UCSC Students Kick Military Recruiters Off Campus!

On April 5, about 300 University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) students led
by Students Against War (SAW) kicked Army, Navy and Marine Corps recruiters out
of the annual Career Center Job Fair, marking yet another success for the
nation-wide counter-military
recruitment campaign.

Joined by Watsonville's Brown Berets, SAW protesters gathered for a rally at the
campus bookstore and occupied the streets in a traffic-stopping procession up to
the Stevenson Event Center where the Job Fair was being held. Students were
motivated by fiery speeches about the racist, sexist, classist and heterosexist
biases of the military, all of which are in violation of the UC Santa Cruz's
non-discrimination policies.

As the march began, a small group of students infiltrated the Job Fair and
surrounded recruiter's tables, chanting and linking arms. This small group was
soon joined by more students from the march who pushed their way through front
and side doors, chanting, "Whose Campus? Our Campus!" as Job Fair
administrations attempted to literally shove them out the door.

Ultimately, 100 students were able to surround recruiters' tables while the
remaining 200 marchers stayed outside the Event Center, blocking the entrances
and chanting in support of those on the inside.

Student negotiators struck a bargain with the Career Center
Administrators after SAW protestors had occupied the Job Fair for about an hour.
Protesters agreed to stop the disruption and leave the Job Fair once recruiters
left the site and did not return.  After all the military recruiters received a
police escort out of the Event Center, protesters were granted a table where a
few representatives could remain at the Job Fair to educate students about
anti-military, pro-peace options for future employment.

Student negotiators also arranged for a future meeting with Career Center
Administrators and SAW to discuss the future of military recruitment at the
University of California at Santa Cruz.

Tim Casper, a crew cut-sporting 15-year-old from Victorville, peered into the
computer monitor and hunched slightly as he maneuvered the video game's soldier
into a flanking position.

Using a keyboard, Casper ordered the soldier to lob a grenade, then slap a new
magazine into his assault rifle. Creeping past the burned-out shell of a Humvee,
the soldier fired a quick burst into the back of what looked like the enemy.

"That's me, dude," said Jeremy Donnelly, 15, looking up from a video screen
across from Casper.

The classmates, both Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets at
Victor Valley High School, were playing "America's Army," a realistic,
multiplayer combat video game designed by the Army as a recruiting tool.

They were among about 2,000 teenage cadets from 40 local and national high
schools who gathered in El Segundo on Saturday to show off their skills in the
seventh annual West Coast National JROTC Drill Competition.

Students in crisp dress uniforms performed their drills with straight backs and
steeled looks of determination, the heels of their polished shoes clicking on
concrete.

Others practiced their flying skills in a Navy flight simulator or peered
through infrared sights mounted on military assault rifles.

Across the country, about 3,000 JROTC units such as these teach self-discipline
and leadership skills. They are not geared explicitly to recruiting students
into the military, officials said. But amid recent military recruiting
shortfalls, finding new ways to attract teenagers has become a priority, and
recruiters from all branches of the military were out in force.

"It's a lot more difficult to find the best candidates because you're recruiting
at a time of war," said Maj. Martin Casado. He is commanding officer of the Los
Angeles Marine Corps recruiting station, which reaches from San Luis Obispo to
Redondo Beach.

Events like this one, held by Raytheon, one of the nation's largest defense
contractors, help the effort, recruiters say.

On display for the hundreds of teenagers, parents, children and veterans who
turned out were the tools of war. "Can I pull the plug," a small boy asked his
father, clutching a "baseball" grenade from the Vietnam era.

Across the lot, a teenager peered into the steel belly of an M1A1 Abrams tank
and said to his friends: "That thing makes me want to join the Army."

"I want my son to go into the military," said Marie Calleja, watching closely as
her 9-year-old, Charles, struggled to bring the telescopic sight of an AR-15
assault rifle to his eye. "We don't want him to go over there and get killed,
but the percentages are pretty small."

Calleja's husband, Charlie, a Vietnam veteran, agreed. "JROTC programs would be
really beneficial for the whole country," he said. "The program will teach them
respect and self-discipline. These kids are running wild these days."

Others are concerned about the message the program sends to children with few
other opportunities.

"These events are often done in areas where students feel like they have no
other options," said Andy Griggs, a member of the Coalition Against Militarism
In Our Schools, a Los Angeles group opposed to the recruitment efforts. Griggs
said in a phone interview that military recruiters often outnumber college
recruiters at poorer schools in Los Angeles.

"It costs the military $18,000 per year to recruit one high school student," he
added. "In California, we spend $6,000 a year to educate these students."

For Tim Casper and Jeremy Donnelly, the Army's video simulation of combat is as
close as they can get to the real thing, for the moment.

"I want to join either the Marines or the Air Force," Casper said. "I kind of
wish I was old enough to be over there now. It's a good cause. The Iraqis are
trying to threaten us."

Donnelly, still enthralled by the video game, disagreed without looking up. "I
don't think the main threat is Iraqis. I think it's anyone who threatens our
freedom."

Turning to Casper, he barked: "Secure that area for me."

March 18th 2005 Civil resisters from the Civil Resistance study group
that have been meeting at the Friend's Meeting house in Eugene led 70
people in a successful direct action at the recruitment offices of the
four major branches of the military service: Air Force, Army, Navy and
Marines.   In a dignified, inspired example of classic non-violent
struggle, and armed with graphic photo enlargements of the human
casualties of the war, American and Iraqi, as well as thoroughly
researched material that exposed the lies of our government about the
realities of the war and the recruitment process, the resisters
confronted the military recruiters and the mainstream media.

While acting from a place of deep compassion and respect for the human
dignity for those who disagree with us, we achieved three major
objectives with startling success; we shut down the recruitment center
for the day; we succeeded in injecting into the mainstream media
graphic images and powerful verbal messages capable of transforming
public opinion about the war; and we established our First Amendment
rights to demonstrate at a supposedly "private property" shopping
center without interference from law enforcement.   The action was
executed after a month of meticulous planning, many meetings, civil
disobedience training, copious research and a tremendous amount of hard
work and long hours by many of the resisters.

We organized the Civil Resistance study group around the idea that the
time had come for action, in addition to ongoing legal and conventional
methods of resisting the war. Our group studied successful non-violent
resistance
movements from the American civil rights struggle, the South African
struggle against apartheid, the Indian Independence movement under
Gandhi's leadership, the Polish Solidarity movement that overthrew the
communist regime, and the Danish resistance to the Nazis in WWII.

We made the decision to confront military recruiters and the mainstream
media at their offices in the Santa Clara shopping center in north
Eugene with enlarged graphic photos of the human cost of the war,
images not shown in the mainstream American press, as well as hard
facts we had researched about the realities of military life and the
lack of veterans benefits for those returning from the war. Many of us
took a thorough civil disobedience training, and we were prepared to be
arrested and go to jail. We believed that since the shopping center is
"private property," that private security would tell us to leave and
call the police when we refused, and that the police would then have to
arrest us for criminal trespass.   Our strategy was to create the
classic confrontation of non-violent resistance -- to create a
situation in which the authorities must either show their hand and
repress us by violent means including arrest, or they would be forced
to back down and allow us to break the law, admitting they cannot
control us.

  We also wanted to present a situation in which the media would be
forced to show the violent disturbing images of the war if they wished
to cover us.

As long as we were non-violent AND courageously stuck to our plan, we
believed we would create a win-win situation -- if they arrested us, we
would win by attracting public sentiment for our cause; if they did not
arrest us, we would show we could break the law without consequences,
thereby emboldening future protest.

Following Gandhi's idea to tell your "opponent" what you are going to
do ahead of time, we sent out press releases twice in the week prior to
the action, to the media and to the three law enforcement agencies in
the area -- the Eugene Police, Springfield Police, and Lane County
Sheriffs, including the fact that we would be performing civil
disobedience and were fully prepared to be arrested. The press release
included the date and time of our action, but not the location, with
the stipulation that the location would be revealed one hour before the
action started. We had a meeting with Lt. Pete  Kerns of the Eugene
Police Department at his request, to go over our plans and review
possible police responses, with our attorney present and a tape
recorder running. We made it clear to him that we were committed to
non-violent methods and were trained in civil disobedience, and that
among our group would be some elderly, some children, and many others
with video cameras. We questioned him in detail about police policy
about the use of "non-lethal" weapons such as tear gas, pepper spray,
rubber bullets, and bean bag projectiles against non-violent
protesters.

Many people in the group worked many late nights to create very
polished written materials for the press packets, and packets to give
to the recruiters, and we created the placards showing the large
graphic images of severely injured Iraqi children being held by their
anguished parents, American soldiers with missing limbs, anguished
relatives of dead GI's at their funerals, and the like.

The plan called for six of us to be the "advance team" who would go
into the recruiters offices with the packets of written material and
copies of some of the photos we had prepared, and go over the  material
with them, then ask them to sign an agreement that they would present
this material to every potential recruit who came in to see them. The
issues we wanted to raise were the lack of health care and education
benefits for people in the military, the sexual abuse and rape of women
in the military, and the lack of a true portrayal of a career that
involved killing people, including women, children, and the elderly.
This would serve to educate the recruiters, and force them to either
practice full disclosure with potential recruits as we intended, or to
refuse and thereby admit that they were hiding the truth.

While this was occurring, the rest of our comrades would be organizing
the placards with the photographic enlargements bearing captions like,
"You won't see this on NBC," and "This is what collateral damage looks
like," for a dramatic display to the media and the public in front of
the recruiters offices.

We received many calls from the media expressing great curiosity about
our planned action, trying to get us to reveal the location, including
an editor of the Register Guard and DJ's from KUGN, KLCC, and KWVA. In
that way, we were able to get out the message we wanted before the
action, but keep up the suspense about an action that no one outside of
our supporters knew the location where it would occur. We knew we were
doing something that would have an impact, if the press and the police
were COMING TO US for information.

The four main branches of the military have offices together at the
Santa Clara shopping center -- Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force. Our
advance scout determined one hour before the action that three of the
four were open at 10:30, one hour before the main action was to begin.
Some of us believed we saw plainclothes police in the area, but there
was no obvious police presence.

The media began to arrive at 11:00. There was no sign of private
security personnel.   At 11:15, we completed our final instructions to
the whole group of resisters and supporters, which numbered 70 people,
and the advance team of six people took the recruiter packets and
walked with determination to the recruiters offices. We found that they
had locked down all the doors so no one, including potential recruits,
could enter. We peered in the doors, and found only one Marine sitting
in the back of his office. We knocked on the door. He slowly,
reluctantly came to the door and unlocked it, and stood in the doorway
blocking our entrance. I introduced myself, shook his hand, and
explained to him that we wanted to talk with him about the recruitment
process, and wanted to give him a chance to address our concerns.

The media converged on us immediately and we had six or more
microphones thrust in our faces. The marine became nervous and moved to
pull the door closed, but I stuck my foot in the door to prevent him
from closing it. He said that he would not talk to us and wanted to
close the door, and I continued to explain what we were there for, and
opened the packet and began going over the issues involved, the media
catching every word. He then demanded I get out of the doorway or he
would call the police. I continued talking about the issues, and he
responded by saying "That's it, I'm calling the police," and left the
doorway to go to the phone.

The first major decision of the action had arrived -- should we take
advantage of the opportunity and enter the office, risking arrest for a
federal trespassing charge, before the main media event we had planned
had a chance to play out? We had made the decision beforehand that we
would risk arrest on the shopping center sidewalk for a local criminal
trespass charge, but not occupy the offices or block the entrances
involving a federal charge, as this might be a felony (though we were
advised by one attorney just an hour before the action that this would
be a misdemeanor, though still a federal charge).

I hesitated, I thought about our agreement and the main body of our
folks waiting to do the main part of our action, and I decided to step
out of the doorway. The Marine immediately ran over and locked the
door.

The media asked, what would we do now? We were prepared for this, and
told them we would return another time to deliver this information to
the recruiters, "When they would let us in and felt they did not have
to hide from the truth."

The advance team returned to the staging area to join the main group,
and with "the undying love and devotion of a mother for her child, and
the fierceness of warriors defending their homes," we marched in single
file, our placards turned out of sight, to the area directly in front
of the recruitment center. At the head of the line, I saw people coming
out from the shops, curious and a little nervous. I walked right up to
the two Indian fellows from the Indian restaurant adjacent to the
recruiters offices, shook their hands, and explained that we were there
to peacefully protest the war. Their eyes were filled with tenderness
as they smiled, saying "Thank you! We support you! We support you!" As
Willow passed by them and they could see the placards, she noticed they
seemed particularly moved by the images of dark skinned women, like
them, clutching their maimed children.

We lined up in a row, and then our media spokesperson Karla Cohen
announced to the press our "human slide show," that would show images
of the war hidden from the American people and potential recruits by
the mainstream media and the recruiters. Silently, one after another,
we revealed the images. The public and reporters were visibly shaken.
The cameras rolled and clicked. We stood with resolute determination
and a solemn respect for the victims of this senseless brutal war. When
all of the 32 images were on display, Karla said, "We want the American
media to show the truth about the war, and we want the recruiters to
tell potential recruits the truth about what they are getting
themselves into."   Then we went down the line, and those of us who
wished to, made brief personal statements from their hearts about what
moved them to be there. Powerful statements came from our deepest
feelings and beliefs, tears were shed, and all who wanted to speak had
the opportunity to, and the media paid attention.

I remember saying that "We have full faith in the essential goodness
and the conscience of the American people, and if these images were
shown in America's livingrooms every night, the war would be over in a
week."

Several veterans spoke eloquently, including Hank Dizney, who said the
recruitment process was deceptive and dishonorable, and that he
resented this as an American citizen.

Gordi Albi, a representative of Faith in Action, an alliance of several
church groups and other spiritual traditions, said, "Ask the recruiters
how much commission they get for each person they sign up."

Many more people spoke eloquently and with tremendous emotion as we
went down the line. The recruiters had shut off the lights and either
gone home or stayed hidden in the back of their offices.   It was time
to declare our success. I said to everyone present that we scored two
victories today -- we had shut down the recruitment center (cheers went
up!) and that we had succeeded in establishing our right to protest at
a "private property" shopping center where we were told we would be
arrested, and had therefore forced the police to yield (more
cheers!).

Later we were to discover even more success from the action. Our action
became the lead story on all three major TV networks in Eugene, we
received excellent coverage on radio outlets, and we were the cover
story in the City/Region section of the following day's Register Guard.
The TV stations and the Register Guard showed some of the graphic
images we wanted to get in front of the eyes of the public. And maybe
best of all, we built a strong feeling of love and solidarity among the
people in our group, made new allies in the public and the media, and
experienced a well deserved feeling of standing tall and acting on our
convictions in the face of significant risk to ourselves.

The party that night at World Cafe, where we watched a home video of
the action made by John Melia, was one of the greatest times I can ever
recall.  We won a victory today, a badly needed victory in this
struggle to save the soul of our nation, and my goodness did it feel
good.   Come join us Monday nights at 8 pm at the Friends Meeting
House, 2274 Onyx St, Eugene, as we continue our efforts to make history
and stop the war.

Faced with wilting recruitment and ongoing violence in Iraq, Army and Marine
Corps recruiters are turning their attention to those most likely to oppose
them: parents.





The two branches are shifting from a strategy that focused first on wooing
potential recruits to one aimed at gaining the trust and attention of their
parents by using grassroots initiatives and multimillion-dollar advertising
campaigns.

The public relations push comes as the Army and Marines, which absorb the brunt
of the casualties in Iraq, encounter one of their worst periods in recruitment.

Among their initiatives:

• Four new "influencer" TV ads by the Army, aimed at moms, dads, coaches and
ministers. The ads air this month.

• A decision to pair Army recruiters with Iraq and Afghanistan veterans on
visits to the homes of potential recruits. The idea: Tell parents "the Army
story," says Army spokeswoman Lt. Col. Pamela Hart.

• A nine-minute video, "Parents Speak," in which parents of Marines say the
Corps has been good for their children.

• A direct-mail campaign by the Marines to parents of high school juniors and
seniors. The Marines highlight the benefits of joining and ask for an
opportunity to talk to the students' parents about a military career.

Studies for the Army show parents are the top obstacles to recruiting.
"Opposition to ... military service is increasing significantly among both moms
and dads," says a study of 1,200 potential recruits by the firm Millward Brown.

Another look at potential recruits, by GfK Custom Research, found that the
biggest influences in candidates' decisions to join were mothers, named by 81%
of respondents, followed by fathers, at 70%.

"Reach the parents with the Army's new message, particularly moms," the study
urges.

Both branches are trying to convince parents their children will be instilled
with integrity and job skills and that service in Iraq is not a death sentence.

Still, recruitment numbers sag. In February, the Army missed its recruiting goal
for the first time in nearly five years. The Army missed its March goal by 32%.

A planned CIA recruiting event at New York University (NYU) was
cancelled after the Campus Antiwar Network (CAN) called a protest
demanding the CIA abandon its recruiting program at NYU. 20 hours
before the recruiting event was scheduled to begin, its organizers
sentan email to all those who had registered, headlined, "The CIA
Speaker Event scheduled for Thursday, March 31 @6PM has been
CANCELLED due to the possibility of a protest by the Campus Antiwar
Network."

The event -- which was scheduled to include speakers from the CIA, a
dinner, and a raffle for prizes such as an iPod Shuffle -- was
organized by students in an NYU marketing class whose classwork for
the semester is to market the CIA to their peers at NYU. They will be
graded on their efforts; the CIA, which provided them a $2500 budget
for their project, retains ownership of the marketing campaign they
create. The CIA hired the company EdVenture Partners to broker this
arrangement.

This alliance between the university and the CIA to market CIA
employment on campus is taking place at only two universities this
semester: NYU and the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA).
Students at both schools have rallied in protest against the program.

"We believe they're testing the waters to see how brazenly they can
recruit on campuses without encountering student opposition, before
spreading programs like this to colleges across the country," said
Elizabeth Wrigley-Field, a senior at NYU and member of the Campus
Antiwar Network. "Forcing them to cancel their big speaking event is a
huge victory. It showed them they can't market an agency that supports
torture and murder around the world without a fight."

After the event was cancelled, about twenty students rallied in
celebration outside the building where it was scheduled to have been
held, passing out fact sheets about the CIA's history of assassination
attempts and support for brutal dictatorships. Ten students went to
challenge the event's organizers to a public debate on campus about
the CIA -- an offer which was declined.

"Their marketing campaign says they want to 'dispel the myths' about
the CIA," said David Florey, a senior at NYU and member of the Campus
Antiwar Network. "But they refused our offer to debate. They can't
dispel the reality of the CIA's own practices. It's not a myth that
the CIA organized the program in Afghanistan that trained Osama bin
Laden."


PART OF A NATIONAL COUNTER-RECRUITMENT MOVEMENT

NYU's protest comes in the context of a counter-recruitment movement
that has swept colleges and high schools across the country. Students
at schools ranging from Seattle Central Community College and San
Francisco State University on the West Coast, to City College New York
and and Southern Connecticut State University on the East Coast, have
chased military recruiters off their campus this schoolyear.

Expensive private colleges like NYU don't get the same kinds of
military recruiters. The only recruiters NYU has seen this year came
from the Judge Advocate General (the legal arm of the military), which
faced protest from NYU students opposed to the discriminatory Don't
Ask, Don't Tell and the prosecution of war resisters. But students at
NYU see their CIA Off Campus campaign as a contribution to the
national counter-recruitment movement.

"We know that because of the general affluence of the students at NYU,
direct military recruitment will never be as fruitful as the
government would hope, but in the past few months, we¹ve seen a
significant increase in the presence of OTHER forms of recruitment
for militaristic operations," said Sam Pipp, a sophomore at NYU and
member of the Campus Antiwar Network. "This CIA recruitment in the
guise of a class represents a campaign of sorts on the part of the
government to pull as many as they can into the military machine."

"We're here as part of a growing counter-recruitment movement that has
the potential to stop Bush's ability to carry out his agenda of war
and terror," said Leia Petty, a member of the Campus Antiwar Network,
at the protest. "We're here to say that torture and terror are not
career opportunities, and we don't intend to back down until the CIA
drops all efforts to recruit at NYU."


THIS PROTEST IS JUST THE BEGINNING

Two days before NYU's protest, students at UTPA had protested the CIA
recruiting event at their campus, where the CIA is explicitly
marketing itself as an employer of choice for Latinos. "I think the
students in the marketing  class are naive to think they're offering
any opportunity to Hispanics," said Samantha Garcia, president of
Students for Peace and Justice and the University Socialist Forum at
UTPA, two groups that protested the CIA. Garcia noted the CIA's
history of involvement in Latin America, such as its involvement in
the overthrow of Chile's left-wing leader Salvador Allende and its
support of Nicaragua's Contras.

At both schools, students plan to keep fighting the CIA presence and
opposing the U.S. occupation in Iraq, which they see as intimately
connected. "Bush says we're bringing democracy to Iraq," Wrigley-Field
said. "But the history of the CIA shows the U.S. is the last country
that can bring democracy anywhere."

military personnel panel, said ..." There were a lot of signs that people felt
they were being overworked, but they weren’t heeded. Now, the word is out on the
street that if you join the military, you are going to be overworked and
overstressed.”

universe of people interested” in military service, he said.......

The Army’s recruiting goal has increased substantially in the past two years,
Gilroy said. The service began 2004 with a goal to sign up 72,000 recruits. As
the year progressed and decision-makers ordered an increase in the overall size
of the force, the recruiting target was increased to 77,000. For 2005, the
recruiting target has been increased again to 80,000 new soldiers. Meanwhile,
the Army is adding 1,000 soldiers to the recruiting force, for a total of about
7,600 active-duty NCOs.

“The Army’s also facing &shy; as are the other services too, of course &shy; an
expanded economy,” Gilroy said. “It’s not like the hot economy back in the late
’90s, but it’s still ... expanding. That makes it difficult for the services to
recruit. The Marine Corps is feeling it as well.”

Washington (CNSNews.com) - Anti-war protesters in the nation's capital Thursday
sought to exploit the Pentagon's manpower problems by demonstrating outside an
Armed Forces Recruiting Center and declaring their support for soldiers refusing
duty in Iraq.

The protest, first at Lafayette Square across the street from the White House
and then at the recruiting center several blocks away, occurred three days short
of the second anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

Activists, who claimed that military recruits are being deceived by the
contracts they sign, used their own signatures to "intentionally break the law,"
according to protester Ellen Barfield.

She and others affixed their signatures to a giant-sized version of a
declaration voicing support for "soldiers who are refusing orders to Iraq." Such
declarations are illegal, Barfield said, because they violate U.S. code
prohibiting vocal support for soldiers refusing duty. According to the
statement signed by the anti-war demonstrators, the U.S. military action in Iraq
is "an illegal war and our country has committed war crimes there."

"We were intentionally breaking that law," Barfield said, "knowing we had very
little risk of any legal consequences, but taking that small risk upon ourselves
to show our very strong support and encouragement to soldiers who we know so
many of them are having tremendous ... difficulties with their conscience."

Protestors attempted to leave their signed declaration at the White House, but
gate guards refused to accept it and the anti-war group then left for the
recruiting office. Anti-war demonstrations are also planned for New York City,
Wisconsin, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Indiana on Saturday, the actual
second anniversary of the date the American military
began trying to topple Saddam Hussein's regime.

"This is a war about controlling oil and controlling the world, not about any
threat Iraq posed," the 48-year-old Barfield, who is from Baltimore, Md., told
the crowd. She told Cybercast News Service that the group was protesting
military recruiters, not soldiers, in spite of some of the
"horribly terrible things" they are doing in Iraq.

One sign placed on a window outside the recruiting center featured a graphic
picture of a bloodied Iraqi girl whose parents, according to the anti-war
protesters, had been killed by U.S.-led coalition forces.

Barfield said that joining the U.S. military is "a personal choice, but the
whole business of doing counter-recruiting is to make sure young people know
exactly what it's all about." Potential recruits are given an unrealistic
picture of military life, she said, by recruiting officers who act like salesmen
and "only tell the glowing, shiny part of military service.

"They don't tell what it's really like," Barfield alleged.

Barfield said she would not try to prevent a potential recruit from entering the
office, which was closed at the time of the demonstration and guarded by five
policemen and a bomb squad representative. She added, however, that she would do
her best to counter-recruit. "If you decide it's for you, okay, that's your
decision," she said.

Other protestors were not so generous. Luke Kuhn, 39, said he would probably
"try to block them away from the door." Although there is no military draft in
the U.S., Kuhn, who is from Rockville, Md., warned that one could be imposed in
the future because "Bush is a fool." In the event anyone ever arrives at Kuhn's
home with a draft notice, "they would be
fired on," he warned.

During the protest, Kuhn announced that "this recruiting station is hereby
closed.

"Close the gates of hell," he shouted. The weekend protests are targeting
recruiting offices because "their recruiting is weak," Kuhn said, pointing to
recent news reports indicating that the Pentagon was failing to meet its
recruiting goals.

Kuhn echoed Barfield's claim that the war in Iraq was about control of oil. He
explained that gas prices are reaching record highs because "they have lost the
oil war." The United States can't pump oil from Iraq, Kuhn alleged, "Because the
freedom fighters blow up the pipelines."

The recruiting office was closed prior to the protestors' arrival and police
removed reporters trying to interview military representatives in the office.
One officer who did not give his name explained that they were wary of
protestors who might pose as reporters to gain access to the building.

Police intervened only once when they told Kuhn to extinguish a small fire he
had set. Kuhn was burning a mock draft card. No arrests were made during the
demonstration.

Representatives from the recruiting office declined to comment on the scene and
did not appear outside the building, which remained locked and dark almost an
hour after protestors had left.

Most passersby seemed undistracted by the signs the protesters left behind,
which criticized the president and by the yellow ribbons marked with the names
of soldiers killed in combat.

Rob Neff, a 20-year old student from Florida, called the protest "sad." Neff
said the protestors are "ignorant in a way, because the guys (soldiers) are
supporting their very right to come out here and make their statement right
here."

Protestors didn't seem to notice when Neff attempted to enter the recruiting
office. Police told him the office was closed and were not sure when or whether
it would reopen on Thursday.

The AFSC National Youth and Militarism Program works to reduce the impacts of
war and military institutions on young people's lives. We aim to halt the
growing influence of the military in US schools and help students and educators
work for peace and better education in their communities. We also support those
who refuse to participate in militarism and work to expand every person's right
to walk away from war and violence.

We lead counter-recruitment trainings and workshops, conduct research,
distribute literature, and support grassroots educational and
counter-recruitment organizing efforts.

Currently, the focus of our work is to challenge the presence of military
recruiters in the nation's high schools and to raise awareness among students

   Susan Van Houten says her son faces a regular barrage of military recruiting
at his Palm Beach County high school. She doesn't like it and can't stop it, but
she wants parents to know they can mount a defense against some less-obvious
recruiting off campus.

Van Houten, whose family lives west of Lake Worth, was among four protesters in
a rain-soaked rally Thursday outside school district headquarters in Palm
Springs to target so-called "stealth recruiting" of their teenage children
during wartime.

The 2001 federal No Child Left Behind law enables recruiters from the U.S. armed
services to obtain high school students' names, addresses and telephone numbers
from their schools. Outspoken opponents, primarily peace-group activists, charge
that it's a sneaky way of reaching prospective recruits.

But the law states that students or parents can opt out of this disclosure if
they sign a form. A Palm Beach County School Board policy requires the opt-out
forms be returned within 10 days after high school student handbooks are
distributed.

"A lot of people have had problems finding out about the opt-out," said Deborah
Smith, spokeswoman for a new group, the Opt-Out Project, which has a Delray
Beach mailing address. "We don't think the schools have done an adequate job.
We're just trying to shed some light on it."

The protesters called on the school district to send the opt-out forms home with
all juniors and seniors and to allow the forms to be submitted at any time.

Following a demonstration Thursday afternoon, district spokesman Nat Harrington
said the 10-day requirement likely would be waived.

"If we don't need it, we're not going to have it," he said, also promising that
the district would "find ways" of telling students and parents they have the
option of guarding their personal information.

"We don't know if it being placed in the handbook is sufficient," Harrington
said.

As the war in Iraq has dragged on, peace groups in the county have been fighting
to gain access to school campuses in an effort to gain equal time with military
recruiters. Palm Beach Area Draft Counseling, a Quaker-sponsored anti-war group,
wants to put "peace recruiters" in cafeterias, career fairs, assemblies,
classrooms and JROTC classes -- all places where uniformed military
representatives are welcome.

Van Houten, who has a 16-year-old son at Palm Beach Central High and a
14-year-old son at Polo Park Middle in Wellington, charges that military
recruiters tell only one side of the story.

"They come in with the Hummers and boom boxes and music and giveaways," she
said. "These kids don't hear about the soldiers that come back limbless.
Whatever [recruiters] are offering on the front end, they are taking away at the
back end."

ARMS DEALERS DROP LEGAL BOMBSHELL ON PROTESTERS

A number of Brighton anti-war activists from the Smash Edo
campaign were presented with a summons to attend the
High Court on 14th April.

EDO/MBM Ltd, who manufacture bomb components for F-16s
used in the Iraq war, are seeking an injunction to prevent
campaigners from protesting outside their factory in Brighton.

The injunction is sought by solicitors firm Lawson-Cruttenden & Co.

The summons follows the recent acquittal of three activists
accused of aggravated trespass on EDO's premises.

EDO also recently withdrew a threatened libel action against
Indymedia over being named as "warmongers".

It is believed that the injunction served under the 1997
Protection from Harassment Act (originally designed to protect
women from stalkers) is the first of its kind directed at activists
outside of the animal rights movement.

If granted it would create an "exclusion zone" outside of EDO's
premises on Home Farm Industrial Estate as well as banning
any protests outside homes of directors and employees of the
company (over 160 addresses)!

The company will allow protests to take place on Thursday
afternoons for two hours provided those protesting number
no more than ten and are silent.

The blanket nature of the injunction sought could affect
Hundreds of people involved in the Peace Movement in
Brighton and would in effect be a control order, placed against
"persons unknown".

Tom Gittoes named on the summons said

"I will fight this injunction. It's sickening that in a UN Peace
Messenger City, the local police and an arms company are
colluding to prevent peaceful protest. This is typical of EDO's
contempt for human rights. They've used every trick in the
book including covert photography and serving the summons
on a Bank Holiday weekend when we can't get legal advice."

Lorna Marcham (also named) added

"It is clear that this injunction is an attempt to strangle our
right to protest, EDO don't want attention drawn to their role
in the death of civilians in the illegal war in Iraq"

What Does it Mean?
Reports are reaching us today, from Russian Intelligence sources, which say that
the United States Military Secret Police Force, the Strategic Support Branch
(SSB), and modeled after the Nazi Military's Secret Military Police Force known
as the Schutzstaffel (SS), has begun operations in the United States to suppress
the growing instances of internal dissent to that countries military regime.

This is the first instance, to our knowledge, that the American SSB has begun
their long-expected reign of terror upon the American people with this past
weekend's bombing in the United States region of Colorado of a small village
named Paonia, and of which, three children were murdered.

From the The Denver Post, we can read in their report titled "Paonia grieves for
child victims of lodge blast," that says, "authorities sifted for bodies and
clues Monday in the charred rubble of a mountain lodge while family and
townspeople grieved for the three youngsters believed killed in Saturday's
explosion. "These were all our children," said Mildred Hudspeth, a 68-year-old
homemaker who was shopping downtown Monday afternoon. Hudspeth said she cried
Sunday morning when she heard that the children apparently perished in the blast
or the fire that followed."

Not being reported about this event to the American people however is the true
reason that this small village had been targeted by the SSB.

As reported by the United States Organization called "Bill Of Rights Defense
Committee," this small and courageous American village had dare to challenge
their militaristic leaders by the passing of a Resolution denouncing their loss
of freedoms and further instructing their local police forces to, and as their
Resolution states:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TOWN OF PAONIA,
COLORADO:
1) The Town of Paonia has been, and remains, firmly committed to the protection
of civil rights and liberties for all people.

2) The Town of Paonia affirms the following principles:
a. Every person has the right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure,
as clearly stated in the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution.

b. Neither stops, nor arrests may be made without establishing reasonable
suspicion or probable cause that a crime has been committed or is about to be
committed.

c. Every person has a right to equal protection under the law and the right not
to be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law, and

d. Every person has the right to free speech and freedom of association as
provided under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution and court
opinions thereon.

3) That when the Paonia Police Department engage in public safety intelligence
gathering as part of law enforcement and of national security, it intends such
intelligence gathering comply with the following policy: no information about
political, religious or social views, associations, or activities shall be
collected unless the information relates to public safety concerns or suspicion
of criminal activity or the potential for criminal activity.

4) That the Town of Paonia affirms it commitment to human and civil rights and
to unbiased policing as expressed in the policies of the Paonia Police
Department, which firmly adheres to the principle that no law enforcement
agency, or other Town agency may profile or discriminate against any person
solely on the basis of ancestry, race, ethnicity, national origin, color, age
sex, sexual orientation, gender variance, marital status, physical or mental
disability, or religion, nor shall Town agencies assist other agencies in
practices that violate these policies.

5) That the Town of Paonia affirms its strong opposition to terrorism, yet also
affirms that any efforts to end terrorism should not be waged at the expense of
essential civil rights and liberties of the people of the Town of Paonia, the
United States of America and the World.

6) That the Paonia Town Clerk attest and affix the seal of the Town of Paonia to
this Resolution and that a copy be transmitted to President George W. Bush,
Attorney General Alfredo Gonzales, and Governor Bill Owens.

To the militaristic rulers of the United States there is much fear towards their
rural areas as the American citizens who live in them are seen to be more and
more resisting their loss of freedoms, increasing un-payable debts, loss of
jobs, petty laws to numerous to name, know, or ever have hope of being obeyed
and the continuing march of conquest throughout the world their military leaders
are intent upon.

As reported this past January, 2005, about the SSB, and as reported by The
Washington Post in their article titled, "Secret Unit Expands Rumsfeld's
Domain/New Espionage Branch Delving Into CIA Territory," it is said, "The
Pentagon, expanding into the CIA's historic bailiwick, has created a new
espionage arm and is reinterpreting U.S. law to give Defense Secretary Donald H.
Rumsfeld broad authority over clandestine operations abroad, according to
interviews with participants and documents obtained by The Washington Post. The
previously undisclosed organization, called the Strategic Support Branch, arose
from Rumsfeld's written order to end his "near total dependence on CIA."

Ever mindful to make sure that they are following the ëlawí in this latest
crackdown on internal dissent, and exactly like their Nazi Germany counterparts
of the last century who were equally fastidious towards their laws, a United
States historical organization named the Center for Cooperative Research, has
detailed the significance of the SSB and its military organization by showing,
[These types of organizations] must report to Congress all deployment orders, or
formal instructions from the Joint Chiefs of Staff to position US forces for
combat. But [the guidelines] … state that special operations forces (SSB) may
ëconduct clandestine HUMINT operations … before publication of a deployment
order, rendering notification unnecessary. Pentagon lawyers also define the "war
on terror"as ongoing, indefinite and global in scope.

Not being understood by many naive Americans this evening is that their own
country, the United States, is a part of the "globe," and as the grieving
mothers and grandmothers in Paonia, Colorado can well attest to as they lay
their dead babies into the ground.

To the power of this new American secret police unit, the SSB, to follow only
those laws they choose, or none at all, is again a repeat of their Nazi
counterparts, and as we can read about them from the British History Learning
Site, and which says:

"In Nazi Germany, the police were allowed to arrest people on suspicion that
they were about to do wrong. This gave the police huge powers. All local police
units had to draw up a list of people in their locality who might be suspected
of being "Enemies of the State." This list was given to the Gestapo — the Secret
Police. The Gestapo had the power to do as it liked. In 1936, the Gestapo Law
meant that the activities of the Gestapo were free from any review by courts of
law. This law effectively meant that the Gestapo became a law unto themselves.
This non-uniformed branch of the SS became justifiably feared just as the
visible presence of the black uniformed SS men did."

To even watch on television the scenes from American life today is like looking
back into the darkest parts of Nazi Germany where always there was the presence
of the Black Suited, Nazi Helmeted and machine gun carrying Police Forces. And
not to the protection of the American people these Black Suited SSB forces are
either! But, and again, like their Nazi counterparts of last century these Black
Police Forces are for the protection of their government buildings against their
own citizens, the smashing into of their citizens home in the dark of night to
remove them to the camps of labor and extermination, the barrier that stands
between the citizens of America and their ability to travel, but most of all
because of the fearful image, and reminder, they serve to a population that all
resistance is futile against them.

To the brave souls of the small village of Paonia, Colorado though, and as their
babies are laid to rest, not even the fearful retribution by their brutal
military authorities was able to stop them from proclaiming their rights as free
people.

They should never be forgotten by the world, and it is assured that the American
people themselves do not even know about this, and even if they did would not
care. Because as I had previously stated to you in my report titled "Like Nazi
Germany, And To the World's Horror, the United States Begins Murders of Sick
Children and Disabled," news has reached us once again that shows the American
peoples intention to begin the mass slaughter of their disabled by the
continuing starving to death of an invalid against the wishes of her crying
parents.

How well these insane Americans have learned the math problem found in every
Nazi Germany school child's book: "To keep a mentally-ill person costs
approximately 4 marks a day. There are 300,000 mentally ill people in care. How
much do these people cost to keep in total? How many marriage loans of 1000
marks could be granted with this money?"

In Remembrance of these American Martyrs: Isaac Michael Watkins, age 2; Leslie
Ann Bilbrey, age 12; Jamie Marie Reade, age 16. We must never forget.

Today I took a little ride down the rabbit hole again. I kind of lost the rabbit
and Morfius and I ended up on another "Indymedia" radio station. They were
talking about the story reported by the Russian Intelligence where the U.S.
Secret Police Forces (SSB) modeled after the Nazi Military’s Secret Military
Police Force known as the Schutzstaffel (SS), bombed a "dissident" small
American Village, killing three children in Paonia, Colorado. These people were
honorable American citizens with the courage to make a stand to protect their
God-given rights from this "Gestapo" government — The Rights that are protected
under the United States of America Constitution, which this Bushite Regime has
denounced along with many other Treaties and International Laws!

This small and courageous American village had dared to challenge their
militaristic leaders by the passing of a Resolution denouncing their loss of
freedoms and further instructing their local police forces to denounce them as
well.

The Nazi Military’s Secret Military Police Force known as the Schutzstaffel (SS)
that were in Germany at that time, would spy on its citizens listening to
private conversations and get other citizens to spy on each other also…remember
the story of Anne Frank?

It wasn’t 6,000, 000 people that died in the Holocaust, it was 18,000,000. A lot
of them were my relatives, Gypsies, Russians, Transylvanians, and Romanians.

It has taken a Russian newspaper to tell us about the U.S. Secret Police Forces
(SSB) or the (American Schutzstaffel!) What does that tell you? Remember, back
in Nazi Germany the people were led to be so afraid that they did not question
authority or the government for fear of being killed or worse, tortured and then
killed! The American SSB has begun their reign of terror upon the American
people to suppress the growing instances of internal dissent to this country's
military regime.

legislation are the credit card companies who wrote it word for word,
and the elite corporate frauds who still get to keep their precious
asset protection trusts.  The rest of us, regardless of medical

left to the mercy of unlimited interest rates and compounding late

They didn't even have the common decency of raising the minimum wage
or extend some protection for the elderly to protect the home they
may have lived in all their lives.  Every possible amendment that
might have brought some fairness or balance to this drastic revision
of the law was shot down by the Senate.

What's not to hate about this bill?  It creates such a legal
minefield that the cost of filing for bankruptcy must dramatically
increase, all the while the credit card corporate campaign
contributors have nearly TRIPLED their profits in the last 10 years
to over $31 billion dollars.  Democrats.com already has their own

Moderate commentators have called this bill "heinous, despicable and
inhumane", a "debt slavery" law.  But what do you say?  What will it

tricks in the middle of the night to grandstand and exploit a family
tragedy, but when are they going to show some backbone to fight for

Phthalates in plastic toys and baby products
Phthalates are chemical substances that make PVC plastic soft and flexible.
Among many other things, they are used in soft plastic toys and other baby
products, such as teething rings. Phthalates leach out of plastic over time.
Because children have a natural tendency to suck on objects as a way of
exploring the world around them, these phthalates can then enter their bodies.

Phthalates have been shown to have negative effects on human health:
- Effects may disturb hormones and reproduction.

- Exposure may be linked to liver and kidney damage.

- Exposure can also interfere with normal development of a fetus or child.

- Some phthalates may cause allergy and even cancer.

At least twelve countries have already banned or are phasing out phthalates to
protect children's health, and several of the leading manufacturers of toys and
baby products in the US have restricted the use of phthalates over the last few
years as a result of health concerns. However, there are still many products on
the market that do contain phthalates, and there is no law requiring the
chemicals' phase-out.

Bisphenol-A in plastic feeding bottles
Bisphenol-A is an industrial chemical that is used to make polycarbonate
plastic. It can be found in water bottles, micro-wave ovenware and eating
utensils, as well as in baby feeding bottles. This has caused concern since
Bisphenol-A can leach out of the products and affect human health.

Studies show that Bisphenol-A at very low levels can cause endocrine disrupting
effects, meaning it can affect our hormones. Some studies indicate connections
between Bisphenol-A and conditions such as obesity, ADHD, disruption of the
thyroid system and cancer.
Several studies have documented that Bisphenol-A can leach out of baby feeding
bottles. The leaching appears to be worse if the bottle is old or scratched, or
made of a lower quality material.

Several major bottle producers, such as Evenflo and Medela, make plastic bottles
without Bisphenol-A. However, most major US baby bottle manufacturers use
Bisphenol-A in their production, and there is no law prohibiting its use.

The Sacred Chrysalis

Humanity approaches the Shift of the Ages that has long been foretold. We
are asked to create a world of compassion, fairness, stewardship, love and
enlightenment. We are invited to awaken in order to heal our planetary home, our
selves and our souls.

We can no longer sustain endless war, violence, crime, poverty,
deforestation, soil erosion, extinction of half of the world's creatures and the
loss of
the rain forests. Nor can we continue to pollute air, land and sea and expect
to survive. The countdown has already begun. Will humanity choose life or
will it choose death?

Just as the caterpillar must weave and then dwell within its chrysalis
without knowing what will happen next, humanity's destiny calls us to this most
sacred task without our knowing what is yet to be. Humanity must move deeply
within, to the place where all things begin. To do so, we must first weave and
enter the sacred chrysalis that will keep us safe and secure while a benevolent
and wiser humanity evolves. A trembling humanity grows still and silent.
Gradually, humanity lets go of its old patterns, beliefs and structures of hate,
control, domination, greed and duality. One by one, we release them all. As
our distorted, limited ideas dissolve and fade; we realize that we are not who
we used to be. We grow aware that our imaginal cells have begun to grow. Our
imaginal cells create a new scaffold and foundation upon which a sacred
humanity will unfold.

Two separate paths stand before us. Which one will humanity choose? One
pathway does not enter the chrysalis. Instead, it leads to a dangerous precipice
and descends into chaos and despair. An inhospitable Earth awaits. The
weary travelers find only a ravished, devastated Earth that can no longer
provide
for their needs. At the end of this pathway lies an evolutionary dead-end,
extinction and humankind's demise. None who walk this path will escape the
consequences of their pillage and destruction of Earth's fragile biosphere.

For those trembling yet, awakened souls, a second road beckons from within
the sacred chrysalis. It is here that humanity will experience the cosmic Dance
of Shiva, the eternal dance of birth and death. Here, energy embraces matter
and matter embraces energy. Inside the chrysalis, a living, hopeful humanity
falls apart and magically comes together in a more sophisticated, innovative
and noble way. Humanity grows aware that every birth is a letting go and
dying to a previous self and a way of being in the world. Every birth serves as
an evolutionary bridge to another level of awareness that bestows new
personhood and possibilities.

Travelers upon this second pathway seek the gifts of expanded consciousness
and a peaceful world. When the moment ripens, they will birth themselves into
a world of spirit, abundance and endless possibilities for both inner and
outer peace. As an awakened humanity evolves within the sacred chrysalis, the
outer world that awaits their arrival will reflect and echo these radical new
changes as well. Then will the Shift of the Ages occur, and a sacred humanity
walk upon a bountiful and blessed planet for the very first time.

Once upon a time, the gift of human consciousness transformed Homo Sapien I
into Homo Sapien II. This is how present day humanity came to be. Once Upon a
second time, the gifts of an evolved and noble consciousness stirs within the
sacred chrysalis, awaiting the transformation of Homo Sapien II into a more
benevolent Butterfly species. Then will humankind learn to fly and see beyond
the veil of forgetting. Then will our species achieve new understanding and
know themselves truly as humankind for the very first time.

And so it happens, a creature unlike any that has ever walked upon Earth is
born. Its attributes and perceptions are new and finely honed. This Humanity
has come to Earth to teach and to know Love.

As a triumphant and loving Humanity at last emerges from the sacred
chrysalis, a delighted Universe bestows the gifts of expanded consciousness,
everlasting life, inner peace and unconditional love upon them. No longer will
Earth
experience war and pestilence. No longer will Earth face destruction, pollution
or annihilation. No longer will the animals, plants, trees, winged ones,
swimming ones and crawling ones tremble and fear for their lives. By embracing
Butterfly consciousness, Humankind accepts Universe's gifts and becomes the
sacred vessels for a new specieshood. The birth of a spiritual and loving
Humanity manifests a radically new world.

With the acceptance of Butterfly consciousness, Humanity awakens the divine
feminine who stirs within each of us. She is healer, redeemer and resurrector;
a symbol of Humanity's spiritual birth and transformation. Her awakening
and evolution, in concert with the inner transformation that has occurred within
the sacred chrysalis, bestows a new heaven upon Earth. Humankind again sits
within the circle of All That Is. Earth rejoices, the Angels sing, the Sun
smiles, and healing begins. Let us make it so.

Helpful Definitions:

Butterfly consciousness:
This is a new, fifth dimensional paradigm that recognizes our current systems
are too limiting, too self destructive and much too unwieldy for these
emerging times. It is an open system based upon a new awareness of our planetary
and cosmic destiny and the concept of syntropy. Butterfly consciousness calls
forth the divine feminine. She is healer, redeemer and resurrector of Earth and
humanity. Butterfly consciousness is not fear based. Rather, it is

Imaginal Cells:
Once in the chrysalis, the infrastructure of the caterpillar begins to fall
apart. Imaginal cells appear and resonate at a different frequency than
ordinary caterpillar cells. “They are so are totally different from the
caterpillar
cells that his immune system things they are enemies ... and gobbles them
up..... But these new imaginal cells continue to appear. More and more of them!
Pretty soon, the caterpillar's immune system cannot destroy them fast enough.
More and more of the imaginal cells survive. And then an amazing thing
happens! The little tiny lonely imaginal cells start to clump together, into
friendly little groups. They all resonate together at the same frequency,
passing
information from one to another. Then, after a while, another amazing thing
happens! The clumps of imaginal cells start to cluster together! A long string
of clumping and clustering imaginal cells, all resonating at the same
frequency, all passing information from one another there inside the
chrysalis.�
Together, the imaginal cells create the infrastructure of the butterfly. And so

Entropy, in thermodynamics, is a measure of the capacity of an isolated,
closed macroscopic system for change. Can be negative or positive energy
entropy.
As heat increases, all such energy systems eventually become less efficient,
lose coherence, and gradually come to an end.

Syntropy is the opposite; an open, flexible system. Energy is considered
infinite and continually renewing itself, and systems have the potential to move
towards increased complexity and order.

Our circle is a Rainbow Circle, no longer interested in perpetuating Them vs
Us mentality. We are for peaceful co-existence with all of nature. Our wish
is for Peace with Earth and Peace on Earth.

As I read the stories I will add one of my own. When my second son was
married in our garden, as the Rabbi and Priest made their benediction, a
caterpillar came across the lawn and walked between the bride and groom and
stayed for
the remainder of their wedding vows.

Will look into memory for Butterfly story. Mostly butterflies are an
important personal symbol for me and my family always gives butterflies in one
form
or another to me for various occasions. I am the family's Butterfly lady.
Also, as mentioned earlier, I write about the Sacred Chyrsalis in which
Humanity's future presently resides. It is my hope we emerge from our Chrysalis
a more
humane and evolved species.

Bio: Joyce is married and the mother of four grown children and grandmother
of two. Joyce is an identical twin and Mother of a set of fraternal twins and
has written a children's book, "The Reluctant Twin." She went to college
after 17+ years of marriage and four children, earning a Ph.D. in Anatomy as

Reconnect with your spiritual source daily. Use the Infinite Being meditation,
or your own meditation technique, the first thing every day. Make it a habit, a
part of your morning routine.

End your meditation session by spending time in gratitude for life, nature and
the Infinite Being from which you materialized. Let a sense of gratitude for
everything in your life fill your heart.

Then, intend world peace and enlightenment. Send this intention out into the
world as love energy through the heart chakra just in front of your breastbone.

Powerful acts of creation all have three essential components - intent, feeling
and motion. Those are the only three tools which Infinite Being used to create

So far you have set the first component;

(1) Your intention - world peace and enlightenment. You have also set the second
component,

(2) A love-inspired environment - gratitude for the universe and everything in
your life.

Now, it's time for the third component...

(3) Action. It is time to move that energy, in large quantities, into the global
mind atmosphere surrounding the Earth. This is how:

On every in-breath, imagine white light from the Cosmos entering your crown
chakra, above the head, and traveling down your spine to the level of your
heart, then traveling forward into your heart chakra, just in front of your
breastbone.

At the same time, see white light from the Earth entering the base of your spine
and traveling up the spine, then forward, to merge with the cosmic energy in the
heart chakra.

The energies of the Cosmos and the Earth will fuse together and cause an
energetic reaction at the frequency of the heart chakra. This fusion forms a
ball of energetic white light in the heart chakra.

With every out-breath, send the power of this energetic reaction out to the
world. Direct it as a beam of white light from your heart chakra, out into the
world.

Continue this in-breath, out-breath cycle for at least five minutes each morning
and you will not only help heal the world, you will change your entire day for
the better.

The universe reflects who you are. When you practice healing the world, by
automatic reflection, you heal who you are. Any and all issues which have been
challenging for you will move closer towards resolution as you help the world in
this way.

There's nothing like starting your day helping to heal the world in these
critical days of transformation. It's one of those things that brightens your
day and makes you feel good to be alive.

Reading the compilation you sent this morning I just had to write this little
essay. I hope you can use it.

Living in the ruins of Catastrophe

Every day informed citizens have tragedy and turmoil thrown at them. The more
informed they are the larger their intake of this. Blogs, alternative news
sources, conspiracy groups, earth changes links, all provide a steady trough of
fodder at which many feed. We do it voluntarily so that we may know the real
truth, "real" because so often the main stream media ignore the facts.
Nevertheless even the main stream radio, TV and newspapers pummel us enough with
bad news.

We need to know how to deal with this.

Firstly, realise that whatever is outside of you, the bad news, affects you if
it finds a resonance inside. Birds of a feather flock together. In other words
if you feel like dumping on the world the distribution networks will give you
what you want. "It is all going down to ruin" you feel inside and so the outside
input provides confirmation of this.

A woman tells a man friend that whatever she tells her husband goes in one ear
and out the other. Her friend says his wife is the opposite. Whatever goes in
one ear goes immediately out her mouth.

We are mostly like that woman. What interest us we like to share with others. So
when we hear that bird flu will kill 100 million in 2 weeks, or that global
warming is irreversible, or that the Bush gang plan to inflict something on the
world again or whatever the bad news is we repeat it. We join the network of bad
news.

We all know folk who can recite chapter and verse of what went wrong and what
will go wrong in their lives and others. The Internet is a great place for this.
Instant focus on the latest scandal; instant oblivion on that and on to the
next; till one reels unsteadily with the weight one now carries.

We really need a skill to handle this or we become the catastrophe.

Read that last sentence again. We will become the catastrophe. Do you want that
as your future?

Spiritual vaccination!

I don't mean living uninformed in a cocoon of isolatory false optimism, but
practising good emotional hygiene to rid ourselves from inside of the resonances
that latch onto bad news and become fervent spreaders of it. We become what we
dwell on and there is a danger we become that awful virus of tragedy contagion.

So daily we need a hygiene that cleanses us. Meditation etc. I have my routines
that affirm the beauty of life in me and outside me. (See my website
http://www.esotericarts.org under topics.) I listen to the National CBC news,
skim read some of the bad news on the Internet, feel worse, shake my head and
wonder where it will all lead. Then I take my spiritual bath or I look out over
the lake to the trees stretching to the horizon, or the birds at the feeders or
the cat snoozing in the sun and feel so lucky to be here. You don't want to
leave the house carrying all that toxicity and spread it. So practise mental and
emotional hygiene.

The spiritual vaccination comes from any practice that roots you in joy, not as
an escape, but as a fundamental reality.

We have layers of awareness going outside or inside. We can choose our
direction. We can choose our focus. Inside we can feel our Bliss body. This is
not New Age sweet talk. We have an energy layer to ourselves that is Bliss
energy. It is there whether you have one leg, a bad knee, are in danger of bird
flu or whatever.

You learn to communicate with it, to FEEL it. Reading about it, talking about it
doesn't cook the meal. You have to do the work to get there, not just imagining,
faking or wishing. Many of the people who want this aren't prepared to do the
practicing.

What I teach is how to get in contact with your inner energy. It won't happen
without getting the foundations right. Taoist internal alchemy is not wishy
washy. If you want, then you DO. And you keep on practising the doing till you
get it right. Each step in the right direction brings the goal nearer.

I intend soon to write an essay on Meditation as work, Meditation as Fun (Play
or Bliss). One mustn't forget that meditation is also work. Take standing
meditation. It takes grit to do this. I have put lots of hours experiencing this
grit. Now it has become flow and fun. I do 6 different arm positions (see my
book under "topics" for instructions) and hold each one for 7 minutes with the
knees slightly bent and the pelvis dropped (not tucked please). This can be hard
on legs and arms so it takes grit to do. But now I hear the hum and roar of
different energies, the lights in the head and the sense, at times, that the
body vanishes and all that is left is the absorption into That.

My TM has given a deep sense of inner Silence being touched by The Other.
Internal Breathing alchemy allows me with one breath to feel That.

This morning I allowed the energy to come in and move though my energy body,
cleansing, opening, a practice called 'Big Snake uncoils its body'. The chakras
(energy centres) open. There is a centre I have only read about twice. Not part
of the usual 7 chakras. One yogi, into Kundalini, just put it in a diagram,
another peripherally mentioned a bit about it but his followers don't seem to
have made a big deal out of it. Several years ago it opened for me, quite
spontaneously very blissfully and then I remembered the references. When the
attention is there, on it and it glows it is very Blissful. But I don't hear it
mentioned. I am no great shakes so I must assume other mystics have experienced
it but don't talk about it because it is a secret.

When I recently told my class in my School of Esoteric Arts about it, they all
sat back and expected to get the information spoon fed and were surprised when I
said I was keeping the secret at least until they showed some indication of
working harder themselves.

This morning it glowed and I felt wonderful. The energy then moved about in my
brain. There are many centres in the brain that can get enlivened. Afterwards I
felt like I had antenna inside opened up and tuned to all sorts of Bliss
frequencies, like my brain software was generating glowing happiness.

This is Spiritual vaccination. Then you can take on the bad news.

It is your choice; how you spend your time and your energy.

If, as seems very likely, that our world is moving into increasing chaos and
tragedy are you ready? Can you get centred in one breath? If knowing your Bliss
Body is important to handle the incoming energies you will be ready if you can
feel it. If not, maybe you will miss them and the joy or, worse, get fried by
them.

The Easter message is "I, if I be lifted up will draw all men unto Me." Not just
Christ but you too. If you can do this lifting, your "I" will be resplendent.
Your head will be in Heaven your feet rooted on the earth.

If the world goes into any more chaos you will be needed.

Prepare ye the way of the Lord.

How to describe the feeling of gratitude for your compilations and acknowledge
your invaluable contribution to the new consciousness movement that is now
flowing so strongly through many different levels within and beyond our
perception.

Sometimes, it takes two or three days to go through your compilations simply
because they are so detailed and some of the information is just so heavy.  I
have found that it really pays to stay focused on the positive things even while
being aware of all the negativity.

I am delighted to enclose my small contribution to your "Only on Earth" series,
I hope you enjoy it and maybe find a place for it in one of your compilations.

Gardening as a Mind/Body/Planet Interface


In today's life, most people are so busy with earning money, and the many media
oriented electronic distractions that they have an almost non-existent
relationship to our most basic and fundamental life support system - Planet
Earth!!!


This shift of focus away from the vital awareness of humanity's essential
connection with the earth and the natural cycles has resulted in some of the
potentially devastating problems that the world now faces. In addition, this
dislocation of the awareness of the individual from the natural environment
(with which there is an un-severable connection) regardless of perceptions, has
resulted in the myriad of problems to physical & physiological health for both
individuals and the communities that constitute society as a whole.


Changes in the quality and level of the energies now moving through the planet
support shifts in the perceptions of many individuals back towards the reality
of our connectedness to Nature and the living planet that gives our bodies life
during each & every moment.


For those of us affected by this new wave of consciousness, there is a need to
actively align with the process and even to nurture and support its progress...
My advice: ADOPT a tree! The simple process of gardening (indoor as well as
outdoor) provides an accessible and rewarding way of interfacing with the Earth
& Nature. Planting a tree and nurturing it to grow is a healing and rewarding
act, as well as a symbol of hope for us and the future of Gaia. In addition to
the physical processes involved with planting and caring for plants, activity
takes place in the etheric levels as well, whereby the contact with plants can
transform, purify and possibly even amplify natural spiritual energy in the body
bringing other more subtle benefits.

Making a change in life is not difficult, it just requires a few small steps in
the right direction, so if you are already a plant lover, reaffirm your
connection to the plants and adopt one of them as a special case to look after.
If you have a garden, make good use of it. If you live in an apartment, look
into what potted plants would suit you best.


Most of all, take a few minutes each day to look after the plants or just spend
a few quiet moments in their presence to reassure them of your caring about them
and notice how this will enhance your inner feelings and awareness, improve your
health and state of mind and reduce your stress levels.

IT'S BIGGER THAN POLITICS

From time to time over the past months, I've heard two typical objections to my
writings venturing from the safe harbor of "personal, spiritual" to confronting
more discomforting global issues:

1. That's too political.
2. We don't want to go there.

So here are my two answers:

1. What's happening is way bigger than politics.
2. We don't have to go there. "There" has already come here.

Who Are Our Servants Serving Us To, Anyway?

One of the most memorable Twilight Zone episodes of my childhood involved a
seemingly benevolent contingent of visitors from outer space who say their
mission is to "serve humankind." It isn't until the very last scene that our
human hero discovers that their manual "To Serve Humankind" ... is a cookbook.
And now -- perhaps too late, and perhaps not -- average Americans are awakening
in the spirit of the song from that same era, "Stranded in the Jungle": "I
smelled something cooking and I looked to see, that's when I realized they was
a-cookin' me! Great googamooga, lemme outta here!"

Well, unlike the late 1950s, there doesn't seem to be any "outta here." In this
shrinking world that could definitely use a good shrink, we all seem to be in
here together. And we are facing a formidable foe -- a wolf in elephant's
clothing. Disguised as "Republicans" (a disguise that a crusty old libertarian
like the late Barry Goldwater could see through quicker than you could say,
"Karl Rove-r, Karl Rove-r, make Kerry roll over"), this amoral band of neocon
artists seeks to serve America up on a silver platter to the highest bidder. The
fact that they're technically a minority looking out for an even smaller
minority doesn't faze them. Forget "mandate." The only man this Administration
has a date with is Prince Machiavelli.

From Founding Fathers to Big Brother

Meanwhile, the progressives bless 'em, remind me of the Nasrudin story in the
Sufi tradition. One night, Nasrudin is on his hands and knees looking for
something under the lights in a parking lot. A friend asks him what he's doing.
"I lost my keys," is the reply. "Where did you lose them?" his friend asks. "I
lost them in the bushes over there," says Nasrudin. "Then, why are you looking
here?" "Because there's more light over here, silly!"

Progressives -- if they want to be true to their name and help things move
forward -- must step away from the familiar well-lit spaces of the usual
progressive issues, and have the courage to shine a light down the dark hole. Up
until now, progressives have insisted on going back to familiar haunts to
confront a foe that has long since moved on to a bigger field. Emails from
MoveOn, True Majority and others implore us to write our Congressperson to save
the Alaska wilderness or social security, to protest against the Administration
employing paid "impropagandists" disguised as objective reporters, or even to
bring the troops home from Iraq. All of these "political" issues are symptoms of
something far bigger than politics.

The issue is this: Those of us willing to open our eyes, look down the hole, and
see outside the box, realize that we have an illegitimate government that has
violated our own law and international law, not to mention established religious
law. Unless we confront the issue on that level -- moral legitimacy -- the dream
of our Founding Fathers will be replaced by the nightmare of our Big Brother.

The persistent conventional wisdom in America says that each generation must
take a stand to defend freedom. In the past, this has often looked like going to
some foreign shore armed with weapons. At this particular "rendezvous with
destiny," defending freedom means standing our ground here, armed only with the
Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. If we are willing to allow our
soldiers to make the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of an illegitimate war
perpetrated by an illegitimate regime, the least we can do is have the courage
to speak directly. Maybe the rallying bumper sticker of our time should be,
"Support Our Troops... Defend Freedom At Home."

A Modest Proposal

So just how do we do that? Here is my modest proposal to get away from
peripheral diversionary issues and force media -- and public -- attention on the
illegitimacy issue:

1. Establish a committee of 100 (or more) prominent Americans from all fields of
endeavor and across the political spectrum. This Committee of the Concerned
could include people like Bill Moyers, Ralph Nader, John Dean, Ramsey Clark,
Arianna Huffington, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., etc., etc., etc.

2. Have the Committee issue a statement that they have "deep concerns" about
current Administration policies that violate the Constitution, established
common law, international law and the "moral law" set forth by our religious
traditions. Since our elected representatives seem -- on the whole -- unwilling
to truly represent us by taking on these issues, the Committee has taken on this
task in the tradition of our Founding Fathers and the Declaration of
Independence.

3. Announce that the Committee will be conducting its own "people's
investigation" into a number of issues which our government and elected
officials have largely avoided. These include:

* The Elections of 2000 and 2004. Evidence of fraud clouds the results of the
last two Presidential elections. These charges need to be aired, illuminated and
addressed.

* The War in Iraq. The lead up to the war in Iraq was based on spun intelligence
and outright lies. If the war in Iraq was a direct outgrowth of 9/11, why was it
being planned from the moment George Bush set foot in the White House?

* The 9/11 Attacks. A rigorous re-investigation of the 9/11 attacks. The
so-called 9/11 Independent Commission consisted of insiders who refused to
consider evidence that our government had prior knowledge of the attacks. In
addition, there has been no follow up investigation of the anthrax attacks on
the President's opponents nor has there been an explanation of who benefited
from the sale of American and United Airline stocks right before 9/11.

* The So-Called Patriot Act. A careful examination of provisions in the
so-called Patriot Act that violate habeas corpus and our Constitution. How was
it that this piece of legislation, 1,000 pages long, sprung like magic in a few
short weeks? How was it that our elected representatives voted for it without
reading it?

* Inappropriate Use of Secrecy. The inappropriate use of secrecy to protect
special relationships and special interests to the detriment of the American
people. Consider, for example, the refusal on the part of Vice President Cheney
to release transcripts of the infamous meeting with energy company officials.
What is he afraid of us finding out? That the oil fields of Iraq were divvied up
two years before we went to war there?

* Officially Sanctioned Murder and Torture. The current Attorney General
actually advised the President to not concern himself with international law
when it comes to torture. The torture and murders that occurred both at Abu
Ghraib and Guantanamo have destroyed any moral authority we may have had in the
Middle East and the world. Even if Americans seem oblivious to this fact, the
rest of the world gets it.

* The Valerie Plame Case. In a spiteful act of retribution against her husband,
CIA-operative Valerie Plame was "outed" by the Administration, thus losing a
valuable asset in our search for nuclear weaponry in terrorist hands. No one in
the Administration has been held accountable for this act of treason.

* Suppression of Science. The subversion of scientific knowledge -- like the
reality of global warming -- in favor of propaganda and dogma. Scientists who
don't toe the Administration's ideological mark have been fired and denied
promotion and resources. In times of crisis when we need the best scientific
information we can get, this is foolish -- and even treasonous -- behavior.

* News Replaced by Propaganda. The manipulation of "news" that is more
reminiscent of Stalin's Russia than Jefferson's America. Paid propagandists have
worn the disguise of reporters, and real journalists have been killed --
accidentally or on purpose -- for not "imbedding down" with our military.

* A President Who Acts Like a Dictator. An Administration that barely eked out a
majority has acted like a de facto dictatorship. In addition to pursuing a war
based on false premises, they have insisted on appointing judges and other
officials way out of the mainstream of what most Americans believe. Most
recently, they have moved to change the Senate rules that have stood for two
hundred and fifteen years so that they can pursue this agenda without the
impediment of the minority party being able to block the most egregious of these
appointments.

* Government Of, By, and For Multinational Corporations. They have consistently
and persistently placed the rights of a small minority of multinational
corporations over the rights of the American people. From crooked operations
like Enron and Halliburton, to the credit card companies, drug companies,
mega-agriculture companies which seek to own and monopolize all means of growing
food, this Administration has sought to legalize the rape of the planet and the
American people.

4. Immediately establish an alternative "moral authority" -- in the form of
spiritual and religious leaders -- to develop a "truth and reconciliation"
program to help the body politic cleanse toxic behavior. In the spirit of what
was done in South Africa, establish a protocol for encouraging those involved
with perpetrations against the American people to come forward and testify with
immunity, and then be able to reintegrate back into society.

5. At the same time, establish what could be called The Canary Project to
protect truth-tellers and whistle-blowers. The Canary Project would archive --
on line and in the real world -- videotaped testimony of those who had knowledge
of or involvement in these perpetrations. People who have suffered threats or
intimidation could wear bags over their heads if need be, and their voices could
be analyzed by experts for signs of lying or exaggeration.

6. Membership organizations like Common Cause, MoveOn, True Majority, etc., etc.
would be encouraged to enroll their constituencies in supporting this
investigation by financial contributions, demonstrations at local city halls,
repeated calls to the media, and Congressional letter-writing campaigns. Imagine
if ten million or more people shifted their focus from their pet issue for a
short time, and rallied their energy around the legitimacy issue itself. Instead
of playing the Administration's game -- reacting to each outrage as it arises --
make them play our game, by going straight to the heart of their story and their
legitimacy.

7. Make the announcement of the Committee and the investigation on July 4th of
this year, and use the prominence of the signers to gain media coverage. In
fact, a contingent of well-known people could converge on Washington, D.C. and
present their concerns both to Congress and to the White House, asking for
meetings. With a few million citizens "pressing the press", and with celebrities
willing to take a stand, the issue will get coverage.

8. Decide on a priority of issues, conduct the investigation, and broadcast it
on C-Span in its entirety. While of course this investigation has no specific
legal authority, it will have moral authority in the court of public opinion.
Once Americans are exposed to the evidence of lying, fraud and malfeasance, the
public will no longer be able to plead ignorance. Even if we the people are
unable to make a "citizen's arrest" and the regime stays in power, it will lose
authority and legitimacy.

9. Announce a Re-Constitutional Convention (to reconstitute the de-constituted
Constitution) for July, 2006, where Americans from all across the country can
have input in answering the question: What could we be doing if we weren't
spending lives and resources to protect the few? What could we be doing if we
created a Manhattan Project for safe, renewable energy? How could we better
spend a part of the $400 billion we spend yearly on weaponry to really create
peace and security in the world?

Time for the Body Politic to Trade in the Old Dodge for an Evolvo

To update the Rolling Stones, I say the time is ripe for nonviolent evolution.
Say what you will about the Founding Fathers, that they were elitists, that they
were slave owners, etc., etc. -- that's all beside the point. With the
Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, they reached outside of
political convention and took a great evolutionary leap to the notion that we
the people are sovereign citizens, not subjects. Those of us who find ourselves
American citizens today -- for better or worse -- have inherited this legacy.
Over the past two hundred or so years, many times we have failed to live up to
our founding principles -- just as Christianity has often been a sad parody of
the teachings of Christ.

But now, with information at our fingertips accessible at nano-speed and with
the core teachings of so many spiritual paths liberated from secrecy, we must
take up the weapons of spiritual Truth and ask ourselves, "What is the human
potential?" Are we merely here to "survive," to be manipulated by fear into
swallowing the blue pill of ignorant consumerhood? Or are we here to evolve in
consciousness and use our precious resources and human intelligence --
intelligently?

As I said at the outset, the issues we face are far bigger than "politics,"
particularly the politics of left vs. right. It's time for those awakening to
the clear and present danger -- and the awesome opportunity to make an
evolutionary leap - to abandon the left-right battlefield and come
front-and-center. As Buckminster Fuller said in his book of the same name, the
choice we humans face at the dawn of this new millennium is "utopia or
oblivion." Sure, utopia is a challenging idea to wrap your mind around. But it
beats the heaven out of the alternative.

Dear President Bush:

Congratulations on your victory over all us non-evangelicals. Actually, we're a
bit ticked off here in New England, so we're leaving.

New England will now be its own country. And we're taking all the Blue States
with us. In case you are not aware, that includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington,
Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, all of the North East and California.

We spoke to God, and she agrees that this split will be beneficial to almost
everybody, and especially to us in the new country of New England. In fact, God
is so excited about it, she's going to shift the whole country at 4:30 pm EST
next Friday. Therefore, please let everyone know they need to be back in their
states by then.

So you get Texas and all the former slave states. We get stem cell research and
the best beaches. We get Elliot Spitzer. You get Ken Lay. We get the Statue of
Liberty. You get OpryLand. We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get
Harvard. You get Ole Miss. We get 85% of America's venture capital and
entrepreneurs. You get all the technological innovation in Alabama. We get about
two-thirds of the tax revenue, and you get to make the red states pay their fair
share.

Since our divorce rate is 22% lower than the Christian coalition's, we get a
bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms to support, and we know
how much you like that. Did I mention we produce about 70% of the nation's
veggies? But heck the only greens the Bible- thumpers eat are the pickles on
their Big Macs.

Oh yeah, another thing, don't plan on serving California wine at your state
dinners. From now on it's imported French wine for you. Ouch, bet that hurts.
Just so we're clear, the country of New England will be pro- choice and
anti-war. Speaking of war, we're going to want all Blue States citizens back
from Iraq. If you need people to fight, just ask your evangelicals. They have
tons of kids they're willing to send to their deaths for oil. And they don't
care if you don't show pictures of their kids' caskets coming home.

Anyway, we wish you all the best in the next four years and we hope, really
hope, you find those missing weapons of mass destruction. Seriously. Soon.

St. Germain: The Legions of Light have drawn ever closer to Earth

There is a sense of great changes taking place, and for those who do not hear of
messages from people like myself, it can be unsettling. For others who do, the
energies of change swirl ever nearer to the Earth and there is an air of
gathering excitement. The dark have been pushing those of the Light, and
continually seek to gain the advantage, but they match their actions. The subtle
difference is that the Lightworkers continue to do their work in a controlled
manner, and not only negate the energies of the dark, but strive ahead. The
result is that the dark are the ones that are beginning to feel the pressure,
and they now snatch at opportunities to regain their hold. As they get even more
bold, their objectives become patently obvious and they fool no one except
themselves.

Dear Ones, we have always known that the dark would implode and they are near to
their final acts of defiance. Each challenge they have put out, has been met by
the resolve of all of those of good heart and determination not to be pulled
down. Light does work in mysterious ways, but the dark has become so obvious in
its attempts to fool you and divert your attention elsewhere. Words are
meaningless unless backed by proof, yet the dark continue to take every
opportunity to spread fear and chaos. So many more of you are able to see
through the smokescreens that are used to divert your attention from what is
really taking place. The more the dark run around trying to plug the holes in
their cabal, so they are becoming much bolder. However, I assure you that their
games are coming to an end, and there will be nowhere to hide.

The dark are not the only ones that have become bolder, and the Legions of Light
have drawn ever closer to Earth. My presence is becoming more frequent, and I
talk with those who are approachable and call for help. Not all people who have
made an allegiance to the leaders of the dark, are happy with their work. There
are many who feel trapped by their commitments, and are now torn between their
oaths of allegiance and their responsibilities to the masses they represent.
These people are the Achilles Heel of the dark, and their knowledge and often
high position in government can be used to strengthen our hand. We may play by
the rules, but we can be as subversive as the dark. By and large we keep our
activities quiet, which is why you often feel a lack of precise information as
to what is taking place. We know that once the dark are convinced we are about
to take the first steps to bring peace, they will make one last massive attempt
to prevent it. That will not be allowed, and we
  shall contain whatever action is taken against us.

We have our own ways of keeping abreast of what is happening worldwide. Also,
ways of listening in to the plans of the dark, in fact we often sit with them
and yet they know not. Our technology is so far advanced that we can register
the thoughts of any one we choose. We can track people so that we are constantly
aware of their whereabouts, and they are totally oblivious to the fact. We can
exercise mind control and bamboozle people if we so wish, and we shall do so
when it becomes necessary. The actions that will be taken that will lead to
peace being declared involve thousands of people upon Earth. Because of this,
our plan has to be meticulous in detail and our timing spot on. Imagine the
co-ordination required to get the right people into their places. Our aim is to
bring about a smooth transition, so as to be able to install the interim
government as quickly as possible. Our people are briefed and ready, and it only
remains for the signal to be given that will enable us to
  proceed.

There is a lot to do that is on hold, but the period of waiting has given us
every opportunity to set up our plan. Your serving forces know only too well of
our capabilities, as we have at times been quite open in showing them our
technology. They know it is futile to react against us, as we have shown our
superiority against any weapons you have. Many times, we have voided your
nuclear devices, and have either removed or destroyed them when you have
attempted to take them into space. The difference is that when we take action,
we do so without the loss of life and have even taken personnel on board our
space craft for this reason. All this has taken place against the background of
foolish attempts to ignore our warnings about taking your weapons into space.
There are some things we will absolutely not allow, but attempts are made to try
and deceive us, to no avail. It makes no difference if the dark hide thousands
of feet underground, where they believe they can carry out their
  heinous experiments undetected. We can see and hear through solid matter, and
are fully aware as to what is going on.

I am St. Germain, and you will understand from my message that everything is
under control. Sometimes we have to allow certain events to manifest that we
would have preferred did not happen, but we cannot and do not wish to impose our
wishes upon your freewill. All is going well, and as you approach the end of
this month, you are more alert to the possibility of some real action. I do not
think you will be disappointed, and bear in mind that many events are happening
unreported and not yet entering into public knowledge. It is all gathering pace,
and nothing will now stop all coming to fruition. You continue to ground the
energies upon Earth, and the Brotherhood of Light continues to send great
energies of Love to you all. Take them into your being and these will strengthen
you and add to your already considerable power. I Love each and every one of
you.

governments, the media, banking systems, giant corporations, the military, legal

I describe the novel as "1984" for the aware generation. It combines the
spirituality of the Bhagavad Gita with the political treatise of Orwell's
"1984". In placing the setting in the world of football, I am hoping that the
teachings of the novel reach a wider audience, especially teenagers, especially
youth. The main character Ben is a footballer player who embodies the spirit and
teachings of the figureheads of a number of religions and whose lifestyle is a
world away from many of our real life football stars, with their violent
behaviour and language etc.

I also run http://www.thisistherealtruth.net I started off as a travel blog -
last year I went to India, Germany (Mother Meera), North America (around Native
American sites) and Peru.

You may well be aware of the prophecy of the rainbow warriors. When we went to
America, we met Hopi Elder Grandfather Martin, in his little house on the Hopi
Reservation. I went there to learn from him, but we found him very low and
dis-spirited. We did learn much of what is going on, but we then also carried
out a ceremony with him, in his kitchen/living room. We did a circle and I was
holding his hand. Grandfather Martin said some prayers, and then I took over the
ceremony. I spent two months in the mountains of Snowdonia, Wales preparing for
my trips to Peru and America. I did a mediation, and it was extremely powerful.
I had received guidance and learnings up in the mountains. I was quite shocked
as Grandfather Martin could not thank me enough. I try not to say that out of
ego, but for me I then realised that I could now call myself Shaman, that it is
such a part of me that my medicine is good and powerful and I know how to dirert
it to where it is needed.

Another Hopi friend took us to the Grand Canyon for another ceremony. This is a
short version of a most fascinating story, but he ended up giving me an Eagle's
feather to take to Peru. I did this and at 6 in the morning, all on my own,
carried out a ceremony in Machu Pichu, in the temple of the condor, for the Hopi
and for world peace, and where I left the feather. I carried on the arduous and
hazardous journey to the temple of the moon, where the ceremony continues, and
then I made it back to the ruins again to finish at the temple of the sun.

The prophecy of the rainbow warriors is that many native americans will be born
again in to the west, to help redress the problems the west has wrought on to
the rest of the world. I can not tell you I am one of those, but it sure feels
like it!

My web site has a lot about my political peace work. I have had much success
personally lobbying my local MPs, and this all ties in with my novel. My book is
not published by a large publisher, and there is no marketing budget. All I can
do right now is hopefully obtain some publicity with the help of people like
yourself.

Dolphins and Extraterrestrial Societies

Today while swimming among many Spinner dolphins, I became aware of the love I
was feeling, the love between cetaceans and humanity, the deep soul connection
and cellular links we share; and I breathed a prayer of thanksgiving for this
special dolphin-human relationship here in the nurturing waters of Hawaii.

As usual the dolphins were bringing the swimmers golden leaves to play with. We
catch them, we dive, and we release them. The dolphins are more versatile in the
game. They carry the prized leaves on their rostrum, draped over their eyes (!),
on their dorsal and pectoral fins, on their tails and sometimes plastered
against their tummies, unseen until they roll over, making us laugh. We share so
much joy during these special mornings together. It is unique in the world - a
human/dolphin relationship, where a pod of people who live on land, befriend and
play with the same loving dolphins, day after day, year after year. It is a
natural and beneficial friendship for both species.


My first dolphin contacts began in the 1970's when I met Dr. John Lilly, M.D.
and dolphin researcher. Our reason for meeting initially was not about the
dolphins; it was about our awareness of intelligent species living on nearby
planets. This was the common bond of friendship and communication between Dr.
Lilly and I.

As long as I can remember I have been part of a civilization of people who do
not live on Earth, but who are visiting it regularly. I call these people
EXTRATERRESTRIALS because they can materialize at will, making themselves
temporary visitors on our physical planet.

As a teen-ager, I knew enough to keep their presence to myself. There was no
reason to talk about them. If anyone fearful of ETs came close to seeing them,
the ETs would disappear immediately. Being sensitive to people, they would
choose when to make their presence known.

Eventually I realized one of my purposes for incarnating on Earth was to let
people know about outer planetary societies. When the time was right, I began to
speak to other E.T. Earthlings and we began to share our accounts of parallel
worlds.

In 1973 the dolphins were communicating with Dr. John Lilly; I met them through
him. My Extraterrestrial friends had told me they are in continuous contact with
whales and dolphins who speak the same language as they do. They encouraged me
to meet the dolphins along the Earth's bandwidths.

After receiving telepathic communications from the dolphins I decided to meet
them in the ocean as well. The first step was to learn to swim and then to find
them in the water. I was guided to meet them in Hawaii. Very quickly, a
completely new life evolved that included dolphins and whales. I already had the
last name of Ocean, so perhaps you could say, it was preordained.


The dolphins told me they are an Extraterrestrial civilization that lives in the
oceans and rivers of Earth part-time. They have endeared themselves to
humanity.. although when you look at them critically, you may notice - They are
Grey with streamlined forms, big heads, unusual languages, and live in an
airless environment, in a team mentality, extending gentleness and love to
humans.

The dolphins and whales serve as ambassadors between Earth and other Star
Nations. They are the Wise Ones assisting humanity to accept the existence of
other species who are intelligent and living in diverse realities nearby. Over
the past two decades, I have spent half of my time in contact with
Extraterrestrial races and half of my time leading Seminars with wonderful Earth
people. I know the ETs are here to help us as we evolve. We are fortunate to
have them.


In June there will be a Dolphin and ET Civilizations Conference in Hawaii,
bringing together the people who understand the significance of this
inter-galactic, inter-cultural union.

What a great time we will have sharing our wisdom with each other!

One of the Speakers at the Conference is Alfred Lambremont Webre, a space
activist and a futurist at the Stanford Research Institute.

In 1977 he directed a proposed extraterrestrial communication study project for

The Inner Smile

This is a simple technique I use and teach that is very effective. It is simple
and magical. One great advantage is that each person can play around with it and
explore its possibilities on their own and in their own way. There are no lists
of rules, no sequence of moves to be remembered, no correct procedures; just
start the process and let it develop, as it does. Follow along, like following a
stream, innocently, curiously, in wonderment.

If you can, accept the concept, that each person was created by God, or the
Universe, or Tao. As the Bible states, God formed clay and "breathed into it".
We have inside us, like a memory, that Pulse of Breath; our Original Breath,
just as you might have read of our Original Face or our Original Mind. This is
what we were, before.

If you like think of it as the proverbial twinkle in your parents eyes just
before they conceived you. That pulse of joy that brought you into existence.

I like to imagine my Original Face as that of a child with a smile on it. It is
an easy image for anyone I think, a young face with a smile. While this is not
using the inner child concept of New Age psychology, there is value in imagining
that happy young energy inside. The original breath inside us is a young child,
innocent and open.

Taoist practices try to get us in touch with our own energy. Once one can accept
the concept of our own inner energy one can start to feel it. Once you start to
feel it you are in a position to cultivate it. This is the aim of the inner
smile practice.

The practice:

Shut your eyes and feel your lips. Immediately you should feel the energy on the
lips. Now bring them into a slight smile. I think it is impossible to do this
and not feel some happy feeling at the same time. A student of my School of
Esoteric Arts, a biologist, speculates that as the muscles move into a smile
then the wiring of our emotions is such that we feel good; that it is hard to
put the lips into a smile and not feel happy.

This good feeling, this sense of a happy energy inside is the basis of all that
follows.

Life on earth is sun based. We get the gravitational effect of the moon on the
tides etc but our main energy source is the sun. We are energetically linked to
the sun. It shines its energy on us and we grow with it. Without it we will
become extinct. It is central to our existence.

When I shut my eyes for this practice I like to imagine a big ball of golden
energy like the sun just above my head and beaming into my face. I turn the
corners of my lips into a slight smile. I breathe into that smile, feeling good.
I feel that golden ball of energy. I feel warm on my face. After some breaths I
put that stretching smiling energy across my forehead. With each in breath I
stretch it across, across each lobe of the brain; with each out breath relax and
just feel the energy there. Then I put it so it stretches across my eyes, into
the corner of each eyelid. I find this very relaxing.

In this way I move down the body, with each breath feeling that energy of the
sun melting me inside, smiling across me.

Spots that can be included are across the throat, from the heart across the
chest, across the belly in front and then across the back at belly button level,
Ming Men (this links into the belt chi or kidney meridian); from the spine in
middle of the shoulders to the shoulders. There is a gate on the spine there
where energy gets stuck.

Each inbreath a smile then relax and feel.

If you ever lose focus go back to the lips and feel a smile there.

Across inner organs, pelvis, groin, across knees, across soles of feet, across
toes, hands.

You can do it just as you like, for as long as you like

I tell my students to love their body. When you smile at your body it is like a
boss coming into a place of work and letting the employees know they are
appreciated. When you scowl at yourself you are like an intimidating dominating
boss making the workers tense. Your organs will function better if they feel
appreciated and loved.

Some people go around with an inner scowl and life confirms it. They see all
that is wrong and it makes them feel worse. They seek for what is wrong. They
are the critics of life. They have the eyes and nose for that, inner scowl at
the ready. Some go around with an inner smile. When things go wrong they make
them better.

Inside us we have all sorts of different and competing energies. A smile is like
saying,

"OK. It is all OK" like a fond mother who watches her children and friends play.
We are doing the best we can, so give your self a smile.

You can beam inside a smile to someone in need of it, someone ill, someone
unhappy, to someone with whom you have a problem maybe.

Then end the practice with an inside thank you.

I use it when I practice my moving forms. This is not as easy as sitting with a
smile, for, by habit, as one focuses carefully or when tries to remember the
sequence one loses a smile. I have students who purse their lips or grimace as
they concentrate. When one is trying to concentrate on inner sensations,
internal movement one can lose the smile and go blank with concentration.

It is not an external grin. We often grin when we are trying to project
something or manipulate somebody. Radiant flashes of teeth.

It is a smile that bubbles up from inside, something essential inside, of
contentment. Like when a baby sees someone who loves it. A smile that says,
"Here I am","Here you are", "Here we are and isn't it grand?" The sort of smile
you hope God has when She sees you doing your best.

You can imagine a very accomplished martial artist who is challenged by someone
he knows he can easily beat. He can smile, a smile of total confidence, of
knowing his power, a smile of nothing to prove, nothing to do, just sure of it
all.

In my forms I often try to maintain that smiling energy and in each move have it
flow there. As I extend the smiling energy flows along the arm, the muscles stay
relaxed and I imagine the smile extending beyond the fist, beyond the palm, into
the world. When I stand up the smile spirals up inside and reaches above my
head, stretching into "heaven". When I sink it goes down into the earth.

So much of our life is spent trying to accomplish something, to get somewhere.
The inner smile recognizes that where we are is All, and All is Good.

Chief of Defense, British Armed Forces, Admiral Lord Hill-Norton

I have frequently been asked why a person of my background—a former Chief of the
Defense Staff, a former Chairman of the NATO Military Committee—why I think
there is a cover-up of the facts about UFOs. I believe governments fear that if
they did disclose those facts, people would panic. I don’t believe that at all.
There is a serious possibility that we are being visited—and have been visited
for many years—by people from outer space, from other civilizations. It behooves
us to find out who they are, where they come from, and what they want. This

Yes, there have been ET visitations. There have been crashed craft. There have

As mentioned in my previous compilation, here is the material I've put together
for your review regarding the World Water Day which occurred 2 days ago. You may
wonder why it is so important that a compilation should be devoted to it... Here
is a quote from an article below that makes amply clear why it is:


"Water has been described as "the oil of the 21st century," a scarce commodity
that will be a source of conflict between peoples and nations. Seem farfetched?
Consider this: According to United Nations estimates, there are currently 1.2
billion people in the world who do not have access to safe drinking water, and
2.4 billion who lack proper sanitation facilities. (...) By 2025, the U.N.
estimates that some 3 billion people will suffer the effects of water shortages.
Consider that between 1990 and 1995, global water consumption rose six-fold,
which is more than double the rate of population growth. This is due in part to
industrial demand; for example, it takes 300 litres of water to produce 1
kilogram of paper, and 215,000 litres of water to produce one metric tonne of
steel. Changes in our diet also are driving water consumption. It takes 15,000
tonnes of water to produce a tonne of beef, while a tonne of grain only requires
1,000 tonnes of water."


But beyond such statistics, the issue for me is more about the misplaced
priorities of many governments, especially the United States government
obviously, when considering the fact that so little money is invested to provide
water - a basic human right currently denied to over 1,200,000,000 human beings!
- and thus the collective failure to tackle the resulting diarrheal disease
means that over 30,000 people (1.8 million people every year according to the
World Health Organization), mostly children, die every week!

To spur efforts by governments and civil society to meet agreed targets on

sanitation by 2015, the United Nations is launching the international Water for
Life Decade tomorrow on World Water Day. With agriculture being the main
consumer of water and women in developing countries often being the main
carriers of water, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said in a message, "We need
to increase water efficiency, especially in agriculture. We need to free women
and girls from the daily chore of hauling water, often over great distances. We
must involve them in decision-making on water management." The least progress
was being made in providing basic sanitation and many millions of children were
dying each year from water-borne diseases, he said, urging the world "to respond
better" on an urgent matter of human development and human dignity. "And we must
show that water resources need not be a source of conflict,"
  but can be a catalyst for cooperation, Mr. Annan said. (...) On the question of
health and sanitation, UN World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Lee
Jong-Wook said the collective failure to tackle diarrhoeal disease, which was
killing 30,000 people per week, was "a silent humanitarian crisis" that impeded
the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a list of targets
for reducing many socio-economic ills by 2015. "It has been estimated that an
additional investment of $11.3 billion per year over and above current spending
could result in a total economic benefit of $84 billion annually," Dr. Lee said.

Agency unveiled a rule last week to limit mercury emissions from U.S. power
plants, officials emphasized that the controls could not be more aggressive
because the cost to industry already far exceeded the public health payoff. What
they did not reveal is that a Harvard University study paid for by the EPA,
co-authored by an EPA scientist and peer-reviewed by two other EPA scientists
had reached the opposite conclusion. That analysis estimated health benefits 100
times as great as the EPA did, but top agency officials ordered the finding
stripped from public documents, said a staff member who helped develop the rule.
Acknowledging the Harvard study would have forced the agency to consider more
stringent controls, said environmentalists and the study's author.  (...) The
Harvard study concluded that mercury controls similar to those the EPA proposed
could save nearly $5 billion a year through reduced
  neurological and cardiac harm. Last Tuesday, however, officials said the health
benefits were worth no more than $50 million a year while the cost to industry
would be $750 million a year.  (...) Mercury is a toxic metal emitted by
industrial sources. U.S. power plants emit 48 tons a year, and the new rule
establishes an emissions-trading program that is expected to lower emissions to
about 31 tons by 2010 and to about 15 tons by 2026. The Harvard analysis was
based on similar targets in President Bush's "Clear Skies" legislative proposal.
In most cases, mercury toxicity results from eating fish: Industrial emissions
fall from the air into water and are taken up by fish. Because the metal does
not break down, it moves steadily up the food chain to species that people
consume. A major reason for the dramatic difference in the health benefit
estimates was that the EPA looked only at the effects of reducing mercury levels
in freshwater fish, but most of the fish Americans eat comes

could blossom into a $100 billion a year global market in less than a decade as
technology costs fall, according to a study. The combined market for "green"
sources of energy has already grown 68 percent since 2002 to more than $16
billion last year, according to Clean Edge, a research and publishing firm based
in California. The market could grow to a $102.4 billion annually by 2014,
according to Clean Edge, whose forecasts on renewable energy have been exceeded
by the market for the past three years. Even if the renewable market grew to
that size, it would be tiny compared to conventional energy. The oil market
alone is several trillion dollars per day. But with oil hitting recent records
near $58 a barrel and natural gas futures double what they cost in the late
1990s, renewables should remain the fastest growing energy market, the study
said. "While the traditional fossil fuels are increasing in price,
  clean forms of electricity generation are seeing reduction in prices, so that
over time these clean energy forms are becoming less expensive," said Clean Edge

NASA continues to explore the impact of black carbon or soot on the Earth's
climate. NASA uses satellite data and computer models that recreate the climate.
New findings show soot may be contributing to changes happening near the North
Pole, such as accelerating melting of sea ice and snow and changing atmospheric
temperatures. (...) The Arctic is especially susceptible to the impact of
human-generated particles and other pollution. In recent years the Arctic has
significantly warmed, and sea-ice cover and glacial snow have diminished. Likely
causes for these trends include changing weather patterns and the effects of
pollution. Black carbon has been implicated as playing a role in melting ice and
snow. When soot falls on ice, it darkens the surface and accelerates melting by
increasing absorbed sunlight. Airborne soot also warms the air and affects
weather patterns and clouds. (...) The research found in the atmosphere over the
Arctic, about one-third of the soot comes from South
  Asia, one-third from burning biomass or vegetation around the world, and the
remainder from Russia, Europe and North America. South Asia is estimated to have
the largest industrial soot emissions in the world, and the meteorology in that
region readily lofts pollution into the upper atmosphere where it is transported

indicates Martin would have flown into a public opinion

22 March: World Water Day initiates the International Decade for Action 'Water

World Water Day 2005, celebrated on 22 March and coordinated this year by the
United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) will both
introduce and be guided by the theme of the International Decade for Action,
'Water for Life'.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2002 some 1.1 billion
people lacked access to improved water sources, 2.6 to basic sanitation, and
approximately 1.8 million people die every year from diarrhoeal disease, 90
percent of them children under the age of five.

The theme of World Water Day 2005 and the Decade emphasizes the central role
water plays in sustaining human life. Water is critical for human well-being,
environmental health, biodiversity, energy generation, industrial development,
food production, and it plays an essential role in many cultures and religions.

The Decade, established by the UN in Resolution A/RES/58/217 [PDF format - 29
KB], provides the international community with an opportunity to refocus
political and global commitment on water-related issues in order to achieve the
water-related goals established in the Millennium Declaration.

unveiled a report that advocates what the AP is calling the "most sweeping
changes to the United Nations since it was founded 60 years ago." The following

Former assistant secretary general of the UN, Halliday said today: "The report
importantly brings together the essential ingredients of success ... that is,

Halliday, who was head of the oil-for-food program in Iraq until resigning in
protest in 1998, added: "Secretary General Annan -- a Washington creation --

other member states (Iran, Syria, North Korea) and unwillingness to sign on to

Asians, Iraqis Get Hi-Tech, Recycled Water

WASHINGTON -  There are plenty of wells in Iraq, but the dead animals dumped
there when Saddam Hussein was in power have contaminated them. There are plenty
of streams in southeast Asia, but the recent tsunami polluted them with salt
from the ocean.

How do you quench someone's thirst when there is plenty of water, but not a drop
of it is drinkable?

It's a question NASA researchers have pondered for nearly two decades, but
villagers in Iraq and tsunami victims in Asia will get a taste of their answer
as early as this fall - before any astronaut in space does.

The Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., has been testing a device
intended for the space station that would recycle astronauts' sweat, respiration
and even urine into drinking water purer than any found in a tap.

"They just breathe and exercise, urinate into the urinal and our system handles
the rest," said Robyn Carrasquillo, chief of the environmental control and life
support division at Marshall.

It could be two years before the water system - as large as two refrigerators -
is loaded onto a shuttle to serve an American astronaut and Russian cosmonaut
living in space. But smaller and simpler versions will soon be put to use on
earth.

Reno, Nev.-based investment firm Crestridge and the charity Concern for Kids are
developing the systems for humanitarian purposes in nations lacking a reliable
water supply, starting with Iraq and countries in southeast Asia.

"There are 1.8 billion people who have never had a drink of fresh water," said
Kevin Chambers, Crestridge's managing director. "Our mission is grand, but we've
got to start somewhere and sometime - and now is the time."

Rocket scientists trying to sustain life in space and humanitarians trying to
increase the quality of life in third world countries kept running into the same
problem - a lack of clean but affordable drinking water.

Bottles of fresh water cost as much as $1.50 a gallon. Each weighs eight pounds,
so the fees skyrocket when they're transported across the planet - let alone
beyond the stratosphere.

Robert Anderson, vice president and international projects director for Concern
for Kids, said he began looking into water recycling technology two years ago
because of the huge expenses necessary to carry water to Iraqi villages by
tanker truck.

"I got to thinking, 'There's got to be a better way,'" he said. Eventually, he
reached the company that held the patent on the technology being developed for
the space agency.

For $29,000 in equipment costs and less than three cents a gallon, a
trailer-mounted recycling device can travel from village to village, turning a
well's unclean water into something suitable for drinking. Larger, stationery
systems equipped with packaging plants cost around $400,000.

Researchers at Windsor Locks, Conn.-based Hamilton Sundstrand, the lead
contractor of the water processor for NASA, only recently learned their
filtration technology is being put into action at home before it heads to the
space station.

"It was a total surprise to us - not that it's a stretch," said Bob Aaron, the
company's program manager for the processor.

Next month, Crestridge plans to break ground on the first manufacturing plant
for the earth-based water processing devices. By September, it hopes to send 10
truck-mounted and at least three trailer devices to Iraq and 12 of the larger
packaging units to southeast Asia.

NASA's timetable is somewhat less ambitious; the water processor is targeted for
a shuttle launch in mid-2007.

The space station had to reduce its permanent residents from three to two after
the Columbia disaster grounded American shuttles, which had carried tanks of
water to the astronauts living there.

Now the astronaut and cosmonaut are living off water brought up by the Russian
spacecraft, which also includes a device that catches some respiration and
recycles it into limited amounts of drinking water. No urine recycler has ever
been used in space.

Although the NASA technology is virtually finished, it still must undergo
several more tests to make sure it can withstand a launch.

World thirsty for clean water

Canada has the expertise to help, says Dr. Albert Schumacher

Water has been described as "the oil of the 21st century," a scarce commodity
that will be a source of conflict between peoples and nations. Seem farfetched?
Consider this: According to United Nations estimates, there are currently 1.2
billion people in the world who do not have access to safe drinking water, and
2.4 billion who lack proper sanitation facilities.

Because of the shortage of safe drinking water in much of the world, there are
3.3 million deaths every year from diarrheal diseases caused by e-coli,
salmonella and cholera bacterial infections, parasites like giardia and
cryptosporidium, and viral pathogens like rotavirus. In fact, in the developing
world, 80 per cent of illnesses are water-related.

This is difficult for many Canadians to grasp. After all, Canada is blessed with
an abundance of safe water. We are third in the world, behind only Brazil and
Russia, for our supply of renewable fresh water. We have had serious drinking
water concerns in places like Walkerton, Ont., and North Battleford, Sask., but
nothing to match the international situation.


By 2025, the U.N. estimates that some 3 billion people will suffer the effects
of water shortages. Consider that between 1990 and 1995, global water
consumption rose six-fold, which is more than double the rate of population
growth. This is due in part to industrial demand; for example, it takes 300
litres of water to produce 1 kilogram of paper, and 215,000 litres of water to
produce one metric tonne of steel. Changes in our diet also are driving water
consumption. It takes 15,000 tonnes of water to produce a tonne of beef, while a
tonne of grain only requires 1,000 tonnes of water.

As nations like China, India and Mexico continue their rapid industrialization
and catch up with the developed world, this consumption will only increase.

As a result of over-consumption and depletion of its water table, Beijing is
sinking into the ground at the rate of 10 centimetres per year. Certain barrios
in Mexico City sink as much as 30 centimetres a year.

Later this month, the United Nations will launch its "International Decade for
Action" to focus on the need for safe drinking water around the world. The
campaign is appropriately named "Water for Life."

We should not need a U.N. declaration that water is an essential human right in
order to motivate us; we must take what we have learned and share our expertise
with the developing world.

Fortunately, we have an excellent example of what form this assistance could
take in the recent DART (Disaster Assistance Response Team) mission to South
Asia, which did so much in Sri Lanka.

The DART operation has the capability of producing 150,000 to 200,000 litres of
safe drinking water a day. DART uses a Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit
(ROWPU), an advanced water treatment system capable of purifying any water
source found in the world.

Canada could use this technology to make bringing safe drinking water to the
developing world the priority of our international development efforts,
addressing one of today's most pressing health questions.

We are just weeks away from World Water Day on March 22, when the U.N.'s
International Decade for Action begins. Canadians should take advantage of this
unique moment to write to the Prime Minister and encourage him to embrace a "big
idea": Canada bringing safe drinking water to the developing world.

We in Canada are fortunate to have the ability and the resources to help our
neighbours in the rest of the world. Let us use our expertise to make this world
a better, safer, healthier place, for all peoples.

Alternative World Water Forum calls for global tax to save vital resource

March 20, 2005

GENEVA (AFP) -  Hundreds of activists appealed for a global tax on water and the
creation of a "world water parliament" to protect its distribution, at the
closing of the Alternative World Water Forum.

The two-day forum's goal is to "promote the creation of a world public service
for water" through a series of concrete measures, said Bastienne Joerchel of a
Swiss charity group.

The forum proposed introducing a one-cent tax on water worldwide, which would
avoid having to use private funding for the distribution of water.

A global water parliament -- expected to hold its first meeting in Brussels next
year -- would establish the rules to assure the equitable distribution of the
vital resource.

About 1,200 people from around the globe and 150 non-governmental organizations
participated in the forum that opened Friday, including the former Portuguese
president Mario Soares, co-chairman of the meeting held ahead of Tuesday's World
Water Day.

The United Nations will launch Tuesday its global campaign called "Water for
life," which aims to cut by half the number of people worldwide who do not have
access to drinking water by 2015.

The forum also adopted an action plan for the recognition of water as a human
right, its use for the common good, and called for public financing and
democratic control of the resource.

Riccardo Petrella, a professor at Lugano University in Switzerland, called for
water to be excluded from the negotiations at the World Trade Organization on
the liberalization of services, and said the World Bank should stop requiring
the privatization of water as a condition for granting loans.

Dawn of a thirsty century

The amount of water in the world is limited. The human race, and the other
species which share the planet, cannot expect an infinite supply.

Water covers about two-thirds of the Earth's surface, admittedly. But most is
too salty for use.

Only 2.5% of the world's water is not salty, and two-thirds of that is locked up
in the icecaps and glaciers.

Of what is left, about 20% is in remote areas, and much of the rest arrives at
the wrong time and place, as monsoons and floods.

Humans have available less than 0.08% of all the Earth's water. Yet over the
next two decades our use is estimated to increase by about 40%.

Water shortages set to grow

In 1999 the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) reported that 200
scientists in 50 countries had identified water shortage as one of the two most
worrying problems for the new millennium (the other was global warming).

We use about 70% of the water we have in agriculture. But the World Water
Council believes that by 2020 we shall need 17% more water than is available if
we are to feed the world.

So if we go on as we are, millions more will go to bed hungry and thirsty each
night than do so already.

Today, one person in five across the world has no access to safe drinking water,
and one in two lacks safe sanitation.

Today, and every day, more than 30,000 children die before reaching their fifth
birthdays, killed either by hunger or by easily-preventable diseases.

And adequate safe water is key to good health and a proper diet. In China, for
example, it takes 1,000 tonnes of water to produce one tonne of wheat.

Inefficiency behind water crisis

There are several reasons for the water crisis. One is the simple rise in
population, and the desire for better living standards.

Another is the inefficiency of the way we use much of our water. Irrigation
allows wastage on a prodigal scale, with the water trickling away or simply
evaporating before it can do any good.

And pollution is making more of the water that is available to us unfit for use.
The Aral Sea in central Asia is one of the starkest examples of what pollution
can do, to the land as well as the water.

Increasingly, governments are seeking to solve their water problems by turning
away from reliance on rainfall and surface water, and using subterranean
supplies of groundwater instead.

But that is like making constant withdrawals from a bank account without ever
paying anything into it.

Looking for solutions

And using up irreplaceable groundwater does not simply mean the depletion of a
once-and-for-all resource.

Rivers, wetlands and lakes that depend on it can dry out. Saline seawater can
flow in to replace the fresh water that has been pumped out.

And the emptied underground aquifers can be compressed, causing surface
subsidence - a problem familiar in Bangkok, Mexico City and Venice.

There are some ways to begin to tackle the problem. Irrigation systems which
drip water directly onto plants are one, precision sprinklers another.

There will be scope to plant less water-intensive crops, and perhaps
desalination may play a part - though it is energy-hungry and leaves quantities
of brine for disposal.

Climate change will probably bring more rain to some regions and less to others,
and its overall impact remains uncertain.

But if we are to get through the water crisis, we should heed the UNEP report's
reminder that we have only one interdependent planet to share.

It said: "The environment remains largely outside the mainstream of everyday
human consciousness, and is still considered an add-on to the fabric of life."

How to Avoid the Top 10 Most Common Toxins

There are many upsides to living in a modern, high-tech society (like having
access to the Internet and digital cameras and MP3 audio players to name a few
of my favorites.) But as with most things in life and in nature, whether you
call it yin and yang, balance or the principle that opposites attract, with the
upside comes a significant downside.

For all of the conveniences and advances that we have grown so accustomed to
comes a slew of environmental toxins -- chemicals and other materials largely
from industry and carelessness -- that have very much saturated our water, our
food and the very air we breathe.

Many of these toxins are things that you can't see, smell or feel, at least not
right away. One of the major problems with them is just that. We don't realize
that we're being affected until we come down with a chronic disease after years
of subtle and often consistent exposure to a combination of these toxins.

This makes it almost impossible to pinpoint a specific environmental toxin as
the source of illness, yet when you look at the facts -- the increasing numbers
of cancers, immune system disorders, neurological problems, chronic fatigue
syndrome, multiple chemical sensitivities, allergies and hormonal disturbances
that are facing the nation -- it is hard NOT to take notice. Consider these
statistics:

* Some 77,000 chemicals are produced in North America
* Over 3,000 chemicals are added to our food supply
* More than 10,000 chemical solvents, emulsifiers and preservatives are used in
food processing
* 1,000 new chemicals are introduced each year


Where do all of these chemicals end up? They are absorbed into our groundwater,
rivers, lakes and oceans, spewed into our air, and added, quite intentionally,
to our food supply.

The Effects of Toxins on Your Body

A study in last year's British Medical Journal estimated that perhaps 75 percent
of most cancers are caused by environmental and lifestyle factors, including
exposure to chemicals. Another report, this one by the Columbia University
School of Public Health, estimated that 95 percent of cancer is caused by diet
and environmental toxicity.

This is really not surprising when you consider that estimates show most
Americans have somewhere between 400 and 800 chemicals stored in their bodies,
typically in fat cells. Some of the short- and long-term effects of these toxins
include:

* Neurological disorders (Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, depression, attention
deficit disorder, schizophrenia, etc.)
* Cancer
* Nutritional deficiencies
* Hormonal imbalances

* Enzyme dysfunction
* Altered metabolism
* Reproductive disorders
* Fatigue
* Headaches
* Obesity

* Muscle and vision problems
* Immune system depression
* Allergies/Asthma
* Endocrine disorders
* Chronic viral infections
* Less ability to tolerate/handle stress

The 10 Most Common Toxins

The following toxins are among the most prevalent in our air, water and/or food
supply. This list is by no means all-inclusive, as thousands of other toxins are
also circulating in our environment. Keep reading to find out tips to avoid
these toxins and others as much as possible.

1. PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls): This industrial chemical has been banned in
the United States for decades, yet is a persistent organic pollutant that's
still present in our environment.

Risks: Cancer, impaired fetal brain development

Major Source: Farm-raised salmon. Most farm-raised salmon, which accounts for
most of the supply in the United States are fed meals of ground-up fish that
have absorbed PCBs in the environment and for this reason should be avoided.

2. Pesticides: According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 60
percent of herbicides, 90 percent of fungicides and 30 percent of insecticides
are known to be carcinogenic. Alarmingly, pesticide residues have been detected
in 50 percent to 95 percent of U.S. foods.

Risks: Cancer, Parkinson's disease, miscarriage, nerve damage, birth defects,
blocking the absorption of food nutrients

Major Sources: Food (fruits, vegetables and commercially raised meats), bug
sprays

3. Mold and other Fungal Toxins: One in three people have had an allergic
reaction to mold. Mycotoxins (fungal toxins) can cause a range of health
problems with exposure to only a small amount.

Risks: Cancer, heart disease, asthma, multiple sclerosis, diabetes


Major Sources: Contaminated buildings, food like peanuts, wheat, corn and
alcoholic beverages

4. Phthalates: These chemicals are used to lengthen the life of fragrances and
soften plastics.

Risks: Endocrine system damage (phthalates chemically mimic hormones and are
particularly dangerous to children)

Major Sources: Plastic wrap, plastic bottles, plastic food storage containers.
All of these can leach phthalates into our food.

5. VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds): VOCs are a major contributing factor to
ozone, an air pollutant. According to the EPA, VOCs tend to be even higher (two
to five times) in indoor air than outdoor air, likely because they are present
in so many household products.

Risks: Cancer, eye and respiratory tract irritation, headaches, dizziness,
visual disorders, and memory impairment.

Major Sources: Drinking water, carpet, paints, deodorants, cleaning fluids,
varnishes, cosmetics, dry cleaned clothing, moth repellants, air fresheners.

6. Dioxins: Chemical compounds formed as a result of combustion processes such
as commercial or municipal waste incineration and from burning fuels (like wood,
coal or oil).

Risks: Cancer, reproductive and developmental disorders, chloracne (a severe
skin disease with acne-like lesions), skin rashes, skin discoloration, excessive
body hair, mild liver damage

Major Sources: Animal fats: Over 95 percent of exposure comes from eating
commercial animal fats.

7. Asbestos: This insulating material was widely used from the 1950s to 1970s.
Problems arise when the material becomes old and crumbly, releasing fibers into
the air.

Risks: Cancer, scarring of the lung tissue, mesothelioma (a rare form of cancer)

Major Sources: Insulation on floors, ceilings, water pipes and healing ducts
from the 1950s to 1970s.


8. Heavy Metals: Metals like arsenic, mercury, lead, aluminum and cadmium, which
are prevalent in many areas of our environment, can accumulate in soft tissues
of the body.

Risks: Cancer, neurological disorders, Alzheimer's disease, foggy head, fatigue,
nausea and vomiting, decreased production of red and white blood cells, abnormal
heart rhythm, damage to blood vessels

Major Sources: Drinking water, fish, vaccines, pesticides, preserved wood,
antiperspirant, building materials, dental amalgams, chlorine plants

9. Chloroform: This colorless liquid has a pleasant, nonirritating odor and a
slightly sweet taste, and is used to make other chemicals. It's also formed when
chlorine is added to water.

Risks: Cancer, potential reproductive damage, birth defects, dizziness, fatigue,
headache, liver and kidney damage.

Major Sources: Air, drinking water and food can contain chloroform.

10. Chlorine: This highly toxic, yellow-green gas is one of the most heavily
used chemical agents.

Risks: Sore throat, coughing, eye and skin irritation, rapid breathing,
narrowing of the bronchi, wheezing, blue coloring of the skin, accumulation of
fluid in the lungs, pain in the lung region, severe eye and skin burns, lung
collapse, reactive airways dysfunction syndrome (RADS) (a type of asthma)

Major Sources: Household cleaners, drinking water (in small amounts), air when
living near an industry (such as a paper plant) that uses chlorine in industrial
processes.


Tips to Avoid Toxins

It's impossible in this day and age to avoid all environmental toxins. What you
can do, however, is limit your exposure as much as possible with the following
tips:


* Buy and eat, as much as possible, organic produce and free-range, organic
foods. If you can only purchase one organic product it probably should be free
range organic eggs. Fortunately most grocery stores now have these available. If
they don't contact the store manager and encourage them to carry them.
Additionally I believe raw milk products are a key to staying healthy. They are
best obtained locally but many people have a great challenge finding them. I
have made special arrangements with a dairy in the only state that raw milk
products are legal, California, so you can easily obtain them.

* Rather than eating fish, which is largely contaminated with PCBs and mercury,
consume a high-quality purified fish or cod liver oil like Carlson's. Contact
your favorite health food store for it or another high quality brand or use our
store for your immediate convenience. Another option is to have your wild-caught
fish lab tested to find out if it is a pure source (we've found a delicious
Alaskan wild red salmon that is mercury- and PCB-free and safe).

* Avoid processed foods -- remember that they're processed with chemicals!

* Only use natural cleaning products in your home. Most health food stores will
have these available or you can search on line for them.

* Switch over to natural brands of toiletries, including shampoo, toothpaste,
antiperspirants and cosmetics. Same sources here, either your local health food
store or you can search on line.

* Remove any metal fillings as they're a major source of mercury. Be sure to
have this done by a qualified biological dentist. Although nearly any dentist is
technically qualified to replace your amalgam fillings, far less than 95 percent
have any clue on how to do it properly so your risk of mercury exposure is
minimized. Please avoid the mistake I have seen THOUSANDS of patients make and
have your fillings replaced by a non-qualified dentist. I made this mistake
myself nearly 20 years ago. Do it right the first time and save yourself the
expense and grief. If you don't personally know a qualified biological dentist,
many people find one by contacting several of the health food stores in their
area and asking the employees who they know. This is typically an excellent
resource as they are usually networked quite well in the local health community.

* Avoid using artificial air fresheners, dryer sheets, fabric softeners or other
synthetic fragrances as they can pollute the air you are breathing.

* Avoid artificial food additives of all kind, including artificial sweeteners
and MSG

* Get plenty of safe sun exposure to boost your vitamin D levels and your immune
system (you'll be better able to fight disease).


* Have your tap water tested and, if contaminants are found, install an
appropriate water filter on all your faucets (even those in your shower or
bath).

* Seek to build your health up through the nutrition insights detailed in my
Total Health Program, and then limit your use of drugs (prescription and
over-the-counter) as much as possible. Drugs are chemicals too, and they will
leave residues and accumulate in your body over time.

The Secret Life of Dust

The first US study to test chemicals in household dust found a toxic cocktail in
our homes, made of hazardous chemicals emitted from commonly used products.

Chemicals bring new and functional products into our lives. They allow food to
stay fresh longer, carpets to be stain resistant, cookware to be non-stick, and
rain gear to repel water.

But the range of chemicals in our household products come with a hidden cost.
The dangers are outlined in a report released Tuesday, March 22, entitled, "Sick
of Dust: Chemicals in Common Products a Needless Health Threat in Our Homes."
The study, which analyzed dust samples in 70 homes across the country, reveals
widespread contamination. Every one of the composite samples contained all the
chemical classes we analyzed for: phthalates, pesticides, alkylphenols,
brominated flame retardants, organotins and perfluorinated chemicals. These
chemicals are linked to hormone disruption leading to reproductive and
developmental problems. They are also associated with allergies, cancer and
immune system damage.

How did these chemicals end up contaminating common household dust? For those
who live near a refinery or a chemical production facility, there is direct
exposure from emissions. The government's annual Toxic Release Inventory report
confirms this. For most others, exposure comes from the ingredients used to make
common household products. This information is disturbing, not least because
studies show we spend up to 90 percent of our time indoors; most of that at
home. Children may take in five times as much dust as adults, since they play
and crawl on the floor, making them more vulnerable while their organ and immune
systems are developing.

Brominated flame retardants, for example, commonly used on carpets, sofas and in
electronic consumer goods are toxic to developing nervous systems. They can
disrupt the thyroid which regulates growth and development in newborns. It has
long been known that small decreases in thyroid hormone levels can impair
learning abilities in children. Yet we now find these chemicals in dryer lint,
on the inside film of windows, and - as our study shows - in common household
dust.

The "Sick of Dust" report also found toxic plasticisers used to make vinyl soft,
stabilizers used in rigid PVC products, emulsifiers used in detergents and
cosmetics, and stain-resist chemicals used in Goretex and Teflon pans. All the
chemical classes we tested for are internationally recognized as Chemicals for
Priority Action, yet to date government regulators have passed no laws to phase
out their use.

Our federal chemicals regulation needs a complete overhaul. Our regulations
should promote the use of safe chemicals in products, not justify the ongoing
use of known carcinogens and reproductive toxins. The issue should not be
defined by what level these chemicals are safe to use. The question should be:
why take chances with our children's health when safer alternatives are readily
available?

Forward-thinking companies and retailers have not waited for government action.
They are restricting the list of chemicals their product suppliers can use and
are actively seeking sustainable materials and design ideas for their products.
Clean Production Action sent a questionnaire to 35 leading companies and
retailers to see if they have a chemicals policy or if they were even aware of
the types of chemicals in their product lines. We found furniture manufacturers
such as Herman Miller and Ikea had progressive policies to research and use safe
chemicals, and carpet manufacturer Shaw Carpets is working closely with green
chemists to design chemically-safe and recyclable carpets.

Likewise leading TV and computer brand names such as Dell and Samsung are
aggressively researching safer chemicals and replacements for all brominated
flame retardants and PVC uses. Aveda and Unilever are working to eliminate the
use of any materials known to persist in the environment or damage the hormone
system. Unfortunately, such chemicals policies are not standard practice in the
retail trade and most companies have no chemicals policy at all.

Faced with similar concerns, the European Union, home to the largest chemical
industry in the world, is overhauling its chemicals regulation. Europe will soon
make its chemical industry provide missing health data for all its chemicals in
commerce as well as require strict authorization for hazardous chemicals
production. Many believe this will help set Europe on a path to innovation in
safe chemicals. The U.S. needs to follow suit. In the absence of a federal
overhaul of chemicals policy some state governments are taking action to phase
out certain hazardous chemicals and pesticides. Although progress is slow and
faces ongoing opposition, these approaches are building momentum for national
reform.

We owe it to the next generation to get our chemicals management in order. Some
universities have set up Green Chemistry departments, which is a start, but it's
not the sole solution. The Bush administration needs to reverse the failure of
past chemicals regulation. It can begin by targeting the chemicals we now find
in our household dust.

I oppose the international standards projects (*) that are about to authorize
the trade and consumption of foodstuffs polluted by radioactive contaminants
such as plutonium 239, iodine 131, caesium 137 or strontium 90


Ingestion of these artificial radionuclides will result in increased cancer
risks and genetic diseases (not to mention others health effects, especially
heart troubles and damages to immune, digestive and respiratory systems)


If implemented, new international regulations will expose consumers, and
specially young ones, to unacceptable risk levels.


We are not to tolerate polluted food in normal situations. Consumption of food
contaminated by artificial radionuclides must not be accepted unless there is no
way out, for example in post-accidental or post-terrorism circumstances, and,
even then, only for a limited period.


I refuse the new regulations. I want pollutants-free food to remain the norm.
That the reason why I ask CRIIRAD to take all necessary steps at national and
international levels to prevent such a noxious food to enter my diet.

events in the Olympics."

The third surgeon said, "You guys are amateurs. Several years ago a cowboy who
was high on cocaine and alcohol rode a horse head-on into a train traveling 80
miles an hour. All I had left to work with was the horse's ass and a cowboy hat.
Now he's president of the United States."

Background information:

SB 1, co-authored by State Senators Kevin Murray (Los Angeles) and John Campbell
(Orange County), and endorsed by Governor Schwarzenegger, combines incentives
and standards needed to achieve Governor Schwarzenegger's goal of building half
of all new homes with solar power and a million solar roofs by 2017.

Specifically, SB1 would:
* Require all builders of large single-family home developments to offer solar
power as an option for homebuyers. This would give homebuyers the opportunity to
save money by incorporating the solar system during construction.

* Provide homeowners and businesses a new, stable and secure rebate fund to
reduce the upfront cost of solar power systems over the next ten years.

* Mandate that solar rebates decline each year and phase out by 2017 to help
ensure a mature, self-sufficient solar market by 2015.

* Mandate that utilities buy back excess electricity generated by solar systems
up to 5% of peak demand, helping make the investment cost-effective for
homeowners and businesses.

* Encourage greater energy efficiency in new homes and provide additional
support for incorporating solar into affordable housing.

SB 1 was officially endorsed by Governor Schwarzenegger on February 28, 2005, a
day before Environment California Research & Policy Center held an economist
summit in Sacramento educating decision makers and opinion leaders on the
economic benefits of solar homes for California. The bill will have its first
hearing on April 19th in the Senate Energy Committee Chaired by Senator Martha
Escutia (Los Angeles).
