There's always the little problem: "exact" color can be so dependent on lighting; 2 photos of the same model, & "color2" turned out closer to what I had in mind, natural light with no changes other than the angle...
In fact, I don't like the green in "color1" at all!

Hei,
I have always liked the best guess way - old colour samples change in time and looking at documents from the time I often see that they were more interested in cost and how long the paint/dope lasted than the exact colour.

Folks it is not that darned important to ¨KNOW¨ the exact colour is it????
We all sense color differently, as to dope finishes and color stability;
well just forget it. Let us just try to get what info we can find publish
it and stop bifurcating gnats eyelashes. Honestly we all know all it took
was on can of old dope mixed into whatever was being applied and no one
sweat-ed the difference. I know, I worked with old guys who were the
factory guys at Rearwin, Luscombe, Stinson-Piper.... nor did the fed. spec
paints on our beloved warbirds always match spec. straight off the line.
But we modeller folk have once again created a windmill to charge.
anyway, back to lurking..
