The Shire of Vanished Wood is a local branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to the study and celebration of the Middle Ages the way they should have been — no plague, religious persecution, or lack of flush toilets.

Our shire is located in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago, and is one of many groups in Northern Illinois. Our neighbours include: Tree-Girt-Sea (Northside Chicago), Grey Gargoyles (Southside Chicago), Ravenslake (North suburbs), Rokkehealden (South Suburbs), Foxvale (Aurora) and Caraig Ban (DeKalb/Kane counties)
