No I will be 67 in November and have no health issues no I moved from
Brooklyn to Cloquet, MN. in 1967 which is west of Duluth. Then I moved to
Stillwater MN in 1979 where I was a prison guard for almost 20 years. Then in
2001 I moved to San Bernardino, CA and in 2005 moved to Omaha, AR. When I was
on the Shang she was a pretty good ship use to hang around with the marine
air squadron I believe it was VMA 225. Had a lot of fun on her and saw a
lot of ports I use to run liberty boats and the whale boat also ran the B&A
crane. Life kind of sucked as a deck ape but then again we had our good days.

My name is William (Bill) Rossini I served aboard the Shang from the time she
came to Mayport from the West Coast. Around October-November 1960, was in the
3rd Division deck ape anchor clinker. Did a Med cruise in 1961 and 1962 in Feb
of 1963 the Shang went to the Brooklyn Navy yard for a frame job I was born in
Brooklyn and had a whole bunch of sign request chits where I would be home just
about every night. My separation date was November 21 1963 when I sign up I
wanted a DD on the West coast Good old Navy gave me a carrier on the East coast,
Guess I can't complain because in Feb of 1963 they transferred me back to
Mayport. And gave me my DD the USS Noa DD 841 all them request chits were not
worth sh$t

Thank You Jim
I got or flew aboard the shitty shan around 2Th of June right before we
enter Spain on the MED. in 69 I was on the finally on in 1970. That last one it
shouldn't,t have taken. See the water was off all the time I can recall not
having water even drank for many days at a time with so much JP-5 in it that if
you smoked your breath would start o n fire?? It was so bad that they would pump
on water from other ship just to get the plane off the deck. I would like to
know the effect of what you have?
Here is what I have? At time my skin is like a sun burn with blisters on
it. Now I have a big sore in back that is about 4 inch at time it fell like
little wart on my spine. Skin feel like sand paper too along the legs. I had
wart all over my hand and arm to my elbows but that was after I got out. But
other on the line crew had them too. I just wrote the one Saturday that had
them. I was hoping that he would e-mail me to, but I found him on the guess book
of the web of the USS Shangrila. He was Wayne the head of the reunion comm. Have
you had any skin effect from it?????
I have had since I got out shortest off breath. But I believed that was
from smoking and in fact the doctors at the VA says that. Do you smoke? Cause if
you do then I'm in the same place that you're. Than my cheat hurt in the middle
not in the letter arm like your heart is hurt before having heart attach. But my
feet at time and all most every day feel like the have needle coming out of them
and feel like someone hit both of my feet with a big hammer right in the
instep.. Knee hurt and ankles feel like there coming out of joint and elbow and
neck. I did have a industrial injury back in the 1990 where I hurt my back. But
the doctor said I was faking it to much?? I've had many stomach problem. Now I
feel tried all the time I just want to sleep. I just can't name it all.
The VA wanted to call the skin thing dry skin but I was in Los Vegas for
9-11 and that doctor at that VA gave a omit that clean it up instead of on that
blister me up. And might has cause the sore.
I don't what to bother you to much you have your own problem and your
letter help alot. But if you can help with useful information it help me. Are
you getting anything from VA like a disability money for Asbestos or did you
sue? Just yesterday cause I and other VETS have had so much trouble in the mis
treat of it and they know it to and they play us for stupid they call mine on
the biopsy report as Basal Cell Carcinoma on the skin on my back. Look that up
and see the cause. Then type this into goggle Basal Cell Carcinoma Vs Jp-5 Jet
fuel and see what you get. Now Jet fuel and jet oil has asbestos in it??? But
the A4-C spray the jet oil all over the left wing and the belly? The oil can had
writing all over it (Do not let it contract the skin cause skin cancer.
Here are some more web site to go to again go to go ogle type in JP-5 jet
fuels vs agent orange?? Read away??? Now go to Jp-5 jet fuel vs skin cancers,
cancer read about those five rat per test and JP-4 JP-8 and other one. Do you
think that you have the asbestos poison??
Where do you live I'm living in the Los Angeles other. Have you had any
contact with any other VA-12 people on the matter. If so can you have them
e-mail me. I'm just getting started on this after 25 yr of fighting the VA. the
VA down here is just plainly fucking us. We are trying to start a vet thing here
to fight them back so If you hear something going on in LA it is me that
starting it. What ever it takes???? It's kind of funny and I told my friend that
I was working on the Los Angeles clean Air act with that this is happening to
me??? Type that in and see what it going threw. I Hope that I didn't bore you to
death but I'm going threw alot right now.
Thank You crazynick

Sorry but, I do not have any info. on your father. Just some comments.
I assume the {meatball} you are referring to is the Fresnel Lens Optical Landing
Aid System ie: FLOLAS. If so I was the leading 3rd class petty officer in charge
of the FLOLAS from the tine it was installed on the Shangri-La until my
enlistment was up on Nov. 11, 1964. During that time during that time you father
did not work with me. During that time the only personnel assigned to work on
the FLOLAS were either Interior Communications Electricians {IC} or Aviation
Electronics Technicians AE. So your father would have to been either in the IC
or AE division.
I would suggest that you contact The National Archives http://www.archives.gov/
an obtain his Naval military DD214 records. Next-of-kin can obtain free copies
of their DD Form 214 (Report of Separation) and other military and medical
records. The DD214 will show the following info.:
* Date and place of entry into active duty
* Home address at time of entry
* Date and place of release from active duty
* Home address after separation
* Last duty assignment and rank
* Military job specialty
* Military education
* Decorations, medals, badges, citations, and campaign awards
* Total creditable service
* Foreign service credited
* Separation information (type of separation, character of service, authority
and reason for separation, separation and reenlistment eligibility codes)
I hope that this is of help to you.
Good luck, Dale

Hello mates,
the names Jim Anketell, was aboard the Shang Dec 63 t0 Aug 67.
Was in the o2n2 plants making o2 for the air dales, medical and welding
shop, even cooled down some of the cooks drinks, and of course we were
well fed. Shang life tome was pretty good to me had some good friends
that i lost contact with one was Glenn Stacy from anahime ca. If your
out there Stacy leave me a note. I'm glad to see that some of the
spamers are gone.
Later mates and God Bless you all even spammers
I have not been aboard here in a while. When I was it was full of
unrelated messages. i was stationed on shang 1964 to 1968 I was a bt-2
when i left. i was in #1 fire room and also had 3 months as mess deck
MAA. I wish i was back in the navy. but i am overweight and 61 years
old.
so my prayers are with those who currently serve.. I did get a second
chance I served in navy reserve 1981 to 1989. i loved it. I was
stationed/attached to a frigate out of yokouka japan. i was there 6
times for acdura. my back would not let me finish my career for the
second time. I had originally hurt it on the shang in the fire room.
god bless you all RICH MCBEE
