Hi all! We wanted to tell you about our recent fun experiences walking in
Minnesota. We went to visit some of my relatives for a week, and thoroughly
enjoyed ourselves.
The MN clubs have a couple of neat programs that we enjoyed participating in.
Thanks to Dick and Barbara Baker, we heard about the "Looney Perks" program that
the Twin City VS Club is putting on. They have a neat book where you can stamp
any amount of their YRE walks, and if you do a certain amount, you get a prize.
For instance 10-14 walks give you a "free" YRE walk, and 15 gives you an event
book. We did about 16 of their walks, and put them in our Looney books. (We
are a little looney when it comes to walking, so...) The walks were all well
laid out, and there are some beautiful trails. You can get some waterfalls in
if you are doing the AVA book for that (as well as other things, like a
lighthouse on the Mississippi River and some historic churches and firehouses
and museums).
The other program is "Walk MN Counties", and there are a bunch of them! Bonnie
Johnson is featuring some walks in less traveled counties each year, so that
people can pick them up. There are 60 some counties in MN, so we will have to
go back a few more times, but we did 13 counties during this week!
Anyway, if you enjoy walking, MN is a great place to walk, and we also did some
biking. We really enjoy the Lake Woebegone bike trail around Albany, MN.
Check it out, if you get a chance!
