Energy security is rapidly becoming a major concern for citizens of both developed and developing countries.

We have grown totally dependent on low cost oil and gas for our everyday lives.

As increased pressure is put on the remaining reserves, prices are rising inexorably, and alternatives must be sought.

This requires a change of lifestyle for the 21st Century.

Wastewatts is a technology discussion forum that looks at ways in which we might change our fossil fuel dependent lifestyles, off-setting petroleum with renewable fuels or those derived from industrial or agricultural waste.

The photo shows a Lister CS 6 hp diesel engine running on waste vegetable oil and powering a 3kW generator. The waste heat from the coolant and exhaust is used to heat an average sized home.

We need to seek alternatives to fossil fuels and promote widescale adoption of renewable, carbon neutral alternatives such as waste vegetable oil or wood gas.

Through the use of wood, woodchips and charcoal for sustainable home heating and to fuel small scale industry, such as metal foundry work, blacksmithing or other traditional cottage industries, this could restart small scale, manufacturing from home workshops and develop new local economies, less reliant on transport/commuting lifestyles.

Wastewatts seeks practical energy alternatives which reduce energy consumption in the home and at work, saving both fossil fuels and electricity. This requires energy conversion of waste material using the following technologies:

1. Combined Heat and Power using diesel engines fueled with waste vegetable oil.

2. Gasification of woodchips for dual fueling diesel engines using waste vegetable oil WVO.

3. Babington/Turk burners for heating with WVO

4. Converting vehicles to run on WVO.

5. External combustion engines - Stirling and steam engines.

6. Solar PV, wind power and CHP integrated together to make a home renewable energy system
