Bournemouth Square is really a bridge. Beneath it runs the Bourne Stream.
Miriam Troth collaborating with Diane Roberts were awarded a Bournemouth Arts Grant for Urbanflow; a free environmental arts event funded by Bournemouth Borough Council's Arts Development programme, with support from Arts Council of England.
We intended to make people aware of the existence of the Bourne Stream and its local historical significance ( in the naming of Bournemouth).
This part of the Urbanflow project was called Infiltrate and involved exploring the Bourne Stream from the water tower to Bournemouth Square; promoting its potential for creativity. Infiltrate refers to the stream flowing through the centre of the town.
Our plan was to plot the route by various creative means; sketches, colour studies, painting, printmaking, photographing, collaging, rubbings, documenting, collecting etc. using watery terminology as a starting point for stimulating creativity
We saw the experience of the process being the essential outcome but in addition we were interested in displaying the documentation of the project from the early stages and exhibiting the work resulting from the project. This could be all the above and textiles, video, sound etc..
We have so far had a positive response to the project from ,
The Study Gallery of Modern Art in Poole; The Community Arts Co-ordinator at Bournemouth University; The project officer at Bourne Stream Partnership; The Community Parks and Countryside Officer and local historians.
