Okay, time's up.

As all CinCs, I'm going to need help.  But in this case, I'm going to need
some very -specific- help.  I've been asked to help staff a war-morning
meeting by my Princess and Prince, and since I have yet to master
bilocation, I will need two volunteers to open Gate on Saturday morning (by
which I mean you're at Gate AT 7:45, ready to open at 8) until I can get
free at 10. I would like it very much if these two volunteers could each
sit with me a short time at Gate on Friday, so I can run down my

Speaking of which.  I'm an old Constable, back in harness again.  I confess
I'm somewhat...particular about how events go from a Constabulary
perspective.  I think you'll find that in the long run (and in the medium
run, too), you'll find that it makes things easier.  Please, if you're
coming to the War, fighting or not, come sit with me on Friday at the Gate,
and maybe take a spin around site with me on firewatch.  It doesn't have to
be a full shift--just long enough so we can go over things.  And if you DO
stay longer, I'd welcome the help and company...and if you can get me off
of Gate, I can go find MORE volunteers to take your place.  If you want to
volunteer in advance, my email address is above (not sure the Cynaguan
Constable address has been switched over yet).

By the bye, the new/old things we'll be doing are going to be standard

I know this is a touch late in the day but I just keep forgetting to post...

Here's the deal. I'm responsible for gate Friday, and Saturday until around
noon, which is when Wulfstan should get to site and take over as CinC. The only
problem with this is I'm running the tab table for the All-Request Bardic Friday
night (Saturday too, but that's mostly irrelevant here). As Gwyn said in his
request for help for the war, I'm no good at bi-location.

So...

HELP!!!

Can I sweet-talk someone (or, preferably, some *ones*) into taking gate from,
say, 6 or 7 Friday until shutting it down (the usual, midnight, 1, 2, whatever
seems logical based on the amount of traffic coming in).

Then, can I sweet-talk some ones (the same ones, or others) to open it up around
8ish Saturday morning and cover until either I roll out (since I'm running tabs
until the bards get tired, I often don't get to bed until 3-4am, so I'm sleeping
in!) or Wulfy rolls in?

plastic buckets with lids, 2-1/2 gallon capacity. They've had toxic stuff in it
so they can't be used for drinking water, but they could work well as water
buckets for fire control. The West Kingdom used to have a number of five gallon
buckets which they'd keep in the constabulary trailer and hand them out to
people who didn't have fire extinguishers.

If anybody's interested in them, and would be willing to bring them to events,
please let me know.

(And, BTW, whatever happened to the constabulary trailer? I haven't seen it in
donkey's years...)

I will gladly add them to the Kingdom's supplies.  The next event I'll
probably be at will be Mists Fall Coronet, followed by October Crown.



As for the Trailer:  It was old, heavy, and had the tiny tires on it.
It was retired around the time that Bethia took on the Kingdom Constable
job and we haven't replaced it.   Not many people have the space to
store a trailer at their house (sometimes an additional trailer if they
have one of their own for their SCA gear).  And then there is the issue
of trailer theft which is becoming more and more common.



The idea of acquiring a new trailer for the Constabulary has been kicked
around by the Kingdom Officers, and maybe in a year or so when we've
recouped our losses from the lawsuit settlement, another one will be
acquired.  But that will still bring up the issue of storage in the
future and forcing the officer to have a vehicle capable of towing it.

I don't expect to be at either one, but if somebody wants to make a side
trip to Sacramento for Crown, they can pick them up at my place. (In
fact, it doesn't even have to be Crown weekend). Just drop me an email
so I can put them out for pick-up.

As for the tiny tires, my own trailer had tiny tires, too, but I found
some larger ones that bolted directly onto the wheel hub. That might be
an option. As for trailer theft, that's harder to address, although
there are tongue locks available.  I agree that the main obstacle is
storing and hauling the thing. Balin used to keep the trailer only
half-full, so that he could dangle the carrot of offering the trailer to
somebody who could pull it and needed more cargo space to schlep his/her
own stuff.

Firewalk is probably not going to be much of a problem--though it never
hurts to have  few extra eyes out there.  Primarily I need some help with
