Re: [womenoftheroundtable] Knowing God vs. Knowing About God

Hi Everybody!

Carrie, I have been pondering this question all week.  This morning I read something in my devotional that I wanted to share.  It says that, "faith is a gift that increases with use."  It also says, "confess any tendency to play it so safe you actually begin to suffocate the faith you have."  Hmm, pondering playing it safe, getting out of my comfort zone - am I stifling my walk of faith by saying no to things due to health issues.  This is always a balancing act that I struggle with.  How much to say yes to and how much to say no to.  In honestly evaluating what I can and cannot do physically (or for someone else it may be other reasons) am I being prudent by saying no, or is God wanting me to step out and just trust Him with the outcome.   I know He will provide for me because He does it every day but I also know I need to be wise as to what I commit myself to.  Does anyone else struggle with these questions?  Would love to learn the plumb line of truth here.  Jane DiGiacomo

Subject: [womenoftheroundtable] Knowing God vs. Knowing About God

I'm writing a book report on Packer's "Knowing God" and have been challenged to revisit
my formation of thoughts. As I accumulate knowledge of God by experiencing Him in
various aspects of living, I've noticed a few things:
1. The longer I've walked with God, the stronger my faith has become in the areas I have
seen Him work.
2. The longer I've known Him, the more I have been able to yield my trust in Him.
3. The longer I've studied His Word, the more I realize I know very little, after all.

So I wonder, do I really KNOW Him?

If my Knowing God solely depends on trusting Him in the areas I've experienced Him, then
I am limiting His power to work in my life? This is a NOW word for me as I've just decided
(after praying all week) to say yes to Uganda.

Do we need to pursue a greater walk of faith by intentionally stepping out of our comfort
zone in order to know Him more fully? if so, what are some of the areas you feel God
beckoning you to get out of the comfort of your own boat in order to step out onto the
waters with Him?

Pondering together with you....
Carrie
