Travel Advisory for Hsin Chu, Taiwan
A travel advisory has been issued for Hsin Chu, Taiwan
following an armed attack on numerous foreign
residents and tourist including American, Australian
and South African nationals. Neither the local police
nor the central government of the Republic of China on
Taiwan have acknowledged an attack on May 23, 2004
that left a South African couple hospitalized in
serious condition from multiple lacerations and stab
wounds.
These attacks on non-Chinese were initiated by unknown
criminal elements operating unhampered in Hsin Chu,
Taiwan in the days preceding the second largest
international computer trade show (Computex) in Hsin
Chu, Taiwan the following week.
All foreign nationals are strongly recommended to
avoid travel or stays of long duration in Hsin Chu,
Taiwan.
This advisory has been issued by the defacto Foreign
Teachers Union on Taiwan, SSETT.
