This week and last week, extensive logging of pines and hardwood is
taking place, just out of view to motorists of the Waterwood
Parkway. Jacinto Investments stands to eventually reap over $2
million by over-logging (not selectively logging as they had
originally stated) all of the vacated Deer Creek subdivisions and
vacated Greentree Villages 1 and 3 subdivisions. To see photos, click
on photo folder titled "Logging in Greentree Village 3" at

Next week, Greentree Village 1 pictures will be posted in another
photo album. Viewers will see that Greentree Village 1 has fared much
better than Greentree Village 3 in retaining its piney woods
environment, primarily because nearly 25 percent of Greentree Village
1 is composed of lots owned by the Natural Area Preservation
Association (a land trust) and individual owners who have refused to
sell their lots to Jacinto Investments and other timber investors.
The pictures show some soil erosion during logging operations in
Greentree Village 3 because the weather during the past two weeks has
been rainy. Conscientious foresters will curtail logging in
extremely wet conditions in order to reduce soil damage and protect
the soil structure for replanting. But, if replanting isn't a
priority and if logging must continue despite rain, soil damage can
be minimized by requesting the logging trucks to centralize their
operations on a few logging tracks rather than having free rein in
the area (a practice not evident in Greentree Village 3). One
picture shows a good stand of trees in the background – those trees
were saved due to WIA's agreement with Jacinto Investments to leave a
150-foot strip of trees on the west side of the Parkway, creating an
illusionary forest for Waterwood Parkway motorists.
It is unknown when Greentree Villages 2, 4, 5 and 9, other
undeveloped subdivisions along the Parkway, will be cancelled by
Jacinto Investments (which is a prerequisite for future logging).
