Description

Unschooling Talk is a place to talk about anything related to unschooling beyond the bounds of a teacher-apprentice dynamic. There is no standard of purity to uphold here, and those still dipping a toe in are very welcome. Questions from people new to unschooling make for great conversation.

I'm Julie, the list owner. I set up this room as a place where all who contribute can be considered learners, where we are as respectful with our fellow learners as we are with our kids. A few general observations about interaction with kids that can apply to great online conversations amongst adults:

- I don't offer instruction unless it's clear that it's welcome.

- While I share my perspective, I don't assume that I'm right or I know or I must impose my way.

- I share observations, experiences, and ideas. I don't tend to tell others what they should do or who they are or project exaggerated negative outcomes if they fail to comply with my suggestions.

Lest the observations above be mistaken for rules, there's almost always a great moment to break a rule.

This is not a learn how to do unschooling place, but it is a generally low-key place where people may get what they're looking for by soaking in it, sharing, and asking questions. It's a place to be delightfully imperfect and always changing. Meta-discussion (discussion about the nature of the discussion itself) is sometimes useful, so it's not banned.

"You could say that answers are just a temporary side effect of having questions."
