Description

The Wonder Wand (Mk1) was the first product developed in late 2002 and provides a simple but effective means of getting on the air with your portable HF amateur radio transceiver (FT-817, FT-897, IC-703, Elecraft K1&2 etc) when a compact antenna is needed.
Simple to operate, The Wonder Wand (currently Mk4 with new 6ft whip) can also be used on other HF radios up to 40 watts P.E.P.
HF Operation: Connect directly to the antenna socket - SO239 or BNC - it can be supplied with either!
Extend the telescopic whip to its maximum length and then position it away from both obstructions and yourself as personal RF safety guidelines apply here.

Rotate the band switch on the rear of the unit to select the desired band of operation between 7Mhz and 50Mhz. The unit is pre-tuned for optimum match on each band so no further adjustment is necessary unless a substantial ground is connected, in which case the whip may need to be adjusted.

For VHF and UHF operation between 50Mhz and 440Mhz the unit becomes a simple whip antenna (adjust to obtain the best match).

The Tunable Counterpoise System ( TCP ) is a portable ground radial system designed to work with the Wonder-Wand antenna and with other types currently available. The TCP is a tuning box that interfaces the chassis of the radio to a short 4m counterpoise, which you extend out over the ground for even better performance.

The New "Wide-Bander"
Since its launch in the fall of 2009, the "Wide-bander" has become the most popular antenna in the product range. It has also become the most versatile yet compact, rig mounted full coverage antenna system on the market to date. Whether its the HAM bands from 160m to 70cm or general SW listening, it has it all on whip or wire... Anywhere..

*Also available* "Narrow band" versions - the "2010"(20m-10m)& "4017"(40m -17m) tuneable 6ft whip antennas - 10-20W P.E.P.

*Another innovative product launched back in 2004 is the FT-817 adjustable height snap-on stand.

Using the Wide Bander on VHF/UHF
A little discussed use of the Wide Bander is on 2m/70cm. I just racked up the following contacts on messing with 2m SSB whilst the 144MHz May contest was on:

Re: Tx resonance without counterpoise.
It will work but I would get a counterpoise for the antenna, makes a big difference. I have the TCP from Wonderwand, but at a push you should cut a quarter
