I bought a new hammer drill and a couple of carbide masonry bits. I attempted to drill some test holes in limestone, but quickly wore the bits to dull knobs....

You might try drilling a pilot hole first with a 1/8" drill bit and then use a larger bit to make the final hole. Or limestone might need a hollow core ...
