Sexy? Nasty? Private? Purely Functional? These are all ways the female breast has been described, and reasons given why breasts should be covered at all times in public. There are many of us, however, who disagree. Since the 1930s men have been permitted to be topfree in public, so why are women still forbidden it in 2008?
This group is to promote discussion between the various groups interested in topfreedom, including (but by no means limited to!) naturists, political activists, exhibitionists or those in opposition.
Please realize that topfreedom doesn't apply just to "ideal" body types, but to those of us who are older, saggier, bigger, disfigured, scarred, or victims of breast cancer, too. Breasts have been sexualized by society and the media, but they remain simply a body part - rather like ankles and knees! - that should not be a cause for either excessive pride or shame. They're really just *there*.
I mention exhibitionists specifically because, in today's societal and political climate, there's just no getting around the sensuality of discussing bared breasts. Sensuality may be self-directed (enjoying the feel of water, sun and wind on the skin) or other-directed (enjoying the appreciation of other people), but I think most of us would agree that the baring of *any* skin to the elements (on purpose!) is a highly sensual experience.
