I got the USB cable and the software, but no luck. As far as I get is
the screen with the empty database sheet. I tried to do a 'get from
radio' and no luck. The cable came with software, which I downloaded.
The only thing I can think of is that there may be a comport conflict.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Subject: [vx-150] rapid charger problem
I hadn't used my rapid charger for my 150 in a while and I put the
radio in it yesterday to charge and the red charge light wouldn't come
on. It was plugged in and I tried several outlets. After pulling the
adapter plug out almost to the end, I was able to get the light to come
on and the radio to charge.
Does anybody have an idea why this would happen? The charger has been
plugged in for a while, but not used.
Thanks

I recently tried to sell this radio at a local swap and with all the
odds and ends I had for sale some idiot stole the battery and charger
for this radio. Why steal the battery and charger and not the
radio?????? I don't know. So I am selling the radio, antenna,
beltclip, box, and manual. I know the radio works great and it is only
3 months old. I am asking $60 plus $5 for shipping. Please email me if
interested, thank you.

You don't need to save it in a memory channel; but if you don't, it won't be
permanent. I'm not sure if that's what you mean by "take."
I use tone squelch from time to time and don't store it in memory, and it
works, as long as I'm on that VFO (A or B). It stays enabled (on that VFO)
until I turn it off.
> Any ideas? Thanks.
Read the manual more carefully. Or tell us what you did and what didn't
work.
Andy
You have to resave the memory channel with the Tone Squelch then it will take.

Set the scan resume to BUSY and it should stay on the stopped channel until the
carrier drops.

Lorin,
Here is the one I use: http://www.ttl2usb.com/ add to that the software
from Bob G4HFQ http://www.g4hfq.co.uk/ and you have a complete package
for USB and it's cheap to pick up the software for any of the other
Yeast's.
All the best,

If the charger light changes when it's charged, then the charger MUST have
some smarts. It would be stupid for the charger to have the means to figure
out when the battery is fully charged, but not stop charging. (But I don't
know that particular charger.)
The wall-wart charger that comes with the radio does have a restriction that
it doesn't work well to TRANSMIT when plugged in, but it is fine for receive
(I do that all the time). The reason is that the wall-wart isn't regulated
and doesn't supply enough current for transmit, so the voltage sags down to
the battery voltage when you transmit, and has lots of ripple which
modulates the RF. No such problem during receive.
I thought the desktop charger was supposed to have enough current
capaibility to handle transmit too, but again, I don't know it that well.
Andy
I'm not sure about your question but I would think its a smart charger of
sorts. I alsobeleive the manual says not to have the radio on when you are
charing it or try and use it in the charger..

Subject: [vx-150] New VX-150 Battery/Charger
I just received my
VX-150 with the new 1400 MAh nickel-metal hydride battery. This radio came
with the CD-30 Charging Stand,
with PA-38 AC Adapter. When the radio˘s
battery needs charging, I place the radio in the stand and the Charging
Stand
light turns on Red. After the battery
is charged, the light changes to Green.
Question: Is this CD-30/PA-38 combination a Smart
Charger; i.e. does the charge rate drop when the battery is fully charged or
does the charge rate continue so that overcharging the battery is possible
if
not disconnected?

I have been looking for software that will allow me to enter data into
a program then sync or upload the data to my VX-150. Is this software
still available? If so, where can I find it along with the cable
necessary for such.
Thanks!

Hello all, I just replaced the final in 2 of my VX-150 HTs. I knew
one was bad, but the other actually worked pretty good. Once I
checked the power output I found it to be only 200 to 300 mW - just
driver power I expect. The first one had almost zero power output.
I think the difference was #1 had the final blown open, and #2 blown
closed - similar to putting the jumper wire around the removed final.
There are photos in the file section posted in a zip file named *VX-
150 inside* - these photos show the PCB from the back and front
side. These are by Razvan YO9HBM - thank you Razvan.
The trick to replacing the final is the PCB must be completely
removed from the case and worked from back side. Once the board is
removed it becomes clear. Then a simple replacement is all it takes.
The replacement FET can be ordered from RF Parts at $24.95 - since
the min order is $25 more must be ordered. Shipping is now $10 for
the min order making the total cost of a final $35 at min - more
likely the $45 my last final cost because I ordered something I
didn't really need, but $9 put it over the $25 min.
It takes about an hour to do the final replacement - working slow. I
expect a repair shop will charge an hour's labor. That makes the
total repair cost almost $100 - which is why the repair shop
says "throw it away and buy a new radio".

I looked up the owner's manual for the commercial model with the same battery.
It suggested 13 hours of charge time with the wallwart charger. I've followed
that suggestion and its given me a full charge every time.

Overnight works pretty well. That is a really vague recommendation.

The problem with the fully charged voltage, is it depends how long you wait
after you stop charging. The voltage drops by maybe half a volt over the
first few hours of non-use. I find that a fully charged battery shows 8.2
to 8.4 volts when first unplugged from the charger. I realize it could be
that the battery was slightly over-charged, since it is a dumb charger and I
just left it charging overnight.
Andy
[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
that the only way you can tell by look at the volt on the battery i seen go
far as 8.0 i think it drop round 6.7 or somewhere down the line. The book
won't tell you how long to charge ,you will have to check the voltages !
hope that helps
