"VirginiaPrisoners" is sponsored by Virginia C.U.R.E., a 501(c)(3) (nonprofit), statewide organization. C.U.R.E. members create a collective force to bring positiive attention to issues relating to prisoners and the families impacted by the criminal justice system. Parole for eligible and appropriate people who were sentenced before January 1, 1995, successful reentry, and fair and equitable treatment for prisoners and their families are special goals. Virginia C.U.R.E. is staffed by volunteers and is a chapter of International CURE, headquartered in Washington, D.C.

We focus on:
• Family and community ties during incarceration
• Support for prisoners and their family members
• Prison and community treatment and educational programs
• Fairness in sentencing and use of alternatives to incarceration
• Prison jobs and job training leading to employable skills
• Policies that encourage prison visits
• Free flow of letters and publications to and from prisoners
• Fair and equitable telephone charges from prisoners
• Elimination of commission (rebate) to the state treasury from telecommunications contractor
• Parole for eligible offenders who are prepared for release
• Transition/reentry assistance for all ex-offenders (housing, employment, health)
• Restoration of voting rights for ex-felons
• Oppose supermax prisons
• Oppose excessive use of force against prisoners using inhumane restraints and weapons
• Support moritorium on the death penalty
• Competent legal representation for all persons charged with a crime
• Restorative justice practices for all offenses
