Description

The Women's Caucus for Art was founded in 1972 in connection with the College Art Association (CAA). It is a national organization unique in its multi-disciplinary, multicultural membership of artists, art historians, students /educators, museum professionals and galleries in the visual arts. The role of WCA is to serve as an intersection for both market and historical forces with its emphasis being on women working in the visual arts professions today. WCA is a national network that is involved in research, exhibitions, conferences and honor awards for achievement. The WCA archives are housed at Rutgers University.
On the local level, STL-WCA organizes 3-4 exhibitions a year; organizes the biannual national Contemporary Women Artists Exhibition; participates in local events that enact awareness and change in the community; holds monthly networking meetings; sponsors lectures by women artists; sponsors 'girls nights out': evenings of art and conversation; produces a newsletter and manages a website so local women artists can list their upcoming exhibitions, papersand link their web-site.
On the national level, you are empowered by a network of over 1600 women who represent a diverse yet strong presence. The national offers scholarship opportunities for students; grants for women artists; a system of networking that extends coast to coast and exhibition opportunities. Through the Matrix project, WCA provides insight into national galleries and representation. They offer subcommittees that focus on specific group concerns. WCA keeps an active member database. They sponsor an annual conference that focuses on art and women in the arts. WCA works to support legislation that supports the rights of women, as well, as the rights of all people.
