Laurie kicked it off with reflections on her mis-education regarding Christopher
Columbus, Jess, right behind, with we're going to get it until Gowrie's poem's
starting talking shit. Cloven hoofed and bare tongued, Elizabeth rang in her
birthday, Shervin's attachments trampled all his holy places and Ashep spoke of
multiple pathways to immortality. Xavier featured a Peruvian poet while Amy's
thirsty tree drank of her roots. Marcos sang with such beauty in Spanish, while
working in tall buildings. Transformation is on it's way and Laurie asked it
not be delayed, while Gowrie mused about being the wrong color of the rainbow.
Jessica beat back oppression and Shervin took one more step despite his
weariness. Elizabeth brought us home with some of her comic bits. This
community is a gift. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
See you Monday, November 9, 7pm (2nd Monday of the month) @ Bossa. The always
fun and raucous Mo Allem will be hosting!

Bossa is in trouble and had it's license revoked after its FIRST infraction by
the ABC Board for not meeting food sale revenue benchmarks. That's right --
they want to close Bossa not for serving minors or repeated violence in their
establishment (like others in DC) but for not meeting food sale revenues during
a recession.
YOU CAN HELP!
Please email Councilman Graham and ask for his support in reaching an
accommodation with Bossa.

Hello Word of Mouth Community -
It has been some time since we all came together -- and I'm excited to
offer an opportunity to make magic again via the DC Guerrilla Poetry
Insurgency.
While many of the poets spit socially-conscious poetry (aka political)
-- all poetry is welcome, so don't be shy! We will have a sign-up list
and yours truly will be hosting.
Monday, May 19
7pm
Dupont Circle (outside in the circle!)
We'll be having a musical feature -- Batala an all women band, that
plays Afro-Brazilian / Samba-Reggae rhythms. They will knock your
socks off!
If you are a drummer -- you're welcome to bring your drum and invite
poets to collaborate with you (this will be at the discretion of
individual poets). We'll also be able to plug in mp3 players if you
want some beats behind you!
If you have any questions -- feel free to shoot me an email. It would
be pure delight to see your smiling faces -- it's been far to long.
FYI -- we'll be doing this every 3rd Monday through October -- so if
May doesn't work, come out in June, July etc.
If it's raining on Monday, May 19 -- please call 202-352-5635 -- to
find out if it's been canceled.
Much love and blessings to you all -

word of mouth started from a weekly commitment to the passion and power of
community
getting together and sharing, encouraging each other's expressive and artistic
voice. i was
there at the beginning in 1999 and have watched it evolve and revolve from rumba
to chi cha
to bossa to hr57. from experimenting with musicians, hosting local artists,
ingesting the
shifts from 911, we kept the caravan moving.... it's is always hard to let go.
please join
bethany and i in what will be my last night hosting word of mouth.

The energy was popping! I can't say I've been to many Word of Mouth's
where people were actually dancing and making rhythm!
Thanks to all the poets who came out - my coho Bethany, Danny, Amy,
Brian, Jess, Lou and Ruben - as well as the listeners Martin, Gail etc...
A very special thanks to Jon Braman our Ukelele folk hip-hop
revolutionary that really got the party started and then to the
dynamic duo closing out the night Sitcom - Cherie and Artivis!
Thanks to everyone for making my last hosting experience a fun one and
especially to all who continue to make WOM at Bossa a special space to
read and play in! Next WOM is hosted by Laila and Bethany on Monday,
May 22.
Much love -
Laurie
P.S. If you're interested in a similar vibe come check out the DC

NOTICE: WORD OF MOUTH is CANCELLED for this evening only! Read more...
Today, hundreds of thousands of people are gathering in the city to rally and protest for the National Day of Action for Immigrant Justice.
With such high projected participation, we understand that many of our poets will be predisposed with events related to the rally, and we support you in your efforts for being an active member of society.
Although we will not be gathering this evening for our open-mic event,
the opportunity for creativity and expression is not lost. :)
In fact, we challenge, we dare, we encourage you... to write...
How do you feel about immigration? How do you feel about living in the United States? Have you ever lived outside of the US? What was that like?
However you happen to become inspired, either directly or indirectly from today's events, in lieu of meeting with Word of Mouth poets this evening at our usual venue in Adams Morgan, Bossa Bistro, kick back in your recliner, or go out to a post-rally party and talk with people, and then be ready with pen and paper.
Word of Mouth will see you in two weeks on MONDAY, APRIL 24, 2006 at Bossa Bistro in Adams Morgan, 8:00pm. Same bat time, same bat channel.
Thank you for your understanding.
See you on the 24th!
