If you can't commit to a tabling shift, be sure to stop by to say hello, and pick up literature and samples.
  • Saturday, Aug. 13, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Exhibits, tastings, information, vendors, recipes, speakers, children's area.
  • $2 general admission (12 and over); $1 admission with non-perishable food item donation (benefitting local food banks)
  • We look forward to seeing you there!

Fright night is almost here! It's that time again when ordinary pumpkins turn into ghoulish faces, and there's a regular rotation of scary movies on television. Here at the VNHQ, we're singing along to "Monster Mash" and daring one another to make it through an entire viewing of The Shining. Heck, we love any holiday that gives us a reason to indulge in our insatiable sweet tooth with piles of vegan candy and pumpkin-based everything. This year, turn up the scare with our tips on frightening foods (eyeball mini-cupcakes, anyone?), spooky sweets, and devilish deals.

Halloween is literally the sweetest time of year. While baskets of ghost-shaped chocolates and pumpkin-spiced marshmallows are frighteningly fun, you'll need real sustenance for All Hallows' Eve. Savory entrées such as Butternut Squash Stuffed Shells and a warm Grilled Zucchini and Tomato Casserole are the perfect meals before you venture out into the cold, dark, (and scary) night. If you really want to indulge in some sinfully good sweets, bake up a batch of Zombie Cupcakes or Death by Chocolate Brownies to take to your friend's spooky soirée.

    Festive Feast:
    Pumpkin and Mushroom Risotto
    Stuffed Acorn Squash
    Sweet Potato Lentil Chili
    Hearty Shepard's Pie
    Apple & Raisin Salad
    Beefless Tips & Rice
    Butternut Squash Sweet Potato Soup
Country Fried Seitan Steaks with Gravy

    Spooky Sweets:
    Scary Eyeball Mini Cupcakes
    Pumpkin Pie Cheesecakes
    Apple Puff Pastry
    Gluten-Free Pumpkin Chocolate Chunk Bars
    Gooey Hot Fudge Brownies
    Caramel Apple Pie
    Better Than a Butterfinger

Remember the joy of turning your Halloween trick-or-treat pail inside out and making candy rain all over your kitchen table? It was a fantastic reward from a long trek around the neighborhood—a seemingly endless stash of sugary sweets as far as the eye could see. If you're ready to return the favor to little goblins and princesses visiting your doorstep, the VegNews Official Guide to Vegan Candy is the perfect way to pick the right treats. Or perhaps you want to host a scary movie night or a pumpkin carving party with your pals? VegNews contributor Chloe CoSCAREelli shares tips to turn your humble abode into a graveyard smash.

    Hi all,

My neighbor recently came to me with some drastic results from a doctor. She wants to go veg immediately, but doesn't feel like she has the ability to learn a new way of eating/cooking overnight. She requested information about pre-planned meals/chefs. I referred her to some resources, but would prefer to refer her to an actual person (locally here in Sacramento if possible).

Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm not sure she'd feel comfortable at a Veg Society meeting for example, I'm thinking more of a service she can use or pay for.

    Thanks,

    Hi all,

My neighbor recently came to me with some drastic results from a doctor. She
wants to go veg immediately, but doesn't feel like she has the ability to
learn a new way of eating/cooking overnight. She requested information about
pre-planned meals/chefs. I referred her to some resources, but would prefer
to refer her to an actual person (locally here in Sacramento if possible).

Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm not sure she'd feel comfortable at
a Veg Society meeting for example, I'm thinking more of a service she can
    use or pay for.

PLEASE CIRCULATE THIS NOTICE TO YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, CONTACTS!

In the coming days, you should be aware.....Do not open any message with an attachment called: Invitation FACEBOOK, regardless of who sent it. It is a virus that opens an Olympic torch that burns the whole hard disc C of your computer.
    ...
This virus will be received from someone you had in your address book. That's why you should send this message to all your contacts. It is better to receive this email 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive an email called: Invitation FACEBOOK, though sent by a friend, do not open it and delete it immediately. It is the worst virus announced by CNN. A new virus has been discovered recently that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever.

It is a Trojan Horse that asks you to install an adobe flash plug-in. Once you install it, it's all over. And there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information of their function is saved.
