony debt based economy getting worse
  and worse by the day, the possibility of civil unrest is becoming a greater
threat to the establishment. One need only look at Iceland, Greece and other
nations for what might happen in the United States next. With this in mind, it
appears as if these so called national emergency centers will be used in a
national emergency but only if the national emergency requires large groups of
people to be rounded up and detained. If that isn’t the case, than why have
these national emergency facilities built in military installations?

Health Care Reform
“The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s
money”-Margaret Thatcher.
With a projected $1.8 trillion deficit for 2009, several trillions more in
deficits projected over the next decade, and with both Medicare and Social
Security entitlement spending about to ratchet up several notches over the next
15 years as Baby Boomers become eligible for both, we are rapidly running out of
other people’s money. These deficits are simply not sustainable and they are
either going to result in unprecedented new taxes and inflation or they will
bankrupt us.
While we clearly need health care reform, the last thing our country needs is a
massive new health care entitlement that will create hundreds of billions of
dollars of new unfunded deficits and moves us much closer to a complete
governmental takeover of our health care system. Instead, we should be trying to
achieve reforms by moving in the exact opposite direction-toward less
governmental control and more individual empowerment. Here are eight reforms
that would greatly lower the cost of health care for everyone:
1. Remove the legal obstacles which slow the creation of high deductible health
insurance plans and Health Savings Accounts. The combination of high deductible
health insurance and Health Savings Accounts is one solution that could solve
many of our health care problems. For example, Whole Foods Market pays 100% of
the premiums for all our team members who work 30 hours or more per week (about
89% of all team members) for our high deductible health insurance plan, and
provides up to $1,800 per year in additional health care dollars through
deposits into their own Personal Wellness Accounts to spend as they choose on
their own health and wellness. Money not spent in one year rolls over to the
next and grows over time. Our team members therefore spend their own health care
dollars until the annual deductible is covered (about $2,500) and the insurance
plan kicks in. This creates incentives to spend the first $2,500 more carefully.
Our plan’s costs are
  much lower than typical health insurance, while providing a very high degree of
team member satisfaction.
2. Change the tax laws so that that employer-provided health insurance and
individually owned health insurance have exactly the same tax benefits. Right
now employer health insurance benefits are fully tax deductible for employers
but private health insurance is not. This is unfair.
3. Repeal all state laws which prevent insurance companies from competing across
state lines. We should all have the legal right to purchase health insurance
from any insurance company in any state and we should be able use that health
insurance wherever we live. Health insurance should be portable everywhere.
4. Repeal all government mandates regarding what insurance companies must cover.
These mandates have increased the cost of health insurance many billions of
dollars. What is insured and what is not insured should be determined by
individual health insurance customer preferences and not through special
interest lobbying.
5. Enact tort reform to end the ruinous lawsuits that force doctors into paying
insurance costs of hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. These costs are
ultimately being passed back to us through much higher prices for health care.
6. Make health care costs transparent so that consumers will understand what
health care treatments cost. How many people know what their last doctor’s
visit cost? What other goods or services do we as consumers buy without knowing
how much they will cost us? We need a system where people can compare and
contrast costs and services.
7. Enact Medicare reform: we need to face up to the actuarial fact that Medicare
is heading towards bankruptcy and move towards greater patient empowerment and
responsibility.
8. Permit individuals to make voluntary tax deductible donations on their IRS
tax forms to help the millions of people who have no insurance and aren’t
covered by Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP or any other government program.
Many promoters of health care reform believe that people have an intrinsic
ethical right to health care-to universal and equal access to doctors,
medicines, and hospitals. While all of us can empathize with those who are sick,
how can we say that all people have any more of an intrinsic right to health
care than they have an intrinsic right to food, clothing, owning their own
homes, a car or a personal computer? Health care is a service which we all need
at some point in our lives, but just like food, clothing, and shelter it is best
provided through voluntary and mutually-beneficial market exchanges rather than
through government mandates. A careful reading of both The Declaration of
Independence and the Constitution will not reveal any intrinsic right to health
care, food or shelter, because there isn’t any. This “right” has never
existed in America.
Even in countries such as Canada and the U.K., there is no intrinsic right to
health care. Rather, citizens in these countries are told by governmental
bureaucrats what health care treatments and medicines they are eligible to
receive and when they can receive them. All countries with socialized medicine
ration health care by forcing their citizens to wait in lines to receive scarce
and expensive treatments. Although Canada has a population smaller than
California, 830,000 Canadians are waiting to be admitted to a hospital or to get
treatment. In England, the waiting list is 1.8 million citizens. At Whole Foods
we allow our team members to vote on what benefits they most want the company to
fund on their behalf. Our Canadian and British team members express their
benefit preferences very clearly-they want supplemental health care more than
additional paid time off, larger donations to their retirement plans, or greater
food discounts; they want health
  care dollars that they can control and spend themselves without permission from
their governments. Why would they want such additional health care benefit
dollars to spend if they already have an “intrinsic right to health care”?
The answer is clear-no such right truly exists in either Canada or the U.K.-or
in any other country.
Rather than increase governmental spending and control, what we need to do is
address the root causes of disease and poor health. This begins with the
realization that every American adult is responsible for their own health.
Unfortunately many of our health care problems are self-inflicted with over 2/3
of Americans now overweight and 1/3 obese. Most of the diseases which are both
killing us and making health care so expensive-heart disease, cancer, stroke,
diabetes, and obesity, which account for about 70% of all health care spending,
are mostly preventable through proper diet, exercise, not smoking, minimal or no
alcohol consumption, and other healthy lifestyle choices.

The arguments against the power of the states to arrest federal tyranny are as

in nature as the Declaration of Independence. One of the most commonly used
arguments against such a State power is the United States Supreme Court (US S
CT) dicta opinion in Marbury v. Madison in 1803, written by Chief Justice John
Marshall. Before getting into the misunderstandings and misapplications of that
infamous decision, we must first recognize the source and character of
Marshall’s opinion. As Marshall himself admitted that the US is to be a
country of “laws, not men,” we must establish that Marshall’s opinion does
not equate to the “supreme law of the land” which the states and individuals
are bound to obey. If our submission only requires that the US S CT speak, then
we do not live as freemen, but as slaves.

Ofelia G Wade, principal of Eagle Bay Elementary School in Utah, is apologizing
– after the fact of course – for showing a severely pro-Obama and left wing
cause video to an assembly of elementary school children. The video is chock
full of celebrities saying “I pledge…” and then going through a litany of
left-wing causes from not using plastic bags, to driving hybrids to not flushing
after you pee to outright pledging to Barack Obama.
The video is just an example of the slick marketing of the left-wing that
continues on. This time it is headed into our classrooms.

1.  Teddy.  There are only five polite words to describe the passing of Ted
Kennedy.  They are:  “Mary Jo Kopechne” and “Robert Bork.”  Any other
discussion would have to include his destruction of American power on the
foreign stage starting with the loss in Vietnam that directly led to two million
dead in Cambodia.  It would have to include the two immigration reform acts he
sponsored that changed the mix of people immigrating into the United States from
primary European to third world; specifically the massive illegal influx over
the last four decades.  It would have to include his virulent anti-Second
Amendment legislation and serial attempts to ban gun and ammunition ownership. 
It would have to include the Waitress Sandwich sexual assault on a waitress in a
DC restaurant with Chris Dodd.  It would include him covering for his nephew
William Kennedy Smith on rape charges in 1991.  Good riddance.
 


2.  UAW Health Care.  From Sweetness & Light Wednesday we get a Detroit Free
Press story describing yet another public bailout for the UAW medical care
fund.  This fund gives UAW retirees health care coverage and is one of the
primary reasons that Chrysler and General Motors failed in the marketplace. 
The first bailout was the federal seizure of both corporations, the shafting of
bondholders of those corporations during bankruptcy proceedings, and awarding
substantial ownership shares of the post-bankruptcy corporations to the UAW,
portions far in excess of what the UAW owned in stocks and bonds.  The second
bailout was the recently defunct cash for clunkers program, which was intended
to primarily benefit Chrysler and GM.  Fortunately, the general public refused
for the most part to purchase vehicles from those corporations.  The UAW
bailout in the health care legislation is around $10 billion.  This amount of
money still does not cover all
  fiscal responsibilities for the UAW to its retirees, as there are an awful lot
of retirees and insufficient monies in the UAW-managed fund.  How many more
public bailouts of fiscally irresponsible union retirement plans are we going to
have to pay for?  How many more transfers of our hard earned tax dollars to
democrat voters, big dollar donors and supporters will we endure before we stand
up and say “Enough.  No more?”  I say the time is now.  It is time for
the unions themselves to go into bankruptcy rather than continuing to suckle
from the public trough.
 



3.  Show Trials.  The Obama WH decided to change the subject once again as
their attempt to nationalize medical care and health insurance is being rejected
by the general public.  Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder decided to
appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate detainee abuses, torture, and other
unpleasantries committed against captured terrorists.  The political
calculation here is to get the hard left on board with the administration once
again after a very tough summer.  The actual result will be to target career
CIA employees who conducted the interrogations in good faith for banana republic
style investigations, hold show trials, and impoverish them with crushing legal
bills as they defend themselves.  Given the highly politicized nature of the
CIA these days and the war they conducted against the Bush Administration over
the conduct of the War on Terror over the last eight years, I am not
particularly sympathetic, as they now
  have the administration they wanted all along and ought to be enjoying its
tender mercies.  Late in the week, Limbaugh passed along thoughts from Andrew
McCarthy on the investigation.  McCarthy, who writes for the National Review
Online and prosecuted the original World Trade Center terrorists in the early
1990s believes that the democrats will not have the intestinal fortitude to
actually hold the trials here in the US.  Rather, he expects that the Obama
administration will release the results of the investigations to the public and
let the International Criminal Court and European national courts do the trials
and convictions in abstentia of the targeted CIA employees and Bush
administration appointees.  These investigations are a sop to the hard left and
will do significant damage to the CIA.  Perhaps it is time to shut down the CIA
and set up a new intelligence organization, which would solve the immediate
problem of both the right and the left
  with what the CIA has become today.
 



4.  Denver.  One of the things the left is very good at doing is projection,
the act of blaming others for doing the very things they are currently doing or
planning to do.  With this definition in mind, we can turn to a vandalism
attack on a democrat party office in Denver last week where a pair of
club-wielding bozos broke 11 windows causing over $11,000 of damage.  The head
of the state democrat party instantly blamed it on the Tea Party crowd,
anti-Obama haters and other conservative ne’er-do-wells.  Interestingly
enough, there was video shot during the attack that led to the identification of
a long time democrat, transgender activist doing the dirty deed.  He / she was
arrested and charged with felony mischief.  This person also worked for a
democrat politician, was a member of a SEIU-affiliated 527 group called Colorado
Citizens Coalition.  He / she was also arrested at the 2008 Republican
convention in Minneapolis – St. Paul.  The
  Colorado state party chairman refused to apologize for charging conservatives
with the crime and for creating an “atmosphere of hate.”  As usual, the
atmosphere of hate exists mostly on the left. 
 



5.  VA ALS.  In our universal health care story of the day, we have the
Veterans Administration (VA) which notified 1,200 veterans that they had Lou
Gehrig’s disease (ALS), a 100% fatal condition.  The notifications were
blamed on a “coding error” that led to mailed notifications from the VA to
the vets.  The letters also contained a description of assistance provided by
the VA for the terminally ill, including access to the pamphlet “Your Life,
Your Choices” – the VA death book.  Kind of makes you wonder how many of
the wrongly notified vets took the VA up on the suggestion.  Note that this is
what governments do – screw-ups on a massive scale; scaring the ever loving
tar out of thousands with just an “oopsie, it’s a coding error” excuse
afterwards.  If these vets had the ability to opt out of the VA system and take
their medical benefits in the form of a Medical Savings Account that could be
used to go out into the economy
  and find their own medical care, this sort of thing would never have happened
en masse.  It may have happened to one or two of them, but never to 1,200 at
once.  And every single one of them would not have been subjected to the tender
mercies of the VA Death Book after the mis-diagnosis.  Think of this as we
continue down the road to Sweeney Todd Medicine, ObamaCare.  Hot Air, Tues .
 


6.  Kookesh.  Democrat state senator Al Kookesh and others were busted in July
for taking 73 more red salmon with a net than they were allowed to take.  The
excuse to the state trooper who cited them was that a friend who had a permit
for 100 additional fish was not there yet but would be there Real Soon Now –
the functional equivalent of “a dog ate my homework.”  Rather than paying
the $500 fine, Kookesh is going to take the case to court and attempt to get a
federal judge to say that state troopers do not have jurisdiction to enforce
limits on fish and fame taking on federal lands.  Essentially, Kookesh is going
to try to expand federal control over hunting and fishing in Alaska using the
1980 ANILCA legislation and the courts as his vehicle.  This has potential to
do great harm, as the feds do not have sufficient manpower to enforce fish and
game limits, and subsistence hunters and fishermen have not demonstrated the
discipline or
  integrity to police themselves.  Evidence of this are the 70+ caribou shot
near Point Hope last year left to rot; Kookesh’s party taking 70+ more fish
than they were allowed in July; and the native protest on the Yukon that took
nearly 100 king salmon this summer after the river had been closed due to a poor
return of salmon.  Eventually, this “I’ve got special rights to do whatever
I want to do whenever I want to do it and to whomever I want do it because I am
a native and I have a right to live a subsistence lifestyle” garbage has got
to stop.  Either we are all equal in the eyes of the law or we are not.  And
if we are not, that means we are living under a different set of rules; rules
that are created and enforced out of the end of a gun.  I do not think our
native activist neighbors want to live in that world as much as they think they
do.

I will be surprised beyond belief if this decision is upheld. If there's one
thing we know, the FED is above USG control. We know the FED is owned by 5 - 7
private banks, one of which is AGI. (George Soros is a major stockholder.) If
the names of the other super banks are public, I haven't heard.
