Hi I'm new too.<br><br>Vandread is absolutely THE
best spoof of mecha, space adventure anime, popular
anime and popular scifi I've ever seen! I've picked out
references to over half a dozen other shows just in the
first two episodes! Here are some examples:<br>-
communicator and cloaking sound effects from Star Trek<br>-
Blue haired girl (can't remember names yet) with
device around her eye like 7 of 9, ST: Voyager<br>-
Hibiki goes through a self reflection about his self
worth, confidence and other personal issues, Shinji from
EVA and Akito from Nadesico-in EVA like dialogue with
EVA and Serial Experiement Lain like mood<br>- the
ying-yang sign which appears on the ship-to-ship
communication display, Outlaw Star<br>- the stereotypical cute
something (robot in this case), looks like a cross being
Pen Pen from EVA and those spherical robots from
Gunbuster, talks with a weird addition added to the end of
every sentence, Di Gi Charat-nyo?<br>- the computer wiz
with glasses and pony tails, Narusegawa Naru (in nerd
mode) from Love Hina<br>- Hibiki looks like a cross
between Hiyami from BlueSub#6 and Akito from
Nadesico<br>- Di-ta (reference to STTNG's Data?) looks just
like that girl from Generator Gul<br>- in episode two,
when Hibiki got into his mecha and realized he didn't
know the controls, again, he said "I'll move it with
my will!", and the robot move, EVA of course<br>-
the navigator is dropped into a tank of colored
liquid, naked, Outlaw Star<br>- the Man's fighting robot
is a mockery of any robot that used melee weapons, I
mean, chain saw?<br>- (bad!) alien ship, episode 2, the
American movie "Flight of the Navigator"<br>- the Vandread
is a fusion of several popular mechas, too many to
name<br>- the Women's monster costume looks like those from
the Bad Lad's Gang in Trigun<br>- Men vs Women, a
certain anime movie whose name I can't remember at this
moment, men were the monsters in that one<br><br>There's
also something that feels like Tenchi Muyo, but I
can't quite put my hand on it. Anyhoo, this is what I
came up with so far, and I'm only on eps 3.
<br><br>The Vandread review at Anime Coloney is totally
wrong. It's not a shonen anime, it's an anime making fun
of shonen (and some other) anime. <br><br>Anyone
have anything to add?
by that, I meant that the message was already clear (sheez... now that I look at
it, it looks that I'm saying farewell to the club!!! that wasn't the
intention!!!)
I HATED that cliffhanger! (in a positive way). it's one that makes one unable to
sleep (just like <br>Aeris' death in FFVII)<br>where did you get it, ep12?
Damn right it kicks ass!<br>Heh, this is the only
link for Vandread on
anipike:<br><a href=http://www.scifi.com/anime/anime.cgi?26054
target=new>http://www.scifi.com/anime/anime.cgi?26054</a><br><br>I think it sums
up the series pretty well....<br>As
for new members, I'll go by the mantra "if you build
it, they will come". Eventually people will watch
Vandread and recognize the "KICK ASS" it has...yep. I
don't want to spam other clubs (nor do I encourage you
people) to join anything. I don't want all these people
to join without doing anything...
if you want pics, perhaps you should go to
www.vandread.com. they're pretty small though... with my limited
knowledge of the Jp. language I managed to get to a page
with profiles of the main charas. just being able to
transscribe katakana is so useful...<br>they include the
birthdays. something for the club's calendar?
Alright! Another member! I'll claw this club this
club to double digits, just you wait and
see...<br>Yeah, the first 11 episodes aired in Japan this year. I
believe episodes 12 and 13 [the last two...there'd better
be a second season...] just aired recently, so you
can't find them subtitled just yet. I'll post a link
for those people who want to download the episodes
and see how great Vandread is [look in the LINKS
section, look to your RIGHT people!]. Really. It hasn't
been announced for a north american or european
release yet...but a SMART company should grab it sometime
soon...
Hiya! I found the first 11 eps fansubbed on the Internet... SO cool! does it
have an US/European release? when was the first release in Japan? must be rather
new, as there are hardly sites on it.
