Local Exchange and Trading Systems (LETSystems) are networks that trade goods and services using their own internal currency, and are often based aroung geographical areas. You can find out more about LETS systems from LETSlink UK.
To join West Lothian LETS, please fill in this application form and post to: LETS West Lothian, c/o Volunteer Centre, 36-40 Northridge Street , Bathgate, EH48 4PP. Once you have joined, a members pack including a directory and a cheque book will be sent to you — your own personal account will be opened and an invitation to the members section of the web site will be issued. Members pay £5 per year towards LETS funds (£3 for Pensioners/Unwaged). As a member you will receive regular newsletters, have full access to this web site and can post offers and wants, see the directory and keep an eye on the calendar.
How to Trade
In the members' directory you will find a list of people who offer goods or services. When you contact someone and agree to carry out work for them or vice versa, you also agree a rate for the job. Our LETS units are called Shales. 1 shale is roughly approximate to 1 sterling but a trade can also be in part Shales and part Cash. When the work is completed, members pay by writing a LETS cheque, which is sent to the Administrator, who adjusts both members' accounts.
