This group discusses the history, culture, politics and regional identity of the Wessex region. Whilst we recognise that there are many possible definitions of Wessex, for the purposes of this list, it is defined as the ancient or geographical counties of Devon, Dorset, Hampshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. These boundaries are non-negotiable for the purpose of discussions on this list, not because they are set in stone, but because there has previously been a lot of time wasted on fruitless and repetitive debates with people who want them changed. These can be found in the list archives, and there is little more that can possibly be said on the subject.

This list consolidates the separate lists that previously existed for Wessex Society, the Wessex Constitutional Convention and the Wessex Regionalist party. You do not have to be a member of any of these organisations to join the list, though it is aimed at those who are broadly sympathetic with their aims. Constructive criticism of these organisations is welcome, but outright attacks will be viewed as trolling, and could result in loss of posting privileges, or even expulsion from the list, depending on their severity and persistence.

Apologies if any of this seems hard-line, but these restrictions became necessary due to the acrimonious atmosphere that had arisen on the list. We hope that you will enjoy the discussion in spite - or perhaps because - of the restrictions.
