West - East Ham Vanishing Heritage
We are a part of "The West - East - Newham London Group", of groups, who wish to bring to public awareness, the plight of historic buildings in the present London Borough of Newham. As with many Councils, all "cash-strapped" due to the current financial climate, Newham has no resources to Compulsorily Purchase, and save these "Listed" buildings.
Several, such as Angel Cottage, Boleyne Castle, (Green Street House), and the French style "Pissoire", at the Connaught Tavern, (known colloquially as "The Iron Lung"), are gone forever, but the Borough has many other, equally old, and fine, listed buildings, such as the Olde Spotted Dog Inn, (Henry the VIIIths Hunting kennels), under threat, of a planning regrading, and potential demolition!
Added to those gone, are Ham House, The Olde Butchers Shop, and, The North Woolwich Old Station Museum.
Also at risk are: The Stock St, Repository, and Wanstead Flats!
