Description

This group was founded by Joe Maurath, Jr. with the purpose of preserving, educating, identifying, collecting and giving recognition to period and vintage street lights that have all but disappeared from the American landscape.

Joe has been an enthusiast, collector and researcher of vintage street lights since the 1960s. He has enjoyed accumulating a sizable collection of incandescent and mercury streetlighting fixtures and their accessories, including catalogs, technical manuals, books and other written material about the subject. His intention is to share all of his knowledge and experience within this group so all will learn and enjoy!

This site is devoted to early gas and electric arc lights, incandescent, mercury vapor and earlier low pressure sodium streetlights; their light sources and related accessories employed not only in the United States, but worldwide. Such accessories include lamps, photoelectric lighting controls, poles, etc. High pressure sodium and metal halide discussion is also welcome however the intent here is for that to be of a historical nature; pre-1980.

Joe also has been a collector and researcher of glass and porcelain insulators since the early 1960s. This group's Photo Album includes hundreds of old-time authentic street scene photos. Supplemented are many more images depicting line construction of earlier years, real photographs of linemen, etc.

Another intent of this group is to be a "crossroads" and exchange forum for vintage streetlight fixtures, accessories and parts. "Want Lists" of desired and for sale/trade related items available are also most welcome!

Your membership is much appreciated! This is an ongoing site that features enthusiastic discussion pertaining to vintage streetlights and a meeting place where new friends with similar interests have been and are continually formed.

Thank you for visiting!
