this is from some one that lives out there.

Oh yeah....there was alot of discussion about this back and
forth....although the parks department will let the event be held
again...and there was not 4500 people there and I just love the "underground
network" part...yadda yadda yadda

As I recall from seeing this story somewhere (the Rialto?), the main issues were
the event
organizers pulled a permit for 300 or so people and more than 1000 showed up.
They didn't have
what the county felt were adequate sanitary facilities or somesuch, and the
permit area was "too
crowded". Given that this was a major war event (I think) between AnTir & the
West, the event
organizers could be taken to task for not being realistic in their permit
attendance estimate, on
the other hand they just could have been the innocent victims of the
overpopulation of SCA events
these days.

I also cringed when I saw the posting.

I do hate journalism like this AP story. What was the nature of the
complaint? That the park was closed to other people? That a very
interesting event wasn't open to the public? That it was noisy? That
neighborhood children were spying on what was going on and suddenly
developed an interest in medieval history and literature?

A blurb like this hits the papers with varying degrees of completeness and
ends up making an organization look bad without even telling the whole
story. It's typical journalistic practice to write a story so it can be
trimmed to fit a column. Unfortunately not every reader is bright enough to
realize they aren't getting the whole story.

So does anyone have the full version of the story explaining the nature of
the complaints?

Bribe is an ugly word. I prefer to think of it as gratitude in advance.

For those not already scheduled to be at Pennsic, this Sunday is your
last chance to show up to a practice. The last practice before
Pennsic. The last practice before the post Pennsic burn out. (Never,
not this group) The last practice to get stuff from me or the armor
closet.

If dancers want to show up, we would love to dance. However, our usual
boombox will not be there. (As a side note, I will not be middle
eastern dancing. I ducked out of class early to cook. That's my
excuse I'm sticking to it. But the classes made the event very cool!)

Ida Noyes hall will only be open till about 3pm. After that we still
have limited facilities (port o jon and water fountain), but consider
yourself warned.

I look forward to dancing, fighting, socializing, working on that last
minute Pennsic project with y'all on Sunday!! Call me if you have any
questions.

Contrary to what we had thought, we will be able to do Pennsic
Authorizations at Three from the Tree this coming weekend near Chicago.
They will be done early Saturday (between 9-10am) and Countess Sir Fern
will be marshalling (and she promises to be tough on you!!). If you
need more info on the event, go to
http://www.angelfire.com/il/3fromtree/
(yes it still reports on the website that there are no Pennsic auths,
but there are)

First, let me apologize to any and all who will recieve this more than
once.... I wanted to get the word out as far as possible.

There will be a Middle-Eastern dance and drum practice at the Ayreton
combined fighter practice in Grey Gargoyles (South Chicago) on Sunday,
July 25. As with all of our practices, this one is open to dancers and
drummers of all levels. We love to teach beginners and can always use
the expertise of more advanced persons.
If you'll be attending this practice and have a spare drum, please bring
it. I only have two and most beginners don't own one yet.

For more information on the time, directions, etc, please visit the
Tree-Girt-Sea website at http://www.angelfire.com/il/cerian1/tgs.html

For more specific info on the dancing and drumming, e-mail Mihri at

Cheers again

I just want to mention that the previous message regarding merchants is
not in response to the posts from Free Trumpet or Lady Elayne. I
consider messages such as theirs to be announcements of services that
are just the sort of thing that the Green was created for.

I'll be quiet now

Thanks

Greetings oh purveyors of fine goods.

I would like to point out that though I do not want commercials being
sent out via e-mail on this list you do have another option. On the
Village Green home page their is a folder for SCA merchants to place
links to their own home page. Please feel free connect to

http://www.egroups.com/groups/village-green/

and add a link to your SCA business page.

There is also a folder for members of the Midlands populace to add
links to their personal home pages. The Village Green homepage is
dynamic, any member of the list may add new folders or links that they
believe will be of interest to the folk of the Midlands. Just please
be neat and on topic.

I would also like to reinvite everyone to add their practice time,
location and contacts to the Village Green calendar. The Calendar is
quickly becoming an excellent resource for finding out what is
happening in the Midlands but it is up to you to keep your own group's
information current.

Thank you

Greetings to the readers of the Village Green.

As mentioned on Fraser's Oak awhile back, I have available the Dragon
in Annulo embroidery.

The most popular items are:

trigger or duck cloth (whichever is available in the area) $20 add
dragon on back $8
     2. Badges 8.5 inches in diameter finished and ready to apply to
your garment. $8
     3. Shoulder flash embroidery 5 inch or 8.5 inch available
                     5 inch unfinished flash $5
                     5 inch finished flash $9
                     8.5 inch unfinished flash $8
                     8.5 inch finished flash $12

Other requests and ideas concerning the use of this design are
accepted. I am purposely keeping the prices of this embroidery as low
as possible as my service to the Midlands War effort. I can also
embroider directly onto your tabard for the same price as a badge.

Please try to place your order for War by July 26 so that I can be sure
to finish all orders. Delivery will be at War unless other
arrangements are made.

Greetings,

This is just a friendly reminder that Dee and I (and Anna) host Bardic
evenings
at our house on the first Monday of the month.

This month the first monday is the 5th, and a lot of us have that day off. So
we are expanding activities out a little bit, and staring things at around
4 in the afternoon. We will be throwing meat (or other things) on the grill
at sometime around 5
(or a little earlier or later, as people wish). If you bring armor, we can hit
each other with sticks :)

So bring something you'd like to grill, and maybe something to drink, and
come join us.

We are going to try and start singing/performing/whatever by around 7 PM.

You don't have to be able to sing or tell a story to come join us.

	 Our house is at:
	  4034 Main Street, Downers Grove (630) 960-1671

That's about a mile south of I-88 (Highland exit, Highland turns into
Main), and
1+ miles east of I-355 (Ogden exit, east to Main, 1.5 blocks north of
Ogden), or
a mile north of Downers Grove Main street station (which is on Metra's
Burlington
Northern Line)

I have dragon in annulo machined embroidery available. I can run it at
different sizes but tabard size (8.5 x 8.5 inches) is about the largest I can
go at this time.

The dragon in annulo embroidery can be viewed at Jubilee on Terrae Finis's new
tabards. I will be available to answer any questions and take orders there. I
will also be attending Swordcliffe's 3rd of July event and Charleston's
event. Email inquiry's should be directed towards elayne1013@...
you may reach me by phone at (309)432-2631.

I'm asking: $20 for a tabard with embroidery. (please specify length)
             $8 for a large badge (tabard size= 8.5 x 8.5 inches)
             $5 for a medium size badge (5 x 5 inches)

There as many applications of this embroidery as you can think of so if you
have an idea just email or call. I can probably accomodate you!

<z>Hi, can you add the following event to your calendar?</z>

Event: Three from the Tree - a Middle-Eastern Revel
Date: Fri Jul 30, 1999
Description: The Ancient and Honorable Province of Tree-Girt-Sea announces the
second
and hopefully annual.

Three From the Tree, a Middle-Eastern Revel AND your last opportunity to
practice before Pennsic!!
July 30-August 1
Hastings Lake YMCA camp
Lake Villa, IL (North of Chicago)

Once again we call upon the figthers, fencers, and archers of the
kingdom to join together in teams of three for a contest of combined
skills.

Each team in the team tourney will consist of one heavy weapons fighter,
one fencer, and one archer. All members of each team shall do their
best in their field and shall come together at the end of the day to
entertain the masses at the bardic circle.
This year's bardic competition, however, will follow the theme of the
event, a Middle-Eastern revel. All entrants into the bardic portion of
the team competition must have something to do with the Middle-East...
if nothing else, songs and stories need to contain the words "Middle"
and "East."

Please note you need not be a memeber of a team to participate in any
portion of the event. Everyone plays, everyone has fun :)

(We may even do some melee type stuff!)

We also plan to have several classes on Middle-Eastern dance, drumming,
costuming, and whatever else we can get people to teach (volunteers,
anyone?)

There is also UNLIMITED AND CHEAP MERCHANT SPACE for anyone interested
in selling at this event.

For details and contact information, please visit our very basic, but
soon to be embellished, website at

Mihri Deniz-Yetim, the other Event Steward

am not sure how many others have gotten this on a listserv, but I
noticed it hadn't been forwarded to the Oak. In service to our former
queen, here is her message:

>Greetings unto the Populace of the Known World
>from Her Majesty Caitlin
>
>Os always said:" I'll win the tournament, and the rest is up to you".
>Therefore, Queen he made me, and Queen I shall remain to honor his name. To
>do otherwise would not be a fitting testament to the man who was my hero,my
>best friend, my love and my life.
>
>Though the world is timeless, our time is measured, and that makes the gift
>of time given to each other all that much more precious.
>The Cox family and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for
>the gifts of your time. We apologize for having to do this electronically,
>but there are just so many people to thank, that we'd never get it done
>otherwise.
>The support (both financial and most importantly, moral) we have received
>over the past week, although somewhat blurry in my mind, has helped us all
>to cope.
>
>Our families are bolstered by your encouragement and kind sentiments, and
>want you to know how much that means to us and will continue to mean to us
>in the future.
>
>One more thing.
>It had taken me all my life to find someone I loved, who loved me back.
>Unconditionally.Protectively. Companionably. Freely. Joyfully. We had
>something in 7 years that many people do not find in a lifetime, and I am
so
>grateful and strengthened by this love that it makes this almost bearable.
I
>dare say that all of our family and friends feel likewise.
>
>I will grieve for the rest of my life, but I will also laugh, and remember.
>Make time for yourselves and each other. Celebrate love. Celebrate life.
>
>Caitlin/Nancy
>
>PS- I would consider it a personal favor if people disseminated this note
to
>as many SCA Kingdom mailing lists as possible, as the support is world-wide
>(literally) and I don't have all the return addresses.
