First of all sorry about the spammers. Hope I got that fixed now. Secondly I
continue to toil on the 'ol compilation project. For the record test readers are
a royal pain. I am working on some more original stories to replace previous
ones as they felt similar themes were explored in some of the stories and my fav
was deemed entirely to dark so I'm working on rewriting that one as well. I'll
get this done someday I'm sure. Grrr....
I am talking with a buddy of mine that does stand up who wants to do some form
of video project. Probably for youTube or something of the like. We are tossing
around a few ideas hopefully I'll have something to report soon! For info on him
and a vid of him doing his stand up head here...

***Warning more than likely this contains some spoilers***
Well may I start off by saying that I always have been a huge fan of
westerns. My grandfather and I would watch John Wayne movies for days
straight whenever I visited and ever since then I check out just
about every Western that i can get my greedy little hands on. The
problem has been that Westerns went out with Silverado. Even whent
they try them lately like the big name, and coincidentally excellent,
3:10 to Yuma they struggle at the box office. So what was once
America's only original type of cinema and the one time savior of the
film industry has been reduced to straight to video (Renagade etc.),
or high profile films that wander out to minor theatrical runs
(Seraphim Falls etc.) To the former category we add the Casper Van
Dien actioneer Aces N' Eights. The results in Straight to DVD
westerns has not been good to say the least. They have been plainly
awful (Ghost Rock & Renegade), or merely passable fare (Miracle at
Sage Creek & Avenging Angel). Which category does this one fall into
you may ask, well neither really...
The film starts out with a group of hired guns led by the vicious
Tate (Jeff Kober) running a group of people, in Texas, in typical
violent Western fashion. This was pretty much the last straw for Luke
Rivers (Casper Van Dien) who rides off in search of a better life.
The story picks up 3 years later in the Arizona Territory.
As is the case in many westerns a greedy landgrabber Mr. Howard
(William Atherton) is keen on buying, or stealing all the parcels of
land in the path of the railroad. To accomplish this goal he has
hired the aforementioned Tate to deal with some of the more stubborn
landowners. The foremost of these landowners being Thurmond Prescott,
the amazingly still grinning and spry as ever Ernest Borgnine who
has, conveniently enough, taken in Luke. Further compounding Mr.
Howard's attempts to grab the land by any means necessary is the
arrival of of Jess Riley (Jack Noseworthy) a lawyer from Chicago who
has the audacity to actually seek a peaceful resolution to the
current crisis, but since when has that made a good western?
Therefore, Tate brings on another gunslinger DC Cracker (Bruce
Boxleitner) a very mysterious is he or isn't he a bad guy character.
Together they attempt to run off the landowner's behind Mr. Riley's
back.
***Spoilers***
As one can probably guess the gunslinger's manage to gun down Mr.
Prescott, and the reformed Luke is forced to strap on his guns once
again as the film builds to a pretty dang impressive showdown between
the railroad men and Rivers. This film isn't without share of
problems the scenes with the landowner's getting gunned down at times
seemed a little redundant and Luke's relationship with the local
schoolmarm Jo Tanner (Deidre Quinn) is very underdevoloped. the film
clocks in at a brisk 87 minutes and it would've been nice to see them
take an extra half hour to flesh some of the relationships out, but
don't let that deter you as the script, from Pale Rider scribe Dennis
Shryack and fist timer Ronald M. Cohen really picks up more and more
momentum as it goes. Veteren TV project vet Craig R. Baxley (Action
Jackson & half the Stephen King miniseries ever made) handles the
project with a very steady and at times stylish hand. He really
accomplishes more than one would think possible on a three and half
week shoot. What further propels this film forward is the cast Casper
Van Dien has never been better as the grizzled gunhand, Ernest
Borgnine is simply unbelievable as his eyes twinkle, he rides
horseback with a shotgun, and still looks menacing and he was born in
1917! Jeff Kober oozes menace as Tate, Bruce Boxleitner nearly steals
the show (he would have if every one else hadn't been so good as
well) as the aging gunslinger. Jack Noseworthy looks and nails his
role as the good guy lawyer and Deidre Quinn did very well with what
she was given. When all is said and done this is a rip-roaring
Western like they used to make and is by far and wide an extreme
overachiever in the straight to DVD realm. The last frame felt like a
bit of a cop out, but still if you are a fan of Westerns, action, or
just good old fun in the movies don't let anything stop you from
seeing Aces N' Eights...

Well I spent quite a while creating a new logo featuring myself and
partner in crime William, but am having troubles getting the dang thing
loaded up here. I also have some alternate versions of the original B&W
logo. I got them to work on my myspace page so if you use that site and
you get time please check them out at http://www.myspace.com/wampadan
in the Logos folder of my Pics and let me know which ones work for you.
Thanks,

Well I sent out some rough drafts and plot outlines, etc. to a group of
test readers and I got a rather interesting response. They thought they
were to dark and felt a lighter story needed to be included. They might
just be right. So here's what is happening. The rough drafts of "The
Perfect Robbery" and "Under the Floor" are done I just have to re-read
and do some cleanup work. I am still hammering out the rough draft
of "Fairy Tale" and working on the re-write of the rough draft
of "Humanity". Now I will drop "Welcome to Sutter's Falls" in favor of
a new story I'm writing with a slightly more lighthearted tone. Man,
this is turning into a frustrating and exhausting procss, but hopefully
it'll all be worth it right?
Thanks for sticking through it all,
Humbly Yours,
Wampa Dan :F-D)
Well here we go again the whole film rumor thing. Ever since that
studio requested the Perfect Robbery about 5 years ago, but never
made it and then the two botched indie films it seems we're always
trying to film something. While writing Humanity for the upcoming
Tales from the Ice Cave some of my test readers pointed out that it
would be possible to make this for almost nothing with a few minor
changes. I have to say that they might just be right. I've been
checking out various equipment and possible props online and it seems
like we could make this for around $2000. So I'm rewrtiting what I
had (in story form for the aforementioned Ice Cave, man I gotta
finish that) then I'm going to bounce it off William to see if we
could come up with some suitable locations. If we can nail some
locations down I'll start working on the script and we'll start
talking to potential cast and crew. If all goes well from there we
could be shooting in about a year. I'll keep you updated, keep your
fingers crossed...
Humbly Yours,
Wampa Dan :F-D)
Well in case anyone is interested Decipher makers of the CCGs for
Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars, until Wizards of the
Coast stole Wars and turned it into a horrible dice game, are putting
out a Card Game that will cross several different films allowing you
to finally find out who'd win some of those hypothetical fights. The
game is called Fight Klub The preview card is Mr. Blonde of Reservoir
Dogs fame. They are also doing some rather original stuff as far as
CCGs go. Anyways it's worth a look if you are a rabid movie fan like
I am. Time remains to apply to become a founding member just visit
www.decipher.com.
I have updated the review and link sections. I removed the broken
links and added some new ones. Check 'em out.
I destroyed our friendly spammer, die, spammer, die...
The work on "Tales" continues to be exhausting. The latest problem
being the people I bounced the ending for Fairy Tale off of were
reeeeeally negative about it. I won't say much more than that 'cuz
I'd hate to spoil, but I will complete these stories ASAP I promise.
This is a much bigger project than I had originally envisioned, but
that may be a good thing, but until then I thought I'd give you some
info about my stories...
Fairy Tale- This is exactly what the title suggests. A kindly
grandmother tells her grandchildren the fairy tale of why the wind
howls at night which tells the tale of a young couple's escape across
a very dangerous fairy tale kingdom.
Humanity- An alien virus has taken over most the Earth's population
and one of the last remaining groups of humans struggle just to
survive deep in hostile territory.
Welcome to Sutter's Falls- Inan apocolyptic future a man oversees a
project that would open a tear in the fabric of space time in an
attempt to change events that lead to Earth's downfall.
The Perfect Robbery- A group of friends heist and subsequent flight
for the border hits a rather unusual snag and they will have to fight
to stay alive.
Under the Floor- A group of friends literally are threatened to be
torn apart when trapped in a cabin during a blizzard while holding a
vigil for a friend who died under rather mysterious circumstances.
and don't forget about our 2 member submitted stories.
Hopes this keeps you curious...
Humbly Yours,
Wampa Dan :F-D)
Progress continues on the 'ol compilation novel. Two of the stories
continue to grow faaaaaaaar beyond my original intended length and will
probably take up the bulk of the book. The final included stories are
Fairy Tale, Humanity (the new one I've been working on), Welcome to
Sutter's Falls, The Perfect Robbery, Under the Floor, and our 2 member
submitted stories. I have been pouring through poetry to match to the
stories and will be sending some of to my co-manager for his opinion.
This is our first attempt at a project of this magnitude so please bear
with us here. I'll post some teaser details of the stories soon.
Hopefully he'll help speed things up by writing some stuff himself,
helping read submissions etc., and most importantly he's got a little
time on his hands which I rarely do. :p So say hi he goes by the handle
deodianoga.
Humbly Yours,
Wampa Dan :F-D)
This project has become really my own personal nightmare. With
working 7 days a week, my buddy getting shot, and getting almost no
help from my primary collaborator it has been an absolutely
exhausting project. I guess I didn't really grasp the scope of the
project when i started, but I'm stumbling towards the finish line.
This might be delayed a couple months 'til Christmas time, but it
will get done. I have done some slight shuffling of the line up. It
will still include our two submission winners as well as 5 stories by
myself including a brand new one I just started writing. The reason
for the shake up is several stories went on MUCH longer than I
thought they would and I think I can get at least 3 volumes worth out
of the available material if I position them correctly. So if you
didn't get your submission in, or even if you did, keep writing
they'll be another chance. The final line-up is shaky though. Right
now the new story (no title yet), Fairy Tale and Welcome to Sutter's
Falls are absolute definates. Most likely the other two will be Under
the Floor and The Perfect Robbery, although I keep flirting with
putting Playing the Devil in there. It really depends on how well I
feel the stories flow together. Each story will get an accompanying
poem that matches the overall feel/ideas of the story, which I am
still pouring through from multiple sources, as well as trying to
write some on my own. Anyways after all that is completed and my
wrists fall off from typing to much. I'll send out for the copyright
and start pursuing publishing options. You should see one complete
story, free of charge of course, no later than Christmas Day.
Thanks for your continued support,
We've come along way from the days of writing fan fiction haven't we?

In God We Trust
Good Luck
For Tales From the Ice Cave: Volume 1. I have been talking to a
friend of mine who writes poetry and I'll be pouring through several
notebooks to see if it is at all possible to find one to pair with
each story as a lead in, or closing thought. I thought it could be an
interesting addition, but we'll have to see how it effects the flow.
Reading over some of the stories I and my main cohort have discussed
putting both Under the Floor and an older screenplay (the first I
ever did) The Perfect Robbery into short story form and including
them. They really seem to fit the mood I was going for with these
stories, and it also fills out the original target I had for there
being 13 stories. That means more work for me, but hey. The goal is
to have this all done by the end of September so we can post
something up by Halloween. That may be stretching, but I think I can
make it. I have not finalized the order the stories will appear, but
they are as follows. I'll come out with synopsis soon so stay tuned!
1.) Under the Floor
2.) The Perfect Robbery
3.) Fairy Tale
4.) Playing the Devil
5.) Welcome to Sutter's Falls
6.) Moving Backwards
7.) The Demon on the Doorstep
8.) Beyond the Closed Door
9.) The 11:47
10.) The End with Love
11.) Watching the World
As well as the winning reader submissions...
12.) Radius Clear
13.) The Tree and the Promise
Humbly Yours,
-Wampa Dan :F-D)
1.) Yes, you will retain the rights to your individual submissions.
2.) No, it does not cost a thing I'll handle the copyright fees.
3.) If you have a story that isn't completed yet just let me know. It
will be taking awhile for us to select/finish stories and decide on
the proper order for them within the compilation. SO if you let me
know that you are working on something we can hold for awhile. Heck,
you could start writing now.
4.) All stories may be in either story or screenplay form. Remember
short stories so no sending 500 page epic novels... We're thinking
more along the lines of 5-30 pages, but they can be shorter/longer.
5.) The genre we are going for is Science Fiction/Fantasy? or Horror
remember we ARE copyrighting so all stories should be your own
original material. All fan fictions may be posted without submission
in the files section, as always.
6.) I have a group reviewing all submissions so it is not my decision
alone that will decide if yours will be included. If you wish to
participate in reviewing stories drop me a line at
neowampa@...
7.) We will be posting the entire compilation after we recieve the
copyright all authors will recieve a copy of the copyright and a
letter confirming their ownership of their individual stories. In
case you've never done it before that'll be about 6 months after
completion.
8.) Once we have all the stories we are going to use and send out for
the copyright the best story selected by the group will be posted as
a sort of Teaser.
Thanks for all the interest, Best of Luck to all...
Humbly Yours,
Wampa Dan :F-D)
