What now for Vanunu – further imprisonment, or continual threats
thereof? After 20 years incarceration, 11 of which spent in solitary
confinement – just for telling the rest of us that Israel has
nuclear weapons.   More than two years after his release, he is
again waiting on an appeal, (September 9th) to see if he has to
return to jail for another 6 months, for being within breach of the
imposed restrictions of his movements.

My latest take on the situation or Blair, to watch England vs Israel
at home with Mordechai Vanunu?

Just what is he playing at? He don't call for 10 years, what does he
hope to achieve by `gate-crashing' in on him now?

Following his most recent sentence, Vanunu commented that his
conviction proved that Israel was still ruled, in effect, by the
British mandate, because the law under which he was convicted is
from that era. "Maybe I need to turn to the queen or to Tony Blair
in order to grant me justice," he said.

Ironic then that only last week, Tony Blair flew into Vanunu's
hometown as a prospective future neighbour. Israeli sponsored Blair,
traveling to Jerusalem as envoy to the, the UN, the EU, America and
Russia, is said to fancy the one-time residence of the British High
Commissioner for Palestine as a base for his new role. This house,
once the pride of British diplomacy, was taken over by the UN after
the British Mandate ended in 1948. So, the British mandate ends, the
UN get houses, who gets the law?

Hey presto! Tony Blair, he's a lawyer? Why doesn't our Tony try and
sort out some little issues for once, like a horse has a pre-Big
Race confidence booster before it steps into the breach, I'm sure
he'd be welcomed with open arms at Vanunu's, if he needed somewhere
to watch the England vs Israel match (the day before his hearing)?
Reports coming in suggest there has been a girt sigh of relief from
the Israeli Security Services, saying that to have two such high
category risks in one place at one time may present a little light
relief for their hard pressed officers, who in turn suggested that
they wouldn't be up for it, unless the two former Nobel Peace Prize
nominees laid on a giant screen, so that they could all watch the
game.

One of my MEP's says it is an internal matter for the Israelis,
another says he'll take it up with the EU but doesn't the recourse
to the British mandate bring the onus back to us to help his cause?
Isn't there a discrepancy within the Israeli Judicial system that
needs reform? The EU & Amnesty International have both criticized
Israel for their treatment of Vanunu.

One of his supporters, Rayna Moss, noted – after of one of his
recent trials - "The over-eagerness of the prosecution in this case
(after it was brought forward) indicates that the judicial system is
being prodded by a vindictive security establishment and that his is
a blatant attempt to avoid any public discussion of the use of the
1945 Emergency Regulations against Israeli citizens."

While doing as members of CND requested and hastling my MP (

government to lift all restrictions on Mordechai Vanunu and allow
him the freedom to travel, I visited the 10 Downing Street petition
site to find that there is one for Vanunu and although the number of
signatures has gone from 13 to 453 this last week – I've no doubt
that you, like me, would like to see his petition higher up the
list – we would need in excess of 14,000 to get him in the Top 10.
Could you and your groups sign http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Free-
Vanunu/ and bandy it about a bit to help raise awareness of his
plight – a modern day Galileo or what? The only proviso on this site
is that you have to be a UK resident. Maybe if you don't reside in
the UK you could press for a similar campaign in your country,
especially if you live in Israel or the US.

Mordechai Vanunu? He seems a bit skint to me – keeps asking for
money etc. Why not give him a job as a Peace Envoy? His

he'd make a better job of it than say Tony Blair, for example.
Anyway, here's to his immediate release from all restrictions or a
continued and growing protest until so.

We demand that the British government oppose and condemn any form of
military confrontation with Iran.
The US sabre-rattling over Iran is not only serious and disturbing,
but also has uncanny resonance with the lead-up to the Iraq war.
The dossier prepared by the US on Iran's supposed involvement in
destabilising Iraq is based on the same imaginary foundations and
presumptions as the WMD dossier. The reality in Iraq is complex and
evidence shows that the majority of foreign insurgents captured or
found dead are Saudis.
What does remain clear is that the Iraqi civilian death toll has
reached 600,000, with January recording the highest number of
civilian deaths since the invasion in 2003.
As highlighted in a major report launched this week, any attack on
Iran would export this misery and disaster on the Iranian people and
have economic, environmental and security repercussions worldwide.
