This group is intended as a resource for the populace of the West Kingdom of the SCA, providing a forum to ask questions about SCA names, armory, and the heraldic registration process as it is set up in the West, and to receive answers from the heraldic community.

It is also intended as a means of training heralds interested in learning book heraldry in general and heraldic consultation in particular. As any learning process inevitably involves errors, courtesy and understanding are essential for all participants.

Membership is open to all. Only members may post messages. The membership list will not be visible to anyone except moderators.

Those with questions: Please put your name and question type (name question / armory question / admin question) in the subject line of your message to assist in keeping threads identifiable. Plain English is better than heraldic terminology unless you are certain you are using the latter correctly.

Those responding: Please phrase your answers for a general audience, avoiding the use of jargon. Please explain your reasoning, including references to the SCA heraldic Standards for Evaluating Names and Armory (SENA), Administrative Handbook (AH), Glossary of Terms (GT), and past Laurel decisions as recorded in Letters of Acceptance and Return (LOAR). All of these resources may be consulted online at the main SCA heraldry web page at http://heraldry.sca.org/ . Explanation is particularly important if you find it necessary to correct someone else's response.
