Amar Ujala report 30/03/06

For the first time in any state, the world's biggest tourism
organization, the World Tourism Organisation is going to make the
Master Plan for Uttaranchal. For this the organsiation's consultant
James Jasmine has returned to Dehradun after making a tour of
various districts in Kumaon & Garhwal. He will speak with the Chief
Secretary to give the final touches to the Master Plan.
Mr. Jasmine informed this paper that UN's organsiation the WTO has
with the help of UNDP, on the urging of the center and state govt.'s
agreed to make the Master Plan for tourism for Uttaranchal. For this
he has conducted surveys of various tourist spots in Dehradun,
Haridwar, Rishikesh, Ramnagar, Corbett National Park, Almora,
Ranikhet, Jageshwar, Pithoragarh and Nainital. He said that there is
an increasing load of tourists in Corbett Park. The state is such
that for a capacity of 2,000 tourists, Corbett Park now has 1.22
lakh tourists per annum. In Kumaon the pressure is much less in some
tourist spots. In this situation it is important to develop new
tourist spots.
