This is a forum for Tidewater area Shopsmith owners. Share tips and info, ask for help, arrange for gatherings or classes, etc. The Shopsmith is a wonderful system and the more you know, the more you can create with it. We have many owners in this area and we can have a lot of fun learning together to get the most out of our tools.
Important tips: 1) Don't get your 520 in the H20; 2) Factory castors don't roll well in the sand - retrofit your machine with pneumatic tires; 3) Wax, wax, wax!! 4) Check your alignment regularly, especially after dragging it across uneven surfaces such as the beach; 5) Use a grounded extension cord when SurfSmithing; 6) Before insuring your tools, be sure your agent has a sense of humor, and that loss in a rising tide is covered; 7) Invest in a good metal detector, you never know when you might need one! 8) Try to sell movie rights of your story to James Cameron - "ShopTanic!"
