The Santa Clara river mouth beach was fairly quiet this morning maybe due to an
adult Peregrine Falcon that was perched on a snag near the refrigerator (if
you've been there lately you know). The only other species new for me this week
was the continuing Black-necked Stilt among the other modest numbers of
shorebirds and terns.
Crossing the Ventura River on Casitas Vista Road there were 5-6 Common
Merganser. They were flying down river when one female dropped into the water,
2 males and 2-3 other females continued on. The Foster Park camp/picnic ground
was pretty birdy. A Hairy Woodpecker busy near the Crew Trail sign was my
highlight here.
