The Gertrude Tompkins Expedition -- The search for the last missing WASP (Womens Airforce Service Pilot) of W.W.II
Gertrude "Tommy" Tompkins Departed from Los Angeles Municipal Airport on Oct 26, 1944 in a factory new North American P51D fighter bound for the European theater. The first intended stop was Palm Springs, CA but the P51 and Gertrude never arrived. It is presumed that she crashed into Santa Monica bay shortly after takeoff.
This website is dedicated to the memory of Gertrude Tompkins and the on-going search for the missing airplane.
