When the Warrior Poets Society was first founded, we were just a bunch of Earth First! poets sitting around talking. Shortly we had a newsletter, to continue the conversation. After awhile it became too much work and too expensive to put out a newsletter, and conversation ceased--except for yearly meetings at Rendezvous and letters (usually with poems attached) to the Warrior Poets address in the Journal. So--how to renew the Conversation, and keep it going? This is where the Warrior Poets Society listserve comes in.

Because there are many listserves covering other topics but only one warrior poets listserve, we ask that you use it

to post EF!-style poems
comments on poems
comments on warrior poetry or poetry in general
news concerning poetry--events, readings, books, articles, poems
reviews of new books of poetry--anthologies or by individual poets
comments on the poetry explosion--cultural events like poetry slams
reviews of relevant poetry/spoken word CDs
etc.

These are just a few of the ideas. I see this listserve as being a vibrant electronic magazine where we go sideways (through the culture) and up and down (through time) making connections with other poets/poems that speak for the Other, give voice to the Voiceless--rocks, trees, birds, soil, water, the planet, the galaxy.

Notice I've used "Earth First!-style" and "Warrior" poetry as synonyms. That was deliberate. Poems with scientific, eco-spiritual, nature-descriptive, eco-political, and similar content are what I view as appropriate for this list. I also view this list as a constructive forum and an intelligent one--so if you bash, or if you parrot some popular position, be prepared to defend your views. En garde!
