Dear Friends,

Well, Karen Harper and I had fun preparing and setting up for the
Full Moon ritual last month...and then we had a nice time chatting
for a couple of hours as no one else came! (We were a bit
disappointed, but we got over it.) :P ;)

And so, the Full Moon ritual will now be happening in August, led by
Karen Harper, so get it on your calendars now! :)

More details will come...

I will be attending the annual UU Young Adult conferences ConCentic
and Opus at UniCamp outside of Toronto, Canada. I will be gone from
July 30th to August 14th.

Have a great ritual!

Many Breezy and Refreshing Blessings,
Madeline :)

Hi there,
I'm a fellow UUer from NY state. I just want to share with you the
opportunity to visit a very nice UU Parenting bulletin board. We
badly need some new members who would like to talk with other UU
parents from all over the country. A small but cool group if I do
say so myself!

Please forgive the intrusion! I won't pester you again!

Dear Friends,

There will indeed be a CUUPS ritual tonight, gather 7:45, ritual at
8pm. It's going to be a Full Moon ritual, as the Full Moon is near.
Karen Harper has crafted some gorgeous invocations, and we're going
to try a Full Moon chant of mine that's never been tried before!

As always our ritual will be followed by mirth and merrymaking!
We'll move to the Lindi Ramsden Fireside Room for food, drink,
conversation, and fellowship!

**** PLEASE BRING FOOD OR DRINK TO SHARE, as you are able. ****

I'll bring ice water and lemonade!

ALL ARE WELCOME!

Extra blessings upon those who RSVP to <moonlet@...>, but
please come either way! :)

Feel free to contact me with any questions or requests.

Shiny Moon Blessings,
Madeline :o)

P.S.--FYI, there will *always* be a ritual/gathering every month

Dear Friends,

Let us have a Summer Solstice/Litha ritual to honor the beginning of
Summer and the highpoint in the life of the Sun, the longest,
lightest days of the year. I hope you can make it! A special bonus:
two of my chants will be taught and chanted! We'll start about
7:45pm, but if you cannot make it by 7:45, you are welcome to arrive
at any time. Please enter the sanctuary quietly and join the circle
with attention and intention.

As always our ritual will be followed by mirth and merrymaking!
We'll move to the Lindi Ramsden Fireside Room for food, drink,
conversation, and fellowship! PLEASE BRING FOOD OR DRINK TO SHARE,
as you are able. For sure we'll have coffee, tea, hot cocoa, ice
water, and lemonade! Do let us have other fine edible gifts from our
Mother to tantalize our taste buds and fill our tummies!

ALL ARE WELCOME!

Extra blessings upon those who RSVP to <moonlet@...>, but

Feel free to contact me with any questions or requests.

Warm and sunny blessings,

Dear Friends,

You definitely don't want to miss our most beautiful CUUPS ritual in
months, so pay attention!

                     Hear ye! Hear ye!
Let it be known:

On Friday, the 9th of May, 2003, we will gather in the sanctuary of
the First Unitarian Church of San José, from 7:15pm on, for a
7:45-8:30ish ritual. We will gather to create sacred space in this
sacred space through our words, actions, and intentions. And we will
experience deep healing, community, hope, and renewal as we journey
between the worlds in a lovely, echanting ritual of music, circle
dance, sharing, and celebration, coordinated by our beloved and
esteemed Reverenda Lilia Cuervo, with the assistance of the Great
Bard of FUCSJ, Frank Farris, and myself.

The ritual will incorporate Russian dancing and music, and we will
call upon the Goddesses and Gods of ancient Russia, as well as the
poetry and compassionate spirit of the Japanese Goddess Kwan Yin, to
be with us and move through us. And we will be transformed and
filled with sweet energy by this rich and ultimately delightful
experience!

If you cannot make it by 7:45, you are welcome to arrive at any time,
but please enter the sanctuary quietly and join the circle with
attention and intention.

As always our ritual will be followed by mirth and merrymaking!

The ritual is an Earth Day ritual and in this case will also be a
Mother's Day ritual of healing for ourselves and our Mother Earth!

As finally(!) we truly journey into the realm of the Sun and the
warmth, let us endeavor to bring the warmth of passion and compassion
into our own hearts, to fill our bodies and spirits with purpose and
hope, such that we might grow with the Sun Himself and spread love
and comfort to our planet and our fellow beings!

ALL ARE WELCOME!

Dear Friends,

I will be at the church tonight at 7:30pm, as it is our appointed
night. I'll bring some yummy edibles. :o) I hope some of you will
join me. This is the closest we will get to Beltaine, and we can
make a further celebration of Spring, warmth, new growth, etc. Also,
I would like to begin discussing the Summer Solstice ritual.

Attention please!! (**trumpets**)

Please mark your calendars for next month's gathering. Lilia Cuervo
will be leading a beautiful Earth Day ritual to inspire and nourish
us. This will be Friday the 9th of May. Plan to attend if at all
possible, because if you're not there, you will be sorry to have
missed it!

And then, it would be most delightful to have a big, joyous
celebration at Summer Solstice, which is why I'd like to begin
discussing ideas for that tonight. Hope to see you there! :o) Those
in attendance will have the great fortune to behold (and perhaps even
touch) our official certificate of membership in CUUPS! ;)

Many Fragrant, Intertwining, Delicious Spring Blessings to you all!!!

Dear Pagan Folk,

We ** WILL ** be having an Oestara/Equinox ritual Friday. PLEASE
come and help out, because the RE 5th graders are coming! (The 5th
graders study different religions and attend different
religous/worship ceremonies (mosque, temple, mass, etc.).) I will
plan/lead the ritual, unless someone else really wants to. Please
contact me if you are willing to help in the leading. Please bring
things like flowers, any ritual/sacred objects, poems, but please let
me know you are bringing them if possible! Anyone who knows what if
anything has been done in the past to accomodate/include the
children, please let me know! Let's discuss this on the discussion
list. (If anyone is not on the list who wants to be, send a blank
e-mail to <chd-discussion-subscribe@yahoogroups.com> and you will be
added.)

We will gather at 7pm for a 7:30pm ritual. We will then have much
feasting and socializing!

Please come! I'll make it fun! :o)

Blessings,
Madeline

From Frank Farris, ritual creator and leader:

Here are two ideas about preparing for our ritual on Friday. In the ritual,
we will be looking into a scrying mirror that represents Brigid's Well. As
you look into the mirror, the waters of intuition, what will you see? What
do you want to birth in your life? What personal quality do you want to
awaken and nurture?

Second, oats are sacred to Brigid. If anyone wanted to make oatmeal cookies
for our treats afterwards, that would be great. Also, if you want to have a
hot drink, you might consider bringing your own mug so the clean-up will be
simpler.

Blessed Be!

Yours,
Frank

Hello friends!

---1---

Please don't forget our Brigid ritual on the 14th in the sanctuary,
gather at 7pm. See a pretty invitation at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uusj-cuups/files/Brigid.html

---2---

Stephen Estes wants to make sure you're all aware of the CUUPS booth
which will be present--for the first time this year!--at PantheaCon.
For this we have to thank a really great guy named Riley, a San
Francisco UU, who isn't even Pagan, who's done most of the work to
make this booth happen! Also present will be Judy Craft, a national
CUUPS board member. Stephen and myself will also be there, along
with a representative from San Francisco, Sally from Santa Cruz
CUUPS, and others!

We hope some of you may be able to attend PantheaCon and if so will
at very least stop by and see the booth and meet some people and keep
the booth staffers company for a while! Volunteers to spend an hour
or more staffing the booth, in order to give Riley and Judy a break,
will be very, very much appreciated.

This will be an opportunity for those who aren't familiar with the
larger CUUPS organization to learn something about it and meet some
people who are involved with it. (Stephen himself is a former board
member!)

If you have any questions, please e-mail Riley at:
<riley_mclaughlin@...>.

For more about PantheaCon, visit:
http://www.ancientways.com/html/convention.html.

  From Stephen:

The hotel has agreed to run four daily shuttles for pick ups at the
light rail station.

Also, you can sign up to work the Con as a volunteer! email
"volunteer@...
<mailto:volunteer@...>" or see
<http://www.ancientways.com/html/gofer.html> for more details.

---3---

Finally, we have an order of business to attend to either before or
after the ritual: we need to send in our annual CUUPS chapter
registration form. We need to have at least 3 individuals who are
CUUPS members, which I think we should have covered with myself,
Stephen, and Frank. However, I'd like to know if others out there
are members. If we have 9 CUUPS members in our chapter, we don't
have to pay the $30 annual chapter fee. (An individual membership
costs $35 for an individual, $50 for a family, or $20 for those with
low income.)

So, if there are those who are already members or who intend to
become members, please let me know! For more information about
CUUPS, visit http://www.cuups.org.

---*---

We're going to have a great time next Friday, so I hope to see you there!

Bright Blessings,
Madeline :)

"Join the largest indoor gathering of tribes and traditions in the

I'm also taking this opportunity to inform or give a head's up to
everyone about PantheaCon. For those who don't know, PantheaCon is
the West Coast's annual Pagan convention and is always held on
President's Day weekend. For a long time it was held in San
Francisco, but starting with last year it is now being held at San
Jose DoubleTree hotel (2050 Gateway Place, San Jose, 408-453-4000).
It runs from Friday afternoon to Monday afternoon (14th-17th).
Admission is $70 for the whole event, $30 for one full day, and $15
for evenings only. I will be there, and there will be a CUUPS booth
there.

It has a lot of everything, and I highly recommend it!

Dear Friends,

I am so glad to hear that people got together and made merry in my
absence. I'm only sad to have missed it--particularly the flute
music!

I apologize greatly for my prior lack of understanding of the fact
that a ritual has been planned and will be led by our former
coordinator, the fabulous and multi-talented Frank Farris (applause)
:o) ... So we are all set on that front!

For the sake of greater participation, it would be wonderful if Frank
could make known what parts are available for people to volunteer to
be in charge of--and of course then people must volunteer!
Alternately, if anyone has a reading or anything else they would like
to contribute, please e-mail Frank at <tenorfrank@...> and
hopefully he can incorporate it into the ritual.

And now let the formal announcement be made:

(trumpets) ;)

~
O Brigid raise above my head
Your mantle bright to guard me.
~

Consider yourself invited! Come one, come all, come in honor of the
powerful and ancient Celtic Goddess Brigid, patron deity of poetry,
healing, and smithcraft. (Both as a Goddess and a saint, she is
further associated with midwifery, prophesy, inspiration, newborn
babies, sailors, dairyworkers, and still more!)

The holiday, Imbolc/Candlemas, the Feast of Brigid (also written as
Brighid or Bhride and sometimes pronounced "breed" or "bride"), is a
time of new beginnings and growth. Imbolc means "in milk", and it
marks the time when pregnant ewes begin to lactate, one of the first
signs of the coming spring. It is a time for "New Year's
resolutions" of a sort, a time to make a committment to the goals and
dreams we intend to manifest in the coming year.

And so we will gather in the sanctuary at 7pm on Friday, February
14th, in order to begin our ritual promptly at 7:30. The ritual will
be followed (as always!) by feasting and socializing in the Ramsden
Fireside room, so please bring food or drink to share as you are able
and willing.

I want to make it especially clear that our gatherings are open to
all members and friends of this church and any guests they wish to
invite. You do not need to be a Pagan; you do not need to know
anything about Brigid or about Paganism; you don't have to be
interested in becoming a Pagan: one of the functions of CUUPS is to
build a bridge between Paganism and UUism, to share something of who
and what we are as Pagans with non-Pagan UUs. Hey, my mom and sister
came to our Yule (Winter Solstice) gathering and had a great time,
and they aren't Pagans *or* UUs!!

As always this gathering is open and welcoming to children! If I
know that several are coming, I will even plan special ways to
include them and keep them busy!

See a pretty invitation at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uusj-cuups/files/Brigid.html

Blessings,
Madeline

Dear Madeline,

We certainly missed you. Nonetheless, we had a lovely impromptu ritual!
Joanne played her flute--it was wonderful. Frey(a), Karen, Ed, Stephen,
Emily and I were also there.

It seems that Frank is planning a Brigid ritual and Stephen is bringing our
huge scrying mirror. (Emily and I have Scouts on the 14th so we won't be
there.)

Hope you have a wonderful time this Friday night. Sorry I can't be there.

For February, I've volunteered to organize a ritual for Brigid. Looking at
the calendar, I see that our date is February 14, Valentine's Day--a little
late for Brigid, but who cares? I hope that Mary Jeanne and Stephen will be
able to bring that wonderful scrying mirror.

Dear Madeline,
It sounds like we are definitely getting together.
One potential problem: Who will unlock/lock the church?? (LILIA, are you
coming?)

Bright Blessings to all,

I would very much like to participate and, in so doing, get back to being
involved First Unitarian. What time is the gathering this Friday? Where?

Dear Pagan Folk,

I will be out of town from tomorrow morning the 6th to the evening of
the 13th, and since our scheduled time is Friday the 10th, I will not
be able to be there!

However, it would be positively *fabulous* if in my absence some
people would meet and start planning the *magnificent* Brigid ritual
I just *know* we're going to be having in February!

I know that Frank Farris cannot be there either. Possibly Stephen &
Mary Jeanne and/or Frank & Barbara are free, and perhaps Freya..?
Karen Harper is new to the church (for that matter, so am I, but
who's counting! <grin>) but not to Paganism and has been at both of
the past two gatherings (yeah Karen!). I think Sandra still has her
Spanish class. I wonder if Lilia might be able to make it this
time...

At any rate, there are 50 of you out there, and if even only a few of
you could make it, I just know you could plan a spectacular ritual,
or at very least get the ball rolling!

I've temporarily unmoderated this list so people can post if they
will be able to make it. If and when a few people post, please then
communicate privately amongst yourselves, as I have promised this to
be a very low-volume list!!

Many Blessings to you all!

Let it be known:

The Circle of the Heart's Delight will be having a Winter Solstice
gathering this Friday, December 13th, at 7:30pm, in the sanctuary.

We will have a simple ritual along with much singing of Pagan Yule
Carols and sharing of food, drink and conversation. I will bring a
big pot of hot water along with powdered hot chocolate and apple
cider and some teas, and others will bring coffee, other teas,
juices, etc., as they wish. Let us have breads, sweets, fruits--all
good gifts of our Lady as any shall see fit to share!!

Please bring ritual objects, candles, decorative items, etc. to add
to the festive air (as you are able and willing, of course). Bring
any and all versions of Pagan Yule Carols you have or can find. If
you've written any yourself, be sure to bring those! We'll sing
everything at least once! :) Bring any readings, poetry,
invocations, chants, etc. you would like to include in the ritual.
If you would like everyone to join in, multiple copies are most
helpful!

Most importantly, please bring yourselves! And bring your friends,
your relatives, your children, your spouse(s), your housemates, your
lovers...whomever! I don't think pets are generally welcome in the
sanctuary, or I'd say bring those too! ;)

Wear any and all finery you can muster! Let's have a jolly good time of it!

Please arrive at 7:30 if you can. If you cannot, please do come at
7:45, 8pm, 8:15, 8:30, or 8:45--nonetheless, please be aware that we
must leave the church at 9pm, so that our building custodian may lock
up our beloved building, so that he shall not be kept beyond his
scheduled time, which is of course only fair. If anyone wants to go
somewhere else afterwards to continue socializing, that is always a
possibility. So, those of us who are there will begin our activities
promptly around 7:30, but don't hesitate to join us at any time.

Let there be joy, feasting, mirth, merry-making, celebration,
fellowship--let us have so much *FUN* that the Sun shall hear us in
His slumber and feel such longing for the living world that He shall
be stirred into action and shall move swiftly along His appointed
trajectory and not tarry until again He fills our days with His
golden light and warmth!!

See you Friday!

Extra blessings upon those who RSVP to moonlet@..., but
please come either way! :)

In Anticipation,
Madeline :o)

Let it be known:

The Circle of the Heart's Delight will be having an informal
gathering this Friday, November 8th, at 7:45pm, in the sanctuary.

Let's get together!

Anyone who can make it, please come, and we can do a
barebones ritual if we wish, talk about what we'd like to do in the
future, get to know each other, eat, drink, and be merry!

Please bring something to eat or drink if you can. Please RSVP
to me if at all possible. Bring ritual objects if you wish. Wear
whatever you want.

All are welcome--bring anyone! Kids are welcome! A message
will be going out to the church mailing list. Hope to see a bunch
of folks!

I know of at least three people who cannot make it, but those of
us who can, let's get going!

Blessed Be,
Madeline :)
