There was a lot of evidence of electoral fraud in the Presidential elections four years ago. For example, many black people got turned away from polling stations on the false basis that they had criminal records (which of course should not prevent people from voting for the rest of their lives). There was also the "hanging chads" fiasco, where somebody's vote didn't count if the voting machine malfunctioned (with the Republicans preventing a manual recount).
Computers of one form or another were used to count all ballots this year, and many of the machines used were supplied by companies linked to the Republican Party, yet they did not allow Democrats to examine the software.
In the first message on this group (Was the US election rigged again?), I considered the possibility that a programmer rigged the elections. I later gathered from the internet several reports by other people of how electoral fraud may have taken place and posted them here.
The reason why this election was particularly important was that Kerry promised to tax the rich and close tax loopholes. This election was not simply a case of two big business parties competing with each other, because Kerry was more radical than his advisers. However, there are other radical Democrats, as shown by Bruce Springsteen’s great anti-war song “No Surrender” being played when Kerry went down the aisle at the convention.
This group can be used as a forum for discussing whether the election was rigged, but I (Steve Wallis, a socialist living in Britain) would like it to also be a forum for organising action to try to force a recount of ballots where possible, or perhaps even a new Presidential election without waiting another four years.
There is now an Alliance for Democracy in the USA.
