Hey, at least you don't have to worry about being bombarded with too-frequent
mailings from us! It's been a year or so since we last wrote to you . . .
It's not that we haven't been busy, and in what follows we'll tell you briefly
about the books we've published over that time, and the ones that are coming

1. New, hopefully more effective interaction via Facebook
---------------------------------------------------------
We've set up a Facebook page for Verse Chorus Press and ask all of you who
aren't implacably anti-FB to like us there and get updates on our books via your
Facebook news stream. It seems like the easiest, and least intrusive way to keep
you posted on what we're doing. To do this, please go to:

2. LUC SANTE's award-winning FOLK PHOTOGRAPHY
---------------------------------------------------------
At the end of last year, we co-published (with YETI) Luc Sante's FOLK
PHOTOGRAPHY, a beautifully printed collection of "real-photo postcards,"
together with a 30-page essay that is a substantial new contribution to the
history of photography. The book received considerable praise, and now Luc has
been given one of the prestigious Infinity Awards by the International Center of
Photography.
Luc has long been an important writer about photography, but this award is
given specifically for work published in 2009, in other words for FOLK
PHOTOGRAPHY.

and a signed essay, at:

3. ROBERT LURIE's biography of STEVE KILBEY & THE CHURCH
---------------------------------------------------------
Based on extensive interviews and featuring over 70 rare photographs, No
Certainty Attached is the first comprehensive biography of Steve Kilbey and his
band. It charts their personal and musical ups and downs: the commercial heights
of "The Unguarded Moment" and "Under the Milky Way," the creative breakthroughs
of the Priest=Aura album and Kilbey's underappreciated solo work, followed by
the band's struggle to survive in the wake of bad business decisions and their
singer's drug indulgences.
Lurie was given unprecedented access to Steve Kilbey, who not only submitted to
many hours of interviews but also checked the manuscript before publication. So
in one sense No Certainty Attached is an authorised biography--but it doesn't
pull any punches, for example about Kilbey's years of drug addiction. At the
outset, Kilbey told the author: "Lurie, it's your book. Write whatever the fuck
you want about drugs. You have my blessing."
Lurie also interviewed Kilbey's family, present and former bandmates, his
friends and his foes, and what emerges is the compelling story of an artist and
a band clinging steadfastly to their muse in the face of external and internal
obstacles.

4. More great crime fiction from PETER DOYLE
---------------------------------------------------------
Set in Australia in the years following World War II, Peter Doyle's novels
brilliantly explore the criminal underworld, political corruption, and the
postwar explosion of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. In 2005, we published GET
RICH QUICK, in which Doyle's irrepressible protagonist, Billy Glasheen, found
himself involved in a gambling scam, transporting a fortune in stolen jewels,
and all the while keeping the wheels greased during Little Richard's
hair-raising 1956 tour. Now Doyle takes us back to the start of Billy's career,
at the end of World War II.
It's August 1945: the Japanese have surrendered and there's dancing in the
streets of Sydney. But Billy Glasheen has little time to celebrate; his black
marketeer boss has disappeared, leaving Billy high and dry. Soon he's on the run
from the criminals and the cops, not to mention a shady private army. They all
think he has the thing they want, and they'll kill to get hold of it.
Unfortunately for Billy, he doesn't know what it is . . . but he'd better find
it fast.

5. Super-special offer for members of this list
---------------------------------------------------------
In the course of selling books through stores and wholesalers, inevitably we end
up with a number of returns: books that are not quite in perfect condition, even
though they're clean, unread copies, with at most a few scuff marks on the
cover. And times are tight, so we wanted to offer them to you at a really great
price; we can't imagine having to dump them. If you go to the following page on
our web site, you can get copies of books you know you'd like to try for only a
fraction of the full retail price.

6. Upcoming
---------------------------------------------------------
In late May, we'll be republishing STACEY LEVINE's novel, Frances Johnson, one
of our favorite books of the century to date. Later in the year, there'll be a
collection of essays by ERIK DAVIS, a reissue of some great Seinfeldian fiction
by GILBERT ROGIN, and Wild About You, the definitive work on Australian and NZ
garage bands from the 1960s. We hope you'll want to stay tuned.
best wishes
