Thanks, George. Reading the reviews of the paintball tank/nail gun regulator, it
seems some people had reliability problems. I'm considering something like this:

Off-road truck enthusiasts use them to inflate their (large) tires after
temporarily lowering the pressure for increased traction. I and get a 5 lb CO2
tank for about $60, and an air chuck, hose, and gauge (to avoid
over-pressurizing my rockets) for about $20, giving me an ample, easily portable
air supply for less than the price of a mid-size compressor.
