This site is to support people who are interested in the devices created by Vern Graner and documented in Nuts and Volts magazine. So far, the articles supported here are :
July 2006: The Trainsaver-- The Trainsaver is a Prop-1 based electronic train controller designed to extend the life of model trains that are used in a commercial venue. The Trainsaver coordinates sound effects with train movement, uses a motion sensor to determine if there is an audience, and limits the train to one lap every 10 minutes (default).
April 2006: The Thereping-- The "Thereping" is an experimental musical instrument using a microcontroller and a sonar sensor to produce music. The device borrows both from the Theremin and from the Bagpipes for inspiration. This group is for anyone interested in expanding and exploring the Thereping as a chassis for experimental music.
The folks from SPIN were at Maker Faire in San Mateo and they asked me about the Thereping. The device (and my brief comments) made it into the "NOISE" section
