Well, I had asked Bob to pencil me in, and said that it would depend in large part on two things:
One: How I was doing financially (which a job could really help on!)
Two: If I found something to help with #1, if I could then get the necessary time off.
Although nothing is 100% certain yet, it looks very much like at least one of those is out of the way! (They do want me to take a drug test... Not that I ever do massive amounts of anything, and I've done nothing along those lines since Bob's birthday... but how long does that linger in your system? Wish me luck!) And one of the first things I will ask about will be if I can have a certain long weekend in February off. I can't see why it would be a problem, but you never know. And if I am told no, then oh well, have fun at Frostburn! But if I can get the time off, then woo hoo! I'll be freezing my arse along side the rest of ya! ^_^
Oopsie. i didn't check my social calendar first. I'm booked that Friday night, so I'm out. Have fun and take lots of pics.

excellent that's the way to jump in. Chaos and I have ours. And by the end of the week we will have for brave confirmed souls.
common I know there are more of you out there who want to come have fun in the snow make snow men (or women) and drink nice hot enhanced drinks.
Rv space is running out fast first ones to confirm they have bought tickets get the spots. Remember there are 3 double / queen and one midget bed. Don't be the one stuck in the 5.5' bed.

Yeah, sorry everyone- I meant to post publicly that I had reversed my decision on Frostburn and have decided to attend after all. I was considering attending another event, but the prospect of spending an awesome weekend burning in the winter intrigued me.
By the end of the week, we'll take this whole topic off-list to a separate list so we don't keep hammering this list with chatter about planning and attending.

Molly, Sorry you couldn't make it. Was looking forward to meeting you. There's plenty of crash space when you do get teh chance to come and hang. Bob, I'm still considering Frostburn. Just haven't talked myself into it. Stand by... Henry

I'm going to go ahead and purchase my ticket on Thursday. I'd like to ride down in the RV with you since i see no point in taking my own vehicle. I'd take a heated RV over cold tent any day. Let me know if there will be room for me or not so I can plan accordingly. Do I need to give you some money now in order to secure a spot or what? How was the party Saturday night? I tried to come over, but it started snowing pretty bad and I wasn't riding in a very snow safe vehicle. If you have time this week, give me a call. Ok I must have ESP the day after posting my inquiry to the list the frost burn tickets have gone on sale. Right now they are $35 on Jan 17th they jump to $50 and at the gate they will be $100.00 cash only. So ordering now is a good idea. I don't know how big it is or if ti will sell out. They have a cap of 2500 listed for the $35.00 tickets.
So It looks like we need to figure out who is serious who is possible and who is shaking their heads at us. Right now Besides me Chaos is into the idea, Matt is a possible depending on Job situation as time gets closer and Sally is interested if she is out of her study program by that weekend. And our new burner molly from NC appears to be a big YES. So thats 3 pretty defiant and 2 want to if the world allows so far. Chaos and I were talking about widding our search for camp mates a little bit if we don't get enough westernmass burners
interested.
So this one does have a little more expense to it so to be fair upfront here are the expected costs. We can work out the final details about when people want to leave and what they want to do and refine costs off list. We have a separate little mail list we use for camp planning I'll move everyone that expresses interest onto that list so we can plan.
So here are my thoughts on costs that I see upfront, nothing carved in stone but a place to start talking and planning.
1. $35.00 for ticket, your on your own for that, and I'd say if you are at all serious order one now. Burn tickets are usually easy to sell if your circumstances change.
2. the gas for the RV to get it there and back.
491 miles each way about 8.5 hour drive.
to compare to PDF that is 281 miles and take
6 - 8 hours depending on the city traffic. So time is similar but It looks like hartford is the only big city we go through though so the travel time will most likely be more true on this trip. Gas cost assuming 4 people in RV will be about $94 dollars each for those driving down. More or less depending on how many travel in the RV. I'm guessing it is fair that anyone that is going to sleep in the rv but meet us down there should still pay some sort of reduced cost towards the gas that moved the RV there.
3. propane for the RV heater and the shade structure if we bring that. Western mass burners has big costco one that can easily be adapted to handle a propane heater I own. figure about 40 gallons of propane at about 2.40 a gallon about $100.00
4. fire wood if we bring a burn barrel is being sold only at the camp grounds and needs to be preordered $30 per wheel barrel. They guess
about a wheel barrel a night for average fires. so figure at least 3 loads at $90.00. Wood can not be brought or removed from the site due to something called emerald ash borer Quarantine.
5. if we do anything like hot cider or hot chocolate spiked or not spiked we amy want to figure a little more for that stuff.
Food we usually all take care of on our own but if people are interested in simple group cooking or partial group cooking we can talk about that too.
So before any drinks / food etc and not including tickets we've got approx cost based on 4 people of about $150 per person.
The camp grounds have a heated bathroom and shower and a barn that will be used for entertainment. they have RV slots with and without electricity for theme camps to use.
for leaving and travel we have a few
options.
1. leave thursday early during the day sleep in the RV late thursday evening at a reststop near the event. or see if we can get permission to be on site thursday night. This give us the advantage of getting sleep and getting there when the event opens. IT does mean thur, fri and mon. off for some people though.
2. Leave late thursday night after work and arrive friday morning with little or no sleep. We can take turns driving and napping. this leaves us a little tired on friday for camp setup but saves us a day off.
3. Just leave friday morning early and arrive late afternoon. We loose most of friday and could arrive in the dark.
LEaving would be breaking down monday morning and getting home around8 - 9 pm most likely.
So that's the skinny so far. who thinks they can hack
it?

hey Molly,
Glad to here you think you can make it. I'm sure we can supply you a
place to crash if you make it up to the party. Ironically I don't
think the host of the party is actually on this list, he lives on
facebook. but I Believe he has crash space. and If not him I'm sure
others will. Worst case I've got a spare bed room but I have no idea
when I would be leaving and am about 45 minutes away. But one way or
the other we'll make sure you are set. Just bring a warm blanket or
comfy sleeping bag and you will be all set. Others in closer
communication with the host may be able to add more details.
Odd thing you email didn't seem to come through yahoo groups
correctly. I only saw it as a reply from Kevin. IT may be your
background graphics or something.

A funny thing happened at work today...I was inspired to check how much vacation time I had and was astonished to learn I had a week I needed to take before the year's end. So I can be there Saturday. Good times!

Hey all,
My name is Molly and I am new to this group. Briefly about myself, I live in RI and have just moved back here after 10 years from Charlotte, NC, where I left behind an amazing Burner community (perhaps you kno Big Puffy Yellow?) Anyways, I wanted to attend the meet n greet yesterday, since that was my only opp to meet you all until next month, but I started a new job and was unable to attend. However, I am very anxious to meet you all after leaving behind my NC burners. Hopefully I will be able to make it to the party on Saturday. With that being said, it will be a two hour drive for me and was wondering if there will be a place for me to crash? I might make it in late (around 11 or midnight) but will bring a big ass bottle of champagne for Sunday mimosas? What say ye?

Won't be able to make it tonight guys...my wifes grandfather passed away on monday and his funeral was today and he pretty much raised her and was one of her only family left so I need to be home with her tonight.

Hello Everyone!
I'm heading home for the holidays and am going to be in Western Mass on Monday, December 28th. I know it's a weird day but if anyone would like to grab drinks/ dinner I would love to see you guys. Lemme know :)
All are invited and yes, it is an insanely special occasion... I miss all those familiar faces.
Chaos- low key sounds right up my ally... I cannot wait to see you!
And Eric... don't you dare call me a left coaster. I'm right as rain :)

Frightening, Chaos, but that was the first thing that popped into my mind when I read Bob's, "I think I could be talked into it." Mind you, this does sound rather like a special occasion, so if he planned ahead I'm sure that he could either schedule his double for another day or find a staff member willing to have a few extra hours to help recover from the holiday spending. :)
Anyway, hello, Brandi! I'm sure you've no bloody clue whatsoever who I am. The name's Matt. Your name sounds vaguely familiar, so I feel as if I may have heard a tale or two in passing. Are people who haven't had the pleasure to make your acquaintance welcome, or would you prefer to keep it familiar faces? If the later then don't worry about saying so, I would completely understand. But if the former, I'd love the opportunity.

ah pesky job. I might just have to consider getting someone to cover for me, this would be a special holiday occasion after all.

We could keep it kinda casual/open-ended and say Sierra Grille bar area, perhaps, or the Dirty Truth. Just would have to pick a time.

So Chaos got me intriqued by this winter burn in Feb. it looks like
she can't make it but I'm still considering it if enough people are
brave enough to take the plunge for me to justify activating the Rv.
This burn takes place in Feb in Pennsylvania over the Valentines
president's day weekend Friday to Monday, 12 - 15. They allow Rv's and
you can even get electric hookup if you really wanted it.
This is a serious burn probably even more serious than the desert.
DEhydration is still a concern being outside in the dry cold
conditions and add to that the risk of hypothermia and frost bite.
That all said I think this could be a lot of fun. The people who went
last year really loved it.
The RV is pretty well insulated and with a little insulation on the
windows would ready for a winter trek. It has central heat which would
keep the worst of the chill off while sleeping (read still cold but
not frosty). The Rv can sleep 5 - 6 people with no problem it has 3
double / queen size beds. Of course anyone can be real crazy and
consider tent camping many will.
There is no official theme for this burn but unoffically its about
keeping warm. Camps seem do many things about supplying heat alcohol
or steam etc. I had a simple idea along those lines if we did go that
is keeping with our general camp themes.
We have the large shade structure with sides. IF part of the back wall
was replaced with a sheet of plywood and a 1 foot hole cut out of the
plywood for a propane heater I own we would have our very own heated
chill space cook area etc. I've got plenty of propane tanks from my
flame throwers to keep the heater going. Serve some hot cider add a
tarp to the floor some bankets and such and a we are set.
Because of the work and effort I'll only consider doing this if we get
at least 4 people onboard. given the off chance that more than 6 are
as crazy as me first come first serve for the RV slots. There is the a
kitchen table bed too so number could go to 7 if you are not over 5'5"
or so.
Here is a link to the burn page prices are not set yet for this year
but there is theme camp info and camp ground details plus stuff from
last year. Please if interest or questions speak up soon before I
smarten up.

Hi everyone! Don't forget to join us for this month's meet and greet-
as usual at the Northampton Brewery at 7PM. Look for the WMB logo
table tents in the bar area or familiar faces. Old grumpy burners and
burn curious equally welcomed!
Don't despair. We've done a bunch of Friday stuff, too. The meet&greet is inflexible since that is our major face-to-face outreach right now to coax the lurkers out of the shadows *cough.*
That being said, in the spirit of do-ocracy, if there's something going on that you think a bunch of burners should show up to, please pass it along to this list or post on our wall on our facebook page. Likewise, it bears to be stressed that everyone is always welcome to plan events, pass along invites to things going on that are burner-related or would suggest a great relationship to the burning man ethos.

As usual, whenever something cool and burner-related is happening, I'm working that night. Both Thursday AND Saturday.
Curses.
